The Sanderson Sisters are flying in from Salem for some hocus pocus and to gather children for an interactive movie night with magical props. Ages 6–12 Saturday, September 4 10–11 am Meet Up Outside by the Café Join us for a morning of fishing fun! Fishing poles and bait are supplied. An adult must be present and will need a fishing license if they are planning to assist their children (16 and under do not need a fishing license). There will be library staff to assist. Ahoy thar mateys! Come visit us to see some scurvy pirates and even join in by dressing up yourself! Walk the plank, make some aaart, and enjoy other pirate-y shenanigans. No registration is required, but pirate booty is limited and available while supplies last.

What Does Test Optional Really Mean?

COVID-19 brought the cancelation of standardized tests in Spring 2020. Many colleges joined the growing list of universities to announce a test-optional admission process. Some colleges have announced an extension of this policy for Fall 2021, while others made this a permanent change. Thomas Jaworski of Quest College Consulting will help families gain insight on what it means for a college to review an application without standardized test scores, while also identifying the pros and cons of submitting these exams. This program will be presented both in person and through Zoom. For those attending through Zoom, a Zoom link will be sent the week of the program. Registration required.

Challenge yourself with 3D printing projects! Watch our Challenge video, log into TinkerCAD, and create your Challenge design. Submit your 3D design for a free print from the Library in the color of your choice! There will be a new challenge every month, so be on the lookout. October’s challenge is a jack-o-lantern. A TinkerCAD account is required; only an email is needed to create an account. Registration required; recommended by the first of the month for that month’s Challenge. New Lenox Library is partnering with the Workforce Services Division of Will County to bring you the Mobile Workforce Center! The Mobile Workforce Center offers a variety of services for job seekers, including computers with internet access for online applications and job searches, the ability to create/revise a resume, and an online job board with listings from Will County businesses. A Certified Professional Resume Writer and Certified Professional Career Coach will be available to assist you with any job seeking questions you may have. The bus will be located in our parking lot behind the Library. Resources available on a first come, first served basis. Mask requirements on the bus will be determined by Workforce Services staff.

The Illinois Digital Archives (IDA) was created in 2000, as a repository for the digital collections of the Illinois State Library as well as other libraries and cultural institutions in the State of Illinois. The Great Lakes Regional Archives in Chicago has a wealth of information for family history researchers of all levels. Resources, both onsite and online, can provide new avenues to further your family tree. Onsite record collections include 100s of 20th-century city directories not found online, naturalizations, court papers, maritime records, and Native American genealogical resources. The National Archives online offer millions of digitized records including photographs, maps, letters, and much more. Discover what the National Archives has to offer a family historian!

Tina Beaird is a genealogy & local history librarian, with a Masters of Library and Information Science degree with a specialization in Archives/Preservation. Tina lectures nationally on topics including genealogical methodology, military records, Scottish research and photo and archival preservation. She has assisted researchers for over 15 years, and occasionally still finds time to conduct her own family research, which she has been pursuing for over twenty-five years. Tina is the First Vice-President of the Illinois State Genealogical Society, a board director for the Northern Illinois Historic League, the Illinois State Historic Records Advisory Board and the Oswegoland Heritage Association, as well as the Museum Operations Chair of the Plainfield Historical Society.

Saturday, September 25 from 9 am–2 pm Vendor/garage sale applications due Sept. 10 The Friends of the New Lenox Library are holding their Annual Rummage Sale on Saturday, September 25, 2021, 9–2 pm on the circle drive in the New Lenox Commons.
Seller parking spaces are $20 each, non-refundable. You may register for more than one parking space. Bring your own tables, chairs and canopy, as they will not be provided. Proceeds from the sale of the parking spaces will be used to help benefit the Library and support their programs offered to the community.
Food, beverages and snack items will be on sale throughout the day at the Teardrop in the Library café, and through a designated food vendor.
