Locally made gifts abound in the Berkshires. Here are we recommend

The holidays come earlier and earlier each year! I always seem to be caught off guard, realizing that Christmas and Hanukkah are right around the corner. If you’re like me, then hopefully this guide to our current favorite 10 Berkshire products should be a help. Finding that perfect gift for someone can also supports a local business or maker. That makes it two gifts in one! This list is certainly not exhaustive and there are so many other wonderfully locally made products, but here are the 10 gifts we’re obsessed with this year!

TRUFFLES BY TARAH

I know there is no need for an excuse to eat decadent chocolates — but let’s face it, the holidays are the best excuse ever. We’re so lucky to have a chocolatier like Tarah Warner in the Berkshires. She uses local products wherever possible and makes her yummy truffles truly a “taste of the Berkshires in every bite”. And something extra special is happening this holiday as she has a pop-up shop open on North Street in Pittsfield. Check out her advent calendars which are an extra special treat!

AUTUMN PHOENIX PHOTOGRAPHY

Giving a one-of-a-kind gift can be difficult to achieve! We’re currently obsessed with the idea of gifting a photo shoot to your friends and family. Imagine the joy someone will receive from knowing that they can document their most important people, experiences or objects. Autumn Phoenix Photography in Pittsfield is certainly one of the best to chat with about the gift of photography. You can check out the work online and around the county in exhibits. We’ll bet she will be able to put together the perfect gift package for you. And, as a bonus, she sells many prints in all different types of formats!

KLARA’S

COOKIES

This might be called the holiday or the winter season — but you know what it really is — cookie season! Whether entertaining yourself, going to someone’s home, or wanting to give the perfect thing to your special someone with a sweet tooth, we can highly recommend Klara’s cookies made right here in the Berkshires! There are several varieties and for the holiday season we’re obsessed with Ginger shortbreads! Oh, and for your gluten-free friends and family check out the over-the-top good coconut macaroons! Those who live in the Berkshires know Klara’s are to be found all over, and even if just as a stocking stuffer or a mini add-on gift, we can’t suggest grabbing some for those on your list.

BERKSHIRE RESIN ART

Are you the type of person that feels uncomfortable at the idea of attending a gathering at someone’s home without bringing a gift? And a unique one at that? To me it’s the thing of bad dreams to end up arriving at a friend’s house with nothing to show my appreciation. If you’re in the market for something your friends and family certainly don’t have then Berkshire Resin Art will become your new favorite place to shop. They use all kinds of local items and turn them into all kinds of things, each one a piece of art! And what’s even cooler is you can do a commission with someone’s favorite objects or flowers! They even turn wedding bouquets into works of art to cherish forever.

413 SHIRTS

Sometimes the best gifts are not only those that are beautiful, but also functional. Gone are the days of childhood when you’d unwrap your

gift and sigh as you saw clothing of any variety. I’ve found as the years pass, I have become more and more appreciative of a well thoughtout item of clothing that shows that someone really knows my style. We have been obsessed with the offerings of 413 T shirts which is in Pittsfield. Not only do they have a wide variety of colors, styles, and designs, but if you’re looking for something extra special like a matching family holiday shirt, they have you covered. Our current favorite is the Berkshire hoodie that is warm and perfect for braving the coming winter months.

SHIREFIRE CANDLES

It’s candle season — our favorite season of the year! We love nothing more than lighting a seasonal scented candle and enjoying the scents of the season! We love it even more if it is something locally made with a fun local name like “Clouds over Greylock”, “Christmas at the Colonial” or “Bash Bish Falls”. The owners of ShireFire candles in Pittsfield make beautiful glass cylinder and metal tin soy candles right here in the Berkshires. We find these to be a perfect gift to bring to others too and you’ll likely find one that speaks to them especially. And if not, then they can make something custom with a name all your own. How fun to give everyone you invite for the holiday feast their own candle to remember the celebration by?

TURNER FARM MAPLE SYRUP

One of my favorite parts of the holiday season is having friends and family who are staying with me to celebrate! No matter what your tradition may be, celebrating it with others is so much

more fun and meaningful. The one downside to having house guests is that you’ve got to figure out what to eat — often three meals a day. Well, if you’re a pancake or French toast fan (I mean who isn’t?) there is something special right here in the Berkshires — Turner Farm Maple Syrup. This locally made liquid gold will make those mornings more special! You can find this amazing syrup in many local shops. Trust me, you’ll want to get the biggest size. It’s also a great gift to bring to friends and family.

ASIA LUNA SOAP

Sometimes the best gifts during the holidays are those we give ourselves! It may be just a moment of quiet sipping some local coffee or something that you can use around the house that makes you smile. Well, we have found something amazing that should fit the bill. Asia Luna soaps are locally made here in the community and are in beautiful packaging and their scents are divine. These will make just the perfect addition to your powder rooms over the holidays and year-round. And if you’re really looking for a special gift, we can highly recommend purchasing a set of many varieties to provide your friends and family with months of pleasure.

MAKE MY DAY DESIGNS

We are always so excited when we meet new makers in the Berkshires who do some pretty out of the box wonderful things. When we first were introduced to Make My Day Designs, it was their macramé plant holders that caught our eye. We’ve used these ourselves for house plants and gifted plenty to friends with plants included. Right now, we’re all about adding a poinsettia to it and making it the perfect holiday gift. But wait, there’s more — they are now making the most charming concrete creations that celebrate the holidays. One of our favorites are the trees that come in just about any color you can imagine. You’ll certainly find something you love or someone on your list will. Check them out online or at select holiday markets and local shops.

BERKSHIRE

WINE JELLY

I don’t know about you, but I find myself craving inviting people over for drinks and dinner a lot more this time of year. Maybe it’s the weather, maybe it’s the holidays, who knows, but it’s true. One of our go to local products to help us put on that special evening is Berkshire Wine Jelly! These Jellies come in just about every wine flavor you can imagine. They come in many different sizes and are not just for PB&J but work so well with cheeses, as marinades, and just that extra special flavor to help whatever you’re making pop. You can find these yummy jellies all around the county so grab one if you see one on your shopping journey.

Oskar Hallig is the proprietor of “The Shop” in South Egremont and searches for Berkshiremade products you’ll want to check out.
