As last year was racing to an end, the team at Labotec wished one and all a peaceful, relaxed, and safe holiday. In 2021, Labotec’s year was again peppered with economic uncertainty enhanced by the pandemic situation. Their team stood high with courage, tenacity and teamwork, and they are proud to have opened a new division and a new branch: molecular biology and the Kenyan branch.
To finally unwind, the Labotec end-of-year function was held at Centurion Raceway, which challenged everyone to “race” towards the finish line. This “mobilised” the perfect endyear activity to socially distance with a helmet for protection, and to have some well-deserved fun at the same time.
Labotec are, as always, grateful for their continued collaborative partnerships in Science & Technology and wish everyone a 2022 that is filled with success, happiness and good health.

INQABA – RARE AND PRECIOUS Inqaba Biotechnical Industries Pty/Ltd, trading as inqaba biotec™ in sub-Saharan Africa, is a South African Genomics company established in 2002. Inqaba is an IsiXhosa name for “rare and precious” and pays homage to our South African origin.
The company headquarters is based in Pretoria, South Africa. In 2010, the Kenyan subsidiary, Inqaba Biotec East Africa Ltd, was launched in Nairobi. Thereafter, Inqaba Biotec West Africa Ltd was registered in Nigeria in 2014, followed by branch offices in Ghana (2018), Tanzania (2019) and Senegal (2020). The company was founded by a venture team of five, of whom two, Prof. Göttfert and Dr. Preisig, are still actively engaged with the company. In 2007, inqaba biotec started offering genome sequencing using a sequencing technology from 454, which at that time was a novel innovation and made us pioneers in offering genome sequencing services in Africa. In 2020, we started sequencing with the state-of-the-art sequencer Sequel IIe from PacBio. Currently, Inqaba Biotechnical employs over 100 people in South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe, creating a sales and support network across sub-Saharan Africa. This facilitates our aim of getting better support and logistics to our customers in the field of life sciences and molecular diagnostics, as part of our contribution to further develop Science and Technology in sub-Saharan Africa.
