Member Benefits Announcing: Four New Programs to Help Your Business Thrive

PeerGroups Offer Collaborative Approach for Businesses

The Chamber is focused on providing members with programs and services that help your business grow and succeed. With this in mind, there are four new programs now available to Chamber members.

This past January, our PeerGroups launched at the Chamber. Meeting once a month, the PeerGroups bring together a selection of businesses to form an ongoing advisory group for networking, professional development and a collaborative approach in which all can thrive.

Check our website at newmarketchamber.ca/ AffinityPrograms for all the details on these great programs. Merchant Services A new exclusive payments processing program available only to Chamber members. Take advantage of preferred rates for a variety of services, including, a low 1.55% on Visa transactions provided by First Data, a preferred partner of Chambers from across Canada. The Newmarket Chamber just switched and Starting January 2014: will save $800 in its first year. Human Resources For just pennies per employee per day, you will now have access to full scale Human Resource services and expertise including recruiting, pre-screening, reference checks, legal consultation, employee file management and templates provided by First Call. Home & Auto Insurance Exceptional home and auto insurance coverage for members and their employees through a group home & auto plan offered by Johnson Inc., a national provider of insurance and benefits for many Chambers across Canada. Export Market Access: A component of the Global Growth Fund Think your company is too small to be an exporter? Well, think again. Export Market Access: A Global Expansion Program (EMA) is designed to assist small to medium size organizations (SMEs) to access and expand their growth in foreign markets. If your company has 5 or more employees and annual sales of $500,000 or more, you may qualify for a contribution covering up to 50% of eligible costs incurred to develop export sales.

As different business have different needs, we launched two PeerGroups – one for small businesses from 1 to 5 employees (SOHO & Small Business PeerGroup) and another for businesses in the 6 – 25 employee range (SME PeerGroup). These groups are currently up and running at the Chamber and we are opening up a second SOHO & Small Business PeerGroup to accommodate additional member businesses. We could not deliver this benefit to members without our dedicated NewmarketChamber.ca/thrive members who have provided their time and insights to the PeerGroups. In addition to the monthly opportunity to discuss business practices, the groups have also experienced presentations on a variety of topics including: Digital Media, Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation, Business Planning, Succession Planning, Social Responsibility, Leadership Skills, Small Business Resources, Employee Engagement and more.

PeerGroups

We would like to thank our group facilitators: Victor Woodhouse, Woodhouse Executive Insurance (Facilitator: SOHO & Small Business PeerGroup) and John Crowell, Magna International Inc. Innovation Updates A Gigabit Corridor in Newmarket? Have you heard about the Google Gigabit Communities in the U.S.? Kansas City, Utah and Austin are cities that now have broad access to ultrafast Internet connections for residents and businesses. The availability of that key infrastructure has driven economic development, investment and job creation for those cities. In an indication of the success of those pilots, Google recently announced 37 more Gigabit communities in the States. We are working hard to advance a Gigabit community vision for Newmarket and York Region. The recently completed Broadband Feasibility study for York Region envisions 10 gigabit connectivity speeds along major centres and corridors of the Region along with competitive access speeds in rural areas over the next 10 years. As a foundation, the Report is a good start to moving forward. We asked: could we get there faster if we tried it on a smaller, more focused scale? Promotional Opportunity – Host the Google E-Town Award at Your Business Last November, the Town of Newmarket and the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce accepted the prestigious Google E-Town Award on behalf of our residents and businesses, as one of the leading communities in Canada using online technologies. Recognizing that this award is a result of many individuals adopting technologies and driving innovation in their businesses, we are inviting members to host the Google E-Town Award in their own offices. As a way to promote your business, build employee morale and recruit new talent, hosting the Award involves registering with the Chamber to schedule your hosting date, committing to taking a picture of your staff with the award and a banner profiling the award, and posting the picture on your organization’s social media channels. The Chamber staff will “Like”, Re-Tweet and share the picture with its network of member business. If you are interested in hosting the award, please contact lauren@newmarketchamber.ca

Centred on Southlake Regional Health Centre and the Davis Drive area, the proposed Gigabit corridor would provide an enabling platform to accelerate research, innovation and entrepreneurship in digital media, life sciences and mobile health you in partnership by: applications. Based Brought on the to information gathered, a report is being prepared on the concept and will be available later this summer. This is a visionary and critical step in setting the future of our community, and we look forward to engaging our members in this discussion.
