MeEt our judges Alexi La Mer

Nola and Sabin SciacCa

Alexi La Mer is the Operations Manager of The Whetstone Station Restaurant and Brewery.

Alexi’s love of music and knack for organizing has landed her a position as not just a restaurant manager, but the music and event manager as well. Alexi has worked in hospitality and tourism management around New England for over 20 years.

Having worked as everything from a barista and baker to head of photography at Mystic Aquarium, her experience is as diverse as her hair color. Alexi is an avid fitness enthusiast and is always finding new ways to stay active, be it at the gym training for the next Tough Mudder, out hiking, snowboarding or flat water kayaking. She’s seen a lot of this little corner of the country and has plenty of stories to tell, usually starting with “in Rhode Island…”

Nola Sciacca is in the sixth grade. She loves horses and competes almost every weekend during the summer.

Basketball, field hockey, and skiing are a few of her favorite sports. Nola has been the voice of Brattleboro Subaru (her dad’s business) for the past five years, doing most of their radio ads. She hopes to become a veterinarian some day.

Sarah Clark

Josh Unruh

Sarah Clark is the new Assistant Director of the Brattleboro Recreation and Parks Department and Activities Coordinator for the Brattleboro Senior Center.

She attended Brattleboro Union High School and went on to get a degree in Sports Administration and a minor in Communications from Castleton State College (now University). While at Castleton State College, she played lacrosse and was involved in many other programs and activities. After college, she was the Program Coordinator for the Brattleboro Recreation and Parks Department for three years.

She look forwards to meeting and working with you all over the years to come!

Josh Unruh is the Advertising Sales Manager at the Brattleboro Reformer and has worked for New England Newspapers in different capacities over the last 16 years. Josh serves on multiple boards and committees in his hometown of Vernon, including Chair of the Vernon Selectboard, President of the Vernon Recreation Dept, Vernon Assistant Emergency Management Director and the President of the Vernon War Memorial committee.

Josh is also a member of the Brattleboro Sunrise Rotary.

Sabin Sciacca is in the third grade. He loves anything with a motor: four-wheelers, snowmobiles and even lawnmowers! Basketball and baseball are his favorite sports.

He loves attending Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots games. He hopes to play in the NBA some day, but if that doesn’t happen his second choice is to be a farmer while running Brattleboro Subaru in his spare time.

Andrew Adams

Keene, N.H. ________________________________________________________________________ Andrew Adams has been involved in bagpipe bands since 1995. He fell into it naturally, since his father plays bagpipes, and his brother played snare drum. He teaches drums for a living, and is hired by bands throughout the Northeast and Canada for workshops and seminars.

He has competed at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, six times, and is looking forward to competing again this coming August.

In his spare time, he is actively involved in karate, and holds a third degree black belt.

Logan Boyd Wilmington, Vt. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Logan Boyd is currently a junior at Twin Valley High School. He works at his family’s farm, The Boyd Family Farm, and at Cask & Kiln Restaurant in Wilmington, Vt. He is the varsity goalie for the Twin Valley Soccer team. He plays on an indoor soccer team, is on the school snow board team and is an avid hunter – he enjoys any time spent outdoors. Logan has been in many of the Wings Theater Productions and has performed in several of the Food Panty Musical Nights, raising money for the Food Pantry. He participated in the “The Brattleboro Youth Rock Festival” this summer, attending a song writing workshop while there, and played a night at the Retreat Food Truck Rodeo. He enjoys performing in cabarets at school and writes many of his own original songs.

Music has always been a part of his life: he started with piano lessons when he was seven, and taught himself how to play guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele and the banjoline. He routinely plays with family and friends. He enjoys any musical opportunities and looks forward to participating in Windham County’s Got Talent.

Julie Cermola Bellows Falls, Vt. ________________________________________________________________________

Julie Cermola lives in Bellows Falls, Vt. She has always loved singing and has been doing it since she was a little girl. In high school, she participated in chorus and was a lead in the musical “Guys and Dolls.” Julie also sings the National Anthem every year for Pee Wee Football at the BFUHS football field. When Julie is not singing, she loves to be around animals. She can usually be seen with her dog, Murphy.

Alison CornelLier

Brattleboro, Vt. ________________________________________________________________________ Alison has been twirling for 22 years and competing for 19. She is a member of the Brattleboro Area Baton Twirlers, where she is also an instructor and a choreographer. Alison has won numerous awards for both individual and team events in baton. At Nationals, which take place at Notre Dame University, she placed first in her solo 2-baton event in 2016 and 2018, and first in her solo flag event in 2017. Her team also took third place at Nationals in 2014. Twirling has brought many performance opportunities for Alison and her team such as twirling at Boston Celtics games, Disney World, the Capital One Bowl, the Miss America Parade in Atlantic City, Hershey Park, and Washington D.C. When not twirling, Alison works as a kindergarten paraprofessional at an elementary school in town. One day, she hopes to open her own baton twirling studio to combine her love of twirling with her love of working with children.

Crazefaze Dance Crew

Northfield, Mass. ________________________________________________ Rebecca Bustillos, Director and Choreographer of Crazefaze Dance Crew, was born and raised in Brattleboro Vt. Crazefaze is an all-female hip hop dance crew from Western Mass created in 2007. These talented dancers build on hard work, respect, persistence and team work. The members of Crazefaze work together to pursue their passion through performance and choreography.

Jason Dansby

Manchester Center, Vt. ________________________________________________________________________ Jason Dansby grew up in Asheville, N.C. He has been listening to music for as long as he can remember. He grew up listening to Motown while his mother cleaned, intrigued by what was put into the music on the production side. Since age 14, he has been perfecting his craft while telling his story to the masses. He performs throughout Vt., bringing a more educated and grown-up hip hop to the Green Mountain State.

Carly GalLivan

West Dover, Vt. ________________________________________________________________________ Carly has been dancing since she was two years old, and she began competing in dance competitions with Kelly’s Dance Academy in Brattleboro, Vt. at the age of six. Carly spends over eight hours a week dancing. She competes in eight different styles of dance including, tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, contemporary, open, lyrical and acro. Carly excels in all styles but her specialty is acro because of her gymnastics background. Along with dance, Carly also competes in gymnastics, and has since she was six years old. Carly’s acrobatic dance is a combination of dance and gymnastics.

Over the past nine years, Carly has won two national solo titles and several national titles for group and duet performances. She has also won several different judge’s awards at competitions and scholarships to dance in summer programs around the country.

Carly loves what she does and hopes to continue to accomplish her goals to become a professional dancer one day.

Ben Kaufman

Brattleboro, Vt. ________________________________________________________________________ Ben Kaufman is a circus performer from Brattleboro, Vt. He started attending the New England Center for Circus Arts as a child, and the rest is history. Ben is a handbalancer, hula hooper, and acrobat. He has performed with companies such as Circus Smirkus, Nimble Arts, CirqueUs, Circus Culture, and Wunderle’s Big Top Adventures. Ben attends Ithaca College and majors in Theater Production and Design, with a concentration in scenic and costume design. He hopes to pursue circus professionally after college and enjoys performing while he’s in school.

ROWE, MASS. ________________________________________________________________________ Abby discovered circus was a life option at the bright young age of 26. Soon thereafter, she completed a year-long performance training program at NECCA. Having grown up in western Mass., many a Saturday was spent eating popcorn at Sam’s and browsing books at the Elliot St. used book store; she spends so much time in Brattlboro, she practically lives here.

When not wheeling, you can find Abby making granola at True North, practicing her drawing and painting skills, binge watching “Being Human” while knitting or crocheting and drinking tea... or flying through the air on the flying trapeze at NECCA.

DarRelL MilLer

Brattleboro, Vt. _____________________________________________________________________________ At eleven years old, Darrell Miller and his best friend/brother started writing and recording songs. He participated in the Young Americans Program, putting on a show. He also trained in jazz with the Jazz Center in Brattleboro. He has been traveling and performing his own songs for about three years now, winning twice at the Hip Hop Seazon Showcase at VIBE Lounge in N.Y. He has two singles already released, and continues to strive and reach for the stars.

Ben PratT

STODDARD, N.H. ________________________________________________________________________ Ben Pratt is a part-time bus driver for children with special needs. He spent his childhood in Stoddard, N.H. He has been performing magic for over 25 years. He first saw David Copperfield on TV when he was five and has loved it ever since. He won third place in New England’s Got Talent and took first place in the Greater New England Magic Contest twice. He hopes to eventually become a full-time magician. He also loves playing board games and retro arcade games, and is basically an all-around dork.

James Warren is a local performer in Brattleboro, appearing at farmers markets, cafes and more.

He has been playing music since the 60s, and over time has developed his unique one-manband style incorporating the keyboard, guitar, vocal and harmonica with an actual acoustic drum set. The music is a diverse blend of rhythm and blues, rock and roll, blues and traditional tunes.

He and his wife Lori moved to this area fifteen years ago and started Fertile Fields Farm. They were part of the Brattleboro Farmers Market for much of that time, as well having their own CSA, but now the farming is slowing down and the music is growing and developing.
