Aurora family grateful to be home after ordeal BY CHRIS SIMON
csimon@yrmg.com
The Clements family, stranded during a weeklong deep freeze in New York, are back home in Aurora. After three potential flights from New York City were cancelled and they decided to trek in a rental car, only to be snowed in at an Adams, New York, fire hall shelter, Janice Clements, husband Wayne, sons Sam, 16, and Jack, 14, returned Wednesday night. The foursome drove out of the small town at 1 p.m. and arrived seven hours later, Ms Clements said. “It was a bit of a Gong Show,” she said of the indirect route, which included dropping off their rental at Pearson International Airport and picking up their family vehicle. “We also dropped into my in-laws and got booster cables in case our truck didn’t start,” she said. “Still, safe and sound is what really matters.” The family remains overwhelmed by the hospitality extended by volunteer firefighters, the women’s auxiliary and citizens who opened their homes to stranded travelers in Adams. “Oh my gosh, yes,” Ms Clements said. “I’m going to write the mayor, who was one of the volunteers, and thank them.” Before departing Adams, the family made a donation to the auxiliary. “I’m not sure where the funds came from to help everyone,” she said. “We hope we helped them recoup some of the money.”

If your resolution for 2014 is to kick-start your business or invest in an enterprise, there is a rather celestial group that could help give wings to your goals. York Angel Investors Inc., a nonprofit entity, links entrepreneurs with investors, president Scott MacCannell said. In addition to funding, if a deal is struck, the 50 investor members offer mentoring, coaching, networking and a range of management expertise. Even if your business plan does not make the cut, the experience can be invaluable, he said. York Angels are similar to TV’s Dragon’s Den, where guests pitch business ideas in the hope one of the well-heeled hosts will invest, membership committee chairperson Christopher Cowan said. “But without the drama,” he said with a chuckle. “And we’re a whole lot friendlier,” Mr. MacCannell chimed in, adding several of the entrepreneurs who have appeared on the show have made overtures to his Angels. The group prefers to look at companies with main offices or bases of operations within 500 kilometres of York Region. Approaching the organization is relatively simple if you have done your homework. Entrepreneurs should have a well-developed business plan, including a realistic financial plan, and be able to articulate cash requirements through to profitability, Mr. MacCannell said. The plan should articulate the scope of the company’s competition and its own sustainable competitive advantage. Proprietary technologies, where applicable, should be protected and the entrepreneur must have a commitment to continuing this pursuit. “We look for entrepreneurs who are all in and vested in their business,” Mr. Cowan said. “They have to have their skin in the game,” Mr. MacCannell added.

York Angel Investments Inc. is looking for a few good business plans. York Angel’s memebership chairperson Christopher Cowan (left) and president Scott MacCannell can help get your business idea off the ground.
“In other words, their blood, sweat and tears have to be in the business. They have to be sincere and serious.” The Angels receive about 300 applications annually. One-third are pre-screened further and between 30 and 35 are invited to make formal presentations to investors. Often, if an applicant’s proposal has merit, but is not quite perfect, investors will work with them to enhance the pitch and make recommendations. Each stage of the process, from submission of a plan, attending a screening meeting to the big interview, has a nominal fee to defray costs, Mr. MacCannell said.
The “ask” from entrepreneurs varies. Requests for $250,000 in capital are not uncommon, Mr. MacCannell said, noting most are looking in the $500,000 to $750,000 range, but it has been as high as $10 million. Investors, human or institutional, looking to join the Angels have to be accredited, Mr. Cowan said. A qualified investor must be an individual with a net worth of $1 million, a bank, insurance company, registered investment company, business development company or small business investment company. An investor can also be a charitable organization, corporation or partnership with assets exceeding

$5 million or a director, executive officer or general partner of the company selling the securities. It can also be a trust with assets of at least $5 million. Investors are offered formal education courses and can finance a deal alone or as a group. While the Angels’ base of operations in southern York Region is non-profit, investors are seeking a healthy return on investment, he said. With strict guidelines and exit strategies in place with each deal, investors do well, Mr. Cowan said, adding there are few failures and the occasional home run. Investment contracts are confidential, however, by way of exam-
ple, the men cited two recent success stories. A team of Angel investors bought into Toronto-based Top Hat, a software company that transforms students’ mobile devices into powerful classroom engagement tools. In nine months, investors realized a 250-per-cent return. Ditto for capital venture investors in Q-Next, a Concord file sharing application developer. The business and social networking afforded to investment members and entrepreneurs is a win-win, they said. “A lot of doors can be opened by the Angels,” Mr. MacCannell said. “They have the know-how and the know who.”

Regional council representation Red-light traffic cameras kicked off in late 2013 to remain same for 2014 vote BY SEAN PEARCE
In any case, the region originally planned to have the cameras up and running by early summer, but installation of the hardware and finalizing the necessary agreements pushed the target date to late August/early September. In September, the region began testing its equipment and working to conclude the final administrative steps. The cameras went live in late October. The gross operating revenue for the program over the next two years is anticipated to be $3.7 million, while the region expects it will take in about $4.5 million in fines during the same period. This past summer, integrated intelligent transportation systems project manager Gregg Loane explained he expects there will be fewer tickets issued than anticipated due to the delayed start, but he doubted the impact will be significant. Registered owners of vehicles that fail to stop for a red light at the camera-equipped intersections can expect to have infraction notices under the Highway Traffic Act delivered through the mail.

It appears York Region council will have the same number of seats and methods for selecting who fills them at the end of 2014 as it does now, though there were a few attempts to change that last year. First, in February, Liberal Oak Ridges-Markham MPP Dr. Helena Jaczek introduced a private member’s bill intended to make the job of regional chairperson an elected rather than appointed position. The bill was, more or less, a resurrection of the legislation tabled by Dr. Jaczek’s Liberal colleague, Richmond Hill MPP Reza Moridi, which died because of the prorogation of provincial parliament in fall 2012 following the sudden resignation of then-premier Dalton McGuinty. This second incarnation of the bill, third if you count former Liberal MPP David Caplan’s push to make the chairpersons of all regions elected, passed second reading unanimously June 6 and
NEWSMAKERS was referred to the standing committee on the legislative assembly. The bill has been there ever since and has yet to be addressed. To have become law in time to impact the 2014 municipal election, the bill would have needed to receive third reading by Dec. 19. As that didn’t happen, the earliest you will have a chance to elect York’s chairperson is the 2018 election. A snap election or another prorogation would kill the bill and there’s no guarantee it will pass third reading if it comes to a vote. In any event, the only person to express an interest in succeeding current chairperson Bill Fisch so far is Stouffville Mayor Wayne Emmerson. Beyond the top job, 2013 also brought bids from several of the region’s municipalities to add at
least one more seat at the council table. Aurora, East Gwillimbury, King and Whitchurch-Stouffville all had their requests for an additional councillor shot down early, while Vaughan’s push to increase the size of its contingent from four to five was greenlit by a majority of regional council, but it wasn’t to be. Vaughan needed to secure support from a majority of the municipal councils representing at least 50 per cent of the region’s population. It wasn’t to be. The councils of Georgina, East Gwillimbury, King, WhitchurchStouffville and Aurora all rejected the City Above Toronto’s pursuit of a fifth regional councillor, while Newmarket and Richmond Hill’s councils rendered no decision on the subject. Not that it mattered by the time it came, but Markham council was in favour. As such, regional council will remain at 21 members, including the chairperson.
It took longer than anticipated, but 2013 saw York Region install red light enforcement cameras at 20 intersections. The region touted the new technology as a safety initiative, intended to reduce the frequency of T-bone collisions, but it left some critics seeing red. The United Statesbased National Motorists Association, for example, has decried the deployment of red light cameras everywhere arguing, instead, if policy-makers were serious about enhancing safety at intersections, they would increase the duration of amber lights. The association sees the technology as a cash grab and points to several cases where municipal and county administrations have tinkered with the signal-timing to boost revenue. Regional officials have stressed continuously the initiative is about improving safety and not making money. They have also assured no signal-timing chicanery will occur here.

SUNDAY FORUM
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Storms bring out best in us
Harsher punishment needed for impaired drivers
T
Re: Make a decision that drunk driving is unacceptable, Dec. 19. I could not agree more that drinking and driving can be stopped. My only concern remains our court system. Unless judges are willing to convict those charged by the police and issue stiff sentences — prosecution to the full extent of the law including a criminal record — the great work done by the police, groups, individuals and other agencies may be worthless. You must realize it is not only a driver’s licence that could be suspended, but that it could be lost permanently. Lengthy jail time when personal injury or death occurs must also be the norm. Let’s make those who think they can get away with drinking and driving pay in a very big way. Maybe this will add fuel to the fire.
he way our work schedule turned out, I was in the office Sunday as the ice storm began to take its toll with outages, downed trees, blocked roads. Photographer Sjoerd Witteveen had been on vacation, but headed out to take pictures for us anyway. His house had no power (mine didn’t either at that point) so he came to the office to download his storm pictures. I decided we could each use a coffee (Sjoerd asked for a french vanilla) so I walked up the street, only to find the coffee shop “closed due to power outage”. You know what it’s like once your mind has decided your body needs a coffee. I jumped in the car and drove north to the next coffee shop, which was open. In fact, an epic lineup was waiting at the drive-thru. I parked and went inside, only to find a similar lineup of humans. The staff behind the counter appeared busy, to say the least, even a bit flustered. As we waited, a woman in the line behind me blurted out, for many to hear, “This is ridiculous”. For some reason, I did something I normally would not. I turned to her and said, “Half the town has no power. People are just here trying to get something to eat. It’s busy.” Not the thing you’d say unless you are prepared to spend another 20 minutes in line standing a foot away from someone who has decided she hates your guts. But instead, to her credit, my fellow coffee lover changed her tune. “Oh, you’re right,” she said. It was just that they had been to four places looking for coffee and even more gas stations looking for wiper fluid, she explained. “You know what it’s like when you need a coffee,” she said. As we got closer to the counter, I noticed hand-written signs that read, “Sorry, cash only.” Aha! Even though there was power, the credit/debit machines were not working. Hence the flustered looks on staff’s faces. I pulled out my wallet and checked, to find I only had about
Bernie O’Neill $1.75 in change. “Do you have enough money?” the woman behind me asked. “Well, I have enough for me, but I guess my friend will have to do without,” I said, which didn’t sound very good once it came out. Do I offer to share my coffee with the intrepid photographer (even though he wanted french vanilla)? Do I drink my coffee in the car and tell him the coffee shop was closed? Do I rummage through the carseats looking for loose change or continue driving around town looking for a coffee shop where the debit machines are working? (It could be midnight before I got back!) The lady behind me extended her hand with $1.75 or so in it. “Here, get your friend a coffee,” she said. I argued that wasn’t necessary, but she insisted and in the end I accepted. I wished her a Merry Christmas, even though it occurred to me she might not be a Christmas celebrant herself. It didn’t seem to matter. It’s just a way of saying, all the best to you. They say a crisis can bring out the best and worst in people, but I personally think it’s the best that comes out from the vast majority of us, whether it be the people who opened their homes and helped their neighbours, and all those city officials, police, fire, EMS — don’t forget photographers — and the hydro workers especially, but even coffee shop employees, who earned their pay bigtime during the Christmas Ice Storm of 2013. Gets you kind of feeling all warm and fuzzy inside, yes, but still I’m glad it’s over.
DAVID BONE MAPLE
Too many agent flyers filling mailboxes I’ve taken the time to express what I
believe is a unanimous frustration with the ridiculous amount of real estate agent flyers I receive every day. It sure is disheartening to see the amount of paper going to waste — just look at the blue boxes in your neighbourhood. Yes, there are many businesses that use flyers to advertise and I do not see this stopping anytime soon, however what is disappointing is number of these that are real estate flyers. Over the past year alone, I estimate 80 per cent of the flyers I receive are from real estate agents. It is these flyers that stand out. My bet is fellow Newmarket citizens are nodding their head in agreement. To our valued real estate agents, to reach me, you already use referrals, electronic ads, newspaper ads, bus stops, mall kiosks, email, etc. All of those are less annoying, but, more importantly, much more environmentally friendly. In actual fact, I would rather not choose someone who infiltrates my mailbox every day. I’ve always used agents for buying/selling because it makes the most sense. I do value your role. If I need you, I know where to find you. This letter will be worthwhile if I hit home with even one agent who understands me.

Humanitarian’s new book retells Newmarket’s past BY JULIA LE
jle@yrmg.com
Wes Playter’s appreciation for local history has manifested into a collection of coffee table books about Newmarket’s past. Mr. Playter, 40, who was born and raised in Newmarket, began self-publishing the hardcover books four years ago, with proceeds benefiting charities in the community. Industrializations: A History of Newmarket’s Three Key Industries in the Late 19th/Early 20th Centuries, is the latest addition to the collection that includes Foundations: Heritage Landmarks of Downtown Newmarket, Congregations: History of Faith Communities in Newmarket and Connections: History of Transportation in Newmarket, Ontario. Mr. Playter, who studied history at the University of Toronto, but ended up taking over the family business at Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home, describes it as a snapshot of Newmarket’s history as it developed from a horse-andbuggy village into an industrial town within 40 to 50 years. The 26-page coffee table book focuses on the Office Specialty
Manufacturing Company, the William Cane & Sons Manufacturing Company (later Dixon Pencil) and the Davis Leather Company. “These manufacturers really put Newmarket on the map,” he said, noting how they are part of Newmarket’s historical fabric, still recognized today. A part of the office specialty building is home to York Regional Police, while Dixon Pencil was replaced by the Dixon Medical Centre. The Davis Leather Company is better known now as the Tannery Mall, he added. The book costs $40 and can be purchased at the funeral home on Main Street or by emailing Mr. Playter at wes@roadhouseandrose. com. Proceeds support the Bereaved Families of York Region. Mr. Playter, a past-president of Heritage Newmarket Committee and Newmarket Historical Society, said he thinks the book will appeal to a wide audience because of the quality photographs that he and his father collected during the past 25 years.

wheels h More power, less fuel with 2014 Subaru Forester A u ro r a B a n n e r | N e w m a r k e t E r a | G e o rg i n a A d v o c a t e
STORY BY LORNE DRURY • METROLAND MEDIA
The distinctive hood scoop is gone, but diehard fans of the Subaru Forester XT can rest assured that the XT is still the performance champ in the Forester lineup for 2014. Boasting a 250 hp 2.0-litre direct injection four-cylinder engine with a twin-scroll turbocharger and mated with an updated continuously variable transmission (CVT), the XT is one of the best performing compact SUVs on the planet. It is extremely quick for a vehicle of this kind (0-100 km/h in 6.2 seconds, according to Subaru). Power in the XT has been increased by 20 hp this year, yet Subaru says fuel economy is best in class for all-wheel drive SUVs. But this is just part of the story for the Forester that helped create the crossover segment back in 1997 and has developed a loyal following ever since. It once was kind of a quirky vehicle that customers purchased because of its all-wheel drive and its reputation for reliability. Today, the Forester is much more mainstream, but it has stayed true to its roots with all-wheel drive as standard fare and an off-road capability that other compact SUVs are unable to match. Since the Forester is one of the core products in Subaru’s lineup (accounting for 23 per cent of
the 31,003 units of 2012 sales in Canada), getting the redesign right for 2014 was crucial. When Forester project manager Takuji Dai set out on the design path for the new model, his goals were to enhance the core strengths of the previous generation—safety, utility and performance—and improve on the weak points such as fuel economy, interior roominess and the transmission. After driving the Forester on rugged stretches of Vancouver Island at the Canadian launch earlier this year and then recently spending a week with an XT model here in Southern Ontario, I would say he was successful on all counts. Fuel economy is much improved with the 6.2L/100 km highway fuel economy rating (with the base 2.5-litre engine and the CVT) tops in class for AWD models. Meanwhile, there is more rear seat legroom and the new Lineartronic CVT is an improvement over past models. I often mention that I have never been a big fan of CVTs because of the loud whine they normally emit on hard acceleration, as well as the different feel you get from a CVT compared with a traditional transmission. However, I have to admit Subaru’s CVT on this XT model is one of the best I have tested. For casual observers, the exterior styling of the 2014 Forester will appear little changed, but

Subaru calls its redesign of the 2014 Forester compact SUV an evolution rather than a revolution. By building on the strengths and improving the weaknesses, Subaru has made a great vehicle even better. long-time Subaru fans will notice that the new look is bolder, particularly with the XT model that has a distinctive-looking front fascia. While the footprint of the Forester is not much different, the cabin is roomier both front and rear. Subaru engineers made the new Forester more passenger-friendly with lowered side sills (38 mm lower) for easier ingress along with wider rear door openings, making it easier to accommodate child seats in the rear. Outward visibility was already outstanding in the Forester, but the 2014 model has been improved even more with tweaks like higher front seats, relocation of the exterior mirrors and the A-pillar, and the addition of a rear view camera for all models except the base. Where the Forester outperforms the competition is off-road. With its standard all-wheel drive and 220 mm of ground clearance, the Forester can go where others fear to tred on muddy or snowcovered roads— in fact, perfect for many of those rugged cottage-country tracks. On regular pavement the Forester handles, well, like a car, although it is what some refer to as a ‘tall wagon’ and gets buffeted around a bit in heavy winds. Steering is now power assisted.
work together with the all-wheel drive system to provide extra control in slippery conditions. Also new for 2014 are anti-whiplash front seats, a driver’s side knee airbag, brake override and an impact-sensing fuel system cutoff. Greater use of high-strength steel has improved body rigidity on the new Forester and thus suspension performance is a cut above the old model. The XT model also gets a feature called SI Drive that gives the option of using I (Intelligent), S (Sport) and S# (Sport Sharp). I, for normal driving situations, provides smooth power output and improved fuel economy, while S increases use of higher engine speeds and S# gives sharper throttle response and eight-speed stepped shifting. Our XT Limited model, priced at $37,477 with freight and PDI added in, had a number of other high-end features such as a power liftgate, Xenon HID headlights, large glass power sunroof, leather upholstery, automatic dual-zone climate control and 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat. Continued on page 15
For those who value fuel economy over performance, the base Forester comes standard with a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre horizontally opposed Boxer engine, producing 170 hp and 174 lb/ft of torque. A new six-speed manual transmission is standard with the 2.5i entry-level model, starting at $25,995. The manual transmission is available only on the 2.5i base and the Touring models with the CVT an option. All other trims are offered with CVT only. And all CVT models also get a new feature called X-mode and Hill Descent Control that
The 2014 Forester has a more upscale interior, with many new amenities available.

Baker-Francis steps into line on gridiron BY JOHN CUDMORE
jcudmore@yrmg.com
The very notion that approximately half a front line is walking their hallways would have most high school football coaches running to hold open doors. When Devon Baker-Francis arrived at Huron Heights Secondary School, playing football was not his on his agenda and the football program was bit leery of the 450pound entry level student, too. It wasn’t until his second year at Huron Heights that Baker-Francis enlisted with the Warriors’ junior program. Even that was a result of some persuasion by a teacher in the alternate education program to Huron Heights coach Heath Weir, with a nod to Hollywood. Ask him today and Baker-Francis concedes with a laugh that he, too, might have been skeptical about himself. He is not yet a model student — more like improved. Still, Baker-Francis accepted a scholarship package to attend New Mexico Military Institute, hoping to convert a chance for two years of free education at the junior college into a four-year NCAA gig. The odds may be improbable, but not impossible. “It’s a great opportunity,” said Baker-Francis, who began classes last week at the school in Roswell. “I’ve never had something like this before, so I’m really happy.” After attending Holland Landing Public School, Baker-Francis arrived at Huron Heights in the York Region District School Board’s Eight+ program, an academic and social bridge between elementary and secondary school for students. Still mourning the passing of his mother, Lori, when he was in Grade 8, he never got into serious trouble, but at the same time, he had a good idea where it could be found.
‘I was too busy trying to get cool and skipping classes and stuff. Eventually, I realized I was being stupid and had to smarten up.’ Devon Baker-Francis
on how the Huron Heights football program helped him
“I was too busy trying to get cool and skipping classes and stuff,” Baker-Francis, 18, said. “Eventually, I realized I was being stupid and had to smarten up.” It helped that he was in Weir’s class. “He knew my situation,” said Baker-Francis, now just a tad shy of six-feet, six-inches and weighing 375 pounds. “No one pushed me in Grade 9. I think most teachers were intimidated — I’d be intimidated — and knew that I was grieving. My mother is why I’m inspired. I want to be good and have her be proud of me.” While the stories have differences, it’s difficult to ignore the similarities to The Blind Side, a movie based on the life of Michael Oher, who overcame the odds for an AllAmerica college football career and became a first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in the National Football League. “In Grade 9, he was still trying to find his ground at the school and where he fit in,” Weir said of Baker-Francis. “I guess the best way to describe him is as a fringe kid. He was never in deep trouble, but he was always around it. “I’d just watched Blind Side and it kind of sparked the idea. Devon’s kind of our Blind Side. He’s very much a friendly guy and has emerged as kind of a leader with our team. ” He started his Huron Heights career on

Huron Heights Warriors’ Devon BakerFrancis will attend New Mexico Military Institute next year. defence, but now his best position is offensive guard, although he regularly played both ways on his way to becoming a two-time York Region Athletic Association all-star. “We looked at him in Grade 10 as a big body for the junior level,” Weir recalled. “In Grade 11, he was a nose tackle because he was limited in what he could do. In our Metro Bowl run (2012), he started to show he could play and be more than a gap filler. This year, he played both ways and in five or six games, he was our lineman of the game. Now, there isn’t anybody around who can move him around if he stays low.” Convincing the student-athlete to toe the line was a big assignment for the Huron Heights coaching staff.
PROUDLY SUPPORTING LOCAL SPORTS
“I had a couple of heart-to-heart talks with him that it was in his best interest to continue playing football and staying out of trouble and maintaining his discipline,” head coach Al Rover said. “He has a good athletic IQ in that he understands the plays more than most of the kids and that has really helped him learn his position. “Football has really kept him out of trouble. He knows that and we know that. He’s worked hard as a student and as a person to mature. “We wondered at first if he could handle the demands of our program. He wasn’t all that interested in school and football demands a lot of time, too, but for the last couple of years, it’s been real enjoyable.” It took time for the player to figure out the guy with the whistle wins most arguments. “It was hard to get used to,” Baker-Francis said, adding sometimes he wouldn’t do the work until Weir started keeping track of him. “We’d have some yelling matches,” the student said. “We had some optional workouts, but for me they were mandatory. “But I learned if you follow instructions, things work better. Football made me a better person. Before football, I was this guy going to get into trouble. One hundred per cent I would have dropped out. I’m the only kid from the 8-1/2 program to graduate. I still find teachers who taught me then who are surprised I’m still in school.” It is hoped the military concept will provide the incentive for Baker-Francis to succeed both on and off the field. The school won the National Junior College Athletic Association state championship last season. “He needs to stay in a structured environment to be successful,” Weir said. “If he can maintain his academics, he can lay the foundation to go to a four-year school down the road.”

Cujo tyke hockey tournament wraps up today BY JOHN CUDMORE
jcudmore@yrmg.com
The stakes are a little higher when the sixth Curtis Joseph tyke invitational hockey tournament resumes today with consolation and championship games at the Magna Centre in Newmarket. Thirty-two teams from Ontario and the United States started Friday and were guaranteed five games each. Today’s play gets underway at 7:45 a.m. The marquee match is the platinum division game at 4 p.m. Host teams include the Newmarket Redmen, Aurora Tigers, Georgina Blaze, Vaughan Rangers and Markham Waxers.
Atom Panthers double Flames, put bite on Sharks’ Classic title Annika Arsenault scored her second goal of the game on a breakaway early in the third period to boost the Aurora Panthers to a 2-1 victory over the Clarington Flames in the gold medal game for the girls atom double-A division at the 30th Scarborough Sharks New Year’s Classic girls hockey tournament Sunday in Scarborough. The goal broke a 1-1 tie with nine minutes to play as Aurora held off the Flames for their second tournament victory this season. Hannah Murphy was named game MVP.
Despite posting an undefeated record (2-0-2) in four round-robin games, the Panthers needed a 2-1 shootout win over the host Sharks to claim their berth in the final. Mackenzie Zinner scored the shootout winner against Scarborough.
Hurricanes, St. Mike’s Buzzers face off in charity tilt The Newmarket Hurricanes and St. Michael’s Buzzers will team up for charity when they face off Feb. 9 in Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Ray Twinney Complex. Billed as the Battle of York, the regular season contest is part of the Hurricanes’ tradition of dedicating one game each season to raising funds for the Southlake Regional Health Centre’s cancer centre. The game is played in memory of former Hurricanes players Kevin Lord and KJ Ramolla and Josh Sedore, the son of assistant coach Steve Sedore. The game, which features the 2013 league finalists, is at 2:30 p.m. Pre-game activities include games between Newmarket Minor Hockey Association teams starting at 1:10 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for seniors and students and $4 for children younger than 10.
