TWO | 2017 — INCLUDES SUMMERONMARKET POSTER

Summer doesn’t end on a day. It ends in moments. It ends on the first dreary day when you consider pulling a sweater out of the closet. It ends while sitting in the middle of a traffic jam, because all the kids are back in school and all the parents are driving to work at the same time. It ends when Pumpkin Spice Latte shows up at Starbucks. The Pumpkin Spice Latte is here, people.

But before that first cold wind blows down Market, let’s take a moment to bask in the remaining rays of summer sun—the lunchtime streets are full, the Rodney Square farmer’s market is still open on Wednesdays, and happy hour calls...

HEALTHY GOODS IN A CREATIVE WAY Wilmington Green Box took over a small strip of green on Market this summer and transformed it into a summertime pop-up juicebar, with a locally-produced menu, a giant lounging chair for afternoon power naps and free Wi-Fi for all you laptop warriors in need of some fresh air.

“I think that people are eager to come into the city and feel like they’re part of it in a way they know is safe and entertaining and fun—That final moment looking down Market Street...

LADYBUG MUSIC FESTIVAL

#NEWMARKETWILM ...there are people dancing and you just sit back and go, wow, music really does bring people together and it’s really cool.” - Gayle Dillman and Jeremy Hebbel from Gable Music Ventures

#EXPERIENCE EVENTS GEARED TOWARDS MILLENNIALS The city is built for commuters. But millennials aren’t really about commuting. More and more we want to live in cities and be close to the action. With Market Street offering so much, it’s time to get out, bring friends and be a part of it. Accelerate Delaware, Wilmington Placemakers and the City partnered up to put together Young Professionals Week. A series of events geared towards millennials working and living in the city. The effort is in its first few years but is already leaving its mark in the must-attend list of events that Wilmington has to offer. These events were located on Market and around the area. Panel discussions, lunch breaks, open mic nights, yoga in the square; just to name a few. There was a lot to choose from.

8TH AND MARKET FLAVOR

ICE CREAM “For ‘8th and Market,’ the students thought about the cobblestones on Market Street. So, they came up with chocolate ice cream with chocolate cookies and mini marshmallows.”

- LeeAnne Ahamad, UDairy Creamery Market Manager

#TASTE THE NOT-SO-SECRET HISTORY OF MARKET’S BEST FISH TACO What we’re eating: Fish tacos from KOI on the Go at the Downtown Farmers Market at Rodney Square. Owner Paul Lauprasert pushes out more than 100 orders of these beauties during the typical two-hour lunch window on Wednesdays. Each one is made fresh and assembled to order. The truck also offers Thai fried rice, crab cakes and (if you’re super lucky and you catch them on special) pork dumplings, but the tacos that started as a side dish nine years ago have become the star of the show. The Downtown Farmers Market at Rodney Square pops up every Wednsday from 10AM-2PM—the season will come to an end on October 25. Grab lunch while you can!

THE QUEEN | WILMINGTON

“The biggest change people will see – whether they come to a show or not – will be on the outside. Where the current box office was on the corner, we’re creating a bar space, with windows that open up onto the street. It is going to change the dynamic of that corner.” - General Manager Trenton Banks

A STARBUCKS IN THE CENTER OF MARKET A spacious floor plan. Funky light fixtures. A giant string-art map of the coffee-producing world. And what can only be described by any laptop warrior as a bountiful selection of electrical sockets. A visit to the Starbucks on Market Street lays waste to the idea that every Starbucks is like every other Starbucks. Deb Cotterall and Sarah Lamb, two insiders, chat about the vibe: SARAH: A lot of business people are coming down to have little one-on-ones or informal meetings, but then you get the music nights and then you get, on the weekends, a more residential crew. It’s turning out to be a multi-use space, which is neat. DEB: We are open seven days a week. Every Friday and Sunday, we do have live music, acoustic guitar. Especially on Sundays, it’s a nice place to go, sit and relax.
