Please see the campaign resources at Join1MillionMen.org, including a book for men, book for wives and families, commitment for men, church DVD with guide, and more. Viewing pornography is a temptation for most Christian men. And yielding to this temptation always ends in loss. The battle to overcome pornography is brutal — but winnable in Christ because the power of our resurrected Savior lives within every believer. We can be overcomers. Whether tempted to look at pornography once, frequently struggling, or addicted to pornography — men can experience freedom. Breaking free is a painful process, but the rewards of freedom, peace, and joy are far greater than the momentary rush of pornography. Guilt-free is the greatest feeling you and I can experience! There is nothing easy about overcoming a struggle with pornography. These 26 principles require a passionate, daily commitment on your part. With God’s power, and others’ help, you can live pornography free. The porn struggle is not something you can battle once and never have to battle again. Does the struggle get easier? I believe if you continue to
act on these principles, you will get stronger in your resolve to say no to viewing pornography. However, you can never let down your guard. Chains are just a click or look away. This guide is not meant to replace therapy, workshops, or conferences that address issues of pornography or sexual addiction issues. Those who are sexually addicted need intense therapy such as Faithful and True Ministries with Mark Laaser or L.I.F.E. Ministries International workshops (there are others) and/or a commitment to Christ-centered therapy. This booklet is, however, a powerful tool — a gateway to help you begin your journey of sexual integrity. These principles are a compilation of multiple resources and studies over a period of many years. You will notice that each principle is based on Scripture. God’s Word is our final authority.
Our Plan — Let’s Get Started We invite you right now to begin putting these principles to work in your life. You can share these with other men who are struggling with viewing pornography; find a few who will be able to go through this plan with you. You will find strength and encouragement when you are in the trenches with other men and holding each other accountable. Your freedom depends entirely upon how passionate you are about radical purity. Find out more about how we are winning in the war against pornography at Join1MillionMen.org.
You’ll find multiple additional resources proven effective in practice by others just like you
DMIT porn is a struggle for you. Scripture Truth “He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion” (Proverbs 28:13). Admit, “Yes, porn is a struggle for me,” if it is a struggle. Rather than justifying or excusing pornography, simply admit your struggle to God, to yourself, and to caring people. There is great freedom in transparent acknowledgment. A secret possesses power — and Satan knows this. Shining the light of God’s truth on anything sinful and hidden gives you the opportunity to break free. Once exposed, the chains of pornography begin to fall away and lose their power. The first of the 12 steps of Sexaholics Anonymous gives a good reminder for you as you begin to pray:
“We admitted that we were powerless over lust — that our lives had become unmanageable.” “You can never conquer sin with an excuse.” — AUTHOR UNKNOWN
A
Dear God, I admit to You that porn is a struggle for me. I ask for strength as I share my struggle with others. Thank You for Your grace. Amen.
REAKING FREE is one of the hardest battles, but you must believe it is winnable. Scripture Truth
B
“For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:4–5). Battling pornography involves spiritual warfare. The flesh, your sinful nature, is going to fight back. Your mind is going to threaten you, suggesting you can’t survive without looking at pornography. Satan is going to tempt you — and bring tempting opportunities as never before. The truth: you can break free! You can experience God’s overcoming and healing power. “There is always a choice when it comes to breaking free from addictive behaviors,” says Dr. Randy Hyde. God is greater than your stronghold! Dear God, I commit to do whatever is necessary to break free. This struggle seems bigger than me, but it is not bigger than You and Your strength in me.
OME CLEAN with God. Confess viewing pornography as sin. Scripture Truth “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). “Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you’re willing to pay,” says Steve Farrar. Applied to pornography — radical repentance is essential. Repentance breaks the cycle of sin. Repentance involves brokenness and is a moment when God, the Holy Spirit, convicts you to change the direction you are going. You recognize your sin as being destructive in your life and contrary to God’s will. You experience an overwhelming sense of sorrow for what you have done. You vow in God’s power to no longer do that which God has revealed as sin in your life. Where there is no change there has been no repentance.
“I do not know when I am more perfectly happy than when I am weeping for sin at the foot of the cross. When we deal seriously with our sins, God — C. H. SPURGEON will deal gently with us.” Dear God, by an act of my will I turn away from my sin of viewing pornography and I turn to You asking You to forgive me.
