NYPG Speed Mentoring Join us for the Annual NYPG (Young Professionals) Speed Mentoring Event Wednesday, October 1

Whenever I am asked what is the missing link between a promising businessperson and a successful one, mentoring comes to mind. - Sir Richard Branson One night, 50 business leaders, 50 Young Professionals & Entrepreneurs…. countless connections, valuable advice, useful resources, renewed commitment and motivation, ongoing relationships… one night to help make a difference in the professionals and businesses that shape our community.

See What a Lasting Impact One Evening Can Make

In The Words of 2013 Participants:

How inspiring - having the opportunity to speak with people who are in positions that you aspire to be in, was invaluable. For someone who is very new in the working world, learning from individuals who have been in the business and know what they are talking about is a great opportunity! It’s not every day that you can sit down with 8-10 mentors who are so knowledgeable and are willing to share with you their experiences and opinions.

Are you under the age of 40? Do you have staff that are under 40 and could benefit from an evening of networking, business advice and professional growth? Join the Newmarket Young Professionals Group for the 2014 Speed Mentoring Event. I appreciate the opportunity to seek advice on how to unlock the chains l am facing towards my business’ development, with individuals that have dedicated their expertise and time - not forgetting their love and endurance for others like me to create beneficial and successful businesses. I truly felt like l had found gold and my confidence has been renewed to the fullest.

Innovation Updates Innovative Pilot Project in Newmarket You Can Help! The Chamber of Commerce, a partner in a collaborative community innovation team, is helping Newmarket Hydro, the Town, Southlake Regional Health Centre, IBM Canada and Zerofootprint, to conduct a ground-breaking pilot project using real time data to achieve energy cost savings. The pilot project with 500 homes in Newmarket uses smart meters, an online app and data aggregation to promote energy conservation. The Zerofootprint platform has gamified the conservation process, allowing users to earn “GOODcoins” for achieving real, targeted savings that can be measured and verified based on the smart devices and data streaming. GOODcoins can be converted into donations to Southlake Regional Health Centre.

How You Can Help Anyone interested in participating in the pilot project should contact Newmarket Hydro to determine if their current thermostat is compatible with the software needed; if it is not, Newmarket Hydro will replace the thermostat with a peaksaver PLUS thermostat at no cost to the homeowner. Through your wireless router connecting your home area network to the Internet, the WiFi enabled peaksaver PLUS smart thermostat reports your home’s electricity usage to your own personal GOODcoins webpage. The conservation savings are measured against energy reduction goals. The more successful you are at reducing your home’s electricity use, the more GOODcoins rewards are assigned. Find out all the details online at: nmhydro.ca/peaksaver.asp This is a great example of community innovation, and we encourage everyone to get involved with this initiative!

The Zerofootprint platform is an innovative community engagement application that supports other kinds of behaviour/culture changes – such as smart commuting, health and wellness, and water conservation. The program is one of the first of it’s kind in Canada, with a potential to combine energy and water conservation when smart water meters are implemented. The pilot project runs for the summer, and then based on the results of the pilot may be rolled out to the entire community, residents and businesses.
