Olympus Stream software Inspection without limitation

N

ew Olympus Stream 2.4 image analysis software enables users of any experience level to conduct complex image analysis tasks - from image acquisition to reporting - under any imaging condition. With a host of new features, Olympus Stream offers fully tailored solutions for all manufacturing, QC and research application. With the new Olympus Stream 2.4 software, users in all industries - from electronics and semi-conductors to general manufacturing, steel production and automotive - can now conduct fast and precise observations on a large variety of samples while maintaining data security and measurement reliability. Simple camera and microscope

control make analysis easy for users who often change their workstations, and intuitive step-by-step workflows enable multiple operators to use the same software for different inspection tasks. All results are centralised in one location. Olympus Stream guides operators at every step, from image capture and measurement to sharing results reducing the need for training, thereby saving time and cost. Creating a report often takes longer than the image capture and analysis, so Olympus Stream enables users to produce smart, sophisticated and easily editable reports. The software includes the most comprehensive range of the latest international materials sciences standards, so customers can be assured of compliance in their relevant industry and region. Olympus Stream 2.4 now supports IR

imaging for enhanced, non-destructive inspection of silicon wafers and solar cells at the end of the manufacturing process. It also supports various illumination methods, including MIX observation, which enables users to highlight defects and differentiate raised surfaces from depressions that are normally difficult to see with conventional microscopes. For real-time analysis on the production line, the live imaging functionality means users can immediately respond to complex problems, thereby reducing overall analysis time and increasing productivity. The new dendrite arm spacing function automatically measures the mean secondary dendrite arm spacing in lightweight aluminium casting to monitor solidification time, a key factor for improving mechanical properties, such as tensile strength and elongation. Enhanced ability to measure simple and complex porosity means that users can be confident in their weld assembly and additive manufacturing inspections. When an operator needs to be able to quickly capture a larger, panoramic image, or

High-speed DSC technology for materials characterisation

D

ifferential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) is the most important method in thermal analysis. It measures the heat flow to or from a sample as a function of temperature or time and thereby allows physical transitions and chemical reactions to be quantitatively determined. High-speed DSC overcomes certain limits of conventional DSC by achieving ultra-high cooling rates, typical in real-life production, and ultra-high heating rates allowing one to separate physical and chemical effects, such as melting from decomposition. This makes High-speed DSC ideal for the characterisation of novel materials in R&D and optimisation of production processes. Mettler Toledo’s Flash DSC 2+ represents a quantum leap in thermal analysis technology and revolutionises rapid-scanning DSC. The instrument can

analyse reorganisation processes that were previously impossible to measure and is the ideal complement to conventional DSC. Ultra-high heating and cooling rates The ultra-high heating and cooling rates add a new dimension to the study of thermally induced physical transitions and chemical processes, for example the crystallisation and reorganisation of polymers, metals and other

Checktemp 4 temperature tester With folding probe

T

he Checktemp 4 is the perfect portable, high-accuracy thermometer for home and professional kitchens. The sharp, stainless steel, fold-out probe is ideal when testing fresh, cooked and semi-frozen food. The sensing tip allows the user to accurately measure the temperature of thin food or the thickest part of the sample. The HI151 Checktemp 4 measures the temperature in both °C and °F. The thermometer has a waterproof and compact casing and is factory calibrated.

The calibration is verified every time the thermometer is turned ON. The thermometer features a motion sensor, which eliminates the need of closing and re-opening the probe when the meter goes idle. Six colour-coded thermometers meet the food hygiene and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulations: • Ergonomic shape • Measures in both °C and °F • Case features IP67 protection and floats • Large LCD • Turns on by motion sensor • Internal calibration verification HANNA INSTRUMENTS JHB: (011) 615 6076 CPT: (011) 946 1722 DBN: (031) 701 2711 hanna@hanna.co.za www.hanna.co.za

The extremely short time constant of about 0.2ms makes it possible to achieve: • Ultra-high heating rates up to 3 000 000K/min enable materials to be analysed without interference from reorganisation processes - there is no time for such processes to occur • Ultra-high cooling rates up to 2 400 000K/min allow the formation of materials with defined structural properties Fast response sensor The fast response sensor feature enables the kinetics of extremely fast reactions or crystallisation processes to be studied. High sensitivity permits measurements at low heating rates that overlap with conventional DSC. In the Flash DSC 2+, the sample is

where they need an extended depth of focus, Olympus Stream has the answers. The Extended Focus Image (EFI) function combines multiple Z-level images to build a single image that is entirely in focus, and Instant Multiple Image Alignment (MIA) enables users to create panoramic images simply by moving the XY stage, without the need for a motorised stage. The new Olympus Stream 2.4 software is optimised for Olympus hardware, so that all are controlled with the same easyto-use interface. Featuring many sophisticated updates, Olympus Stream makes it as easy as possible for users to acquire sharp, crisp images for quantitative measurements and reporting based on the latest standards, no matter the application.
