b) Open the water source/tap so that water can flow freely through the measuring equipment. Any air present in the measuring equipment will be removed by doing this. c) Close the ball lock tap slowly and completely. d) The pressure indicated on the pressure meter after the garden tap has been closed completely is the static pressure in the system. Write down this reading as per table 1. Please note that there is no flow rate, and because of that the flow rate against the static pressure for table 1 will always be ‘zero’. e) Slowly open the garden tap until the reading on the pressure metre goes down to 2.8bar. f) Start filling the previously calibrated bucket at the required pressure. Note down the time that it takes to fill this previously calibrated bucket on the stopwatch. Write down the time that it took against the established pressure 2.8bar as per table 1. g) Empty the bucket. h) Open the garden tap until the gauge drops to 2.1bar. i) Repeat step (f) and remember to complete the table. j) Repeat steps (h) and (f) with the pressure meter

in various types and they are for fitting the disc to the machine, including some that don’t require a spanner to fasten and loosen. Regardless of which type, make sure that you are not over tightening it as these machines are designed to self-tighten on start-up, therefore requiring only tightening by hand. Remember to inspect discs for potential damage prior to use. The periphery of the disc should be intact, not chipped or frayed and it should be flat, not warped. Never attempt to bend or twist the disc as the fibre reinforcing will be damaged and potentially form a dangerous crack. Safe usage and operation pictograms are displayed on each disc label that should present the following markings: OSA – Organisation for Safety of Abrasives These manufacturers commit to certified quality management with documented processes and internal testing facilities of the highest competence ensuring product safety for the end user. EN Standard European safety requirement for bonded abrasive products (such as cutting and grinding discs – EN 12413) Safety pictograms These pictograms show the required PPE to ensure safety for the operator and includes gloves, ear protection, eye protection etc. Material applications The disc will identify which type of materials it may be used on. Note that this will quite possibly only be a general identifier (such as Metal). Contact the manufacturer should you require more detail on specific applications. Wheel type This will tell you whether the disc is manufactured for free-hand cutting, stationary-machine cutting or grinding applications. A cutting disc should never be used to grind with or cut anything but in a straight line. Bending the disc to cut a curve or radius will result in the fibre reinforcing becoming damaged and may cause wheel failure.
It doesn’t matter what you create, your goal is a perfect result. Sika construction adhesives help you master the daily challenges.
For grinding applications, a minimum grinding angle of 30˚ is essential. This is what is termed the angle of attack. The optimal range is between 30˚ and 40˚ to the surface. Should you increase

the angle of attack, the disc will be dressed more and the effectiveness of the grind will be reduced. This could also lead to chatter marks and large, deep scratches in the work piece. Should you reduce the angle of attack, you run the risk of overheating the face of the disc, which will cause the disc to start fragmenting and may become a major safety hazard. Taking the time to choose the correct tool and using this in conjunction with the highest quality, value for money abrasive products will ensure that you complete your task safely and with minimal effort. Samson umbrella. This complete retail
solution consists of more than 500line items and are displayed on neatly designed labelled supplier stands. Look out for the new ‘Black Japan’ rage in the ironmongery category. ‘Black Japan’ consists mostly of an asphaltic base dissolved in naphtha or turpentine, sometimes with other varnish ingredients, such as linseed oil. It is applied directly to metal parts, and then baked at about 200°C for up to an hour, which contributes to a more durable finish on any metal product. You will find several products with this finish in its Samson range in different sizes – all in a blistered package. DISTRIBUTOR: Boltfix EMAIL: thinus@boltfix.co.za VISIT: www.boltfix.co.za

turned 35 in June 2020 – We thank our customers!
Join us for some stories - let’s honour our industry’s hardware heroes
SERVICE MATTERS BSH BUILDING SUPPLIERS Central Demolishers & Hardware was founded in 1957 by Govind Jivan. Shainal and his sister Sheel are the third generation Jivans running this successful business. The original demolition business also traded with secondhand supplies such as window frames and doors recovered from demolished buildings. As the business grew, new hardware was added to the store's product line up. In 1980 Govind's son Hemant, started to work in the business and bought it in 1989. He ran the business until 2008 when his son Shainal could take over the store. Customers still ask for Hemant and although he is semi-retired, he occasionally comes in when he can. The business has been renamed to BSH Building Suppliers to clarify its current focus and has gradually evolved into a complete hardware and building materials solution. Today, the store has close to 18 000 products available under one roof, from material needed for foundations up to the roof, plumbing through to paint, finishes and sanitary ware. The store's appearance has changed and improved through the years. Before, everything used to be behind a counter, so customers could not interact with products. In keeping with changing times, the store was changed dramatically and is currently laid out for convenience and self-service. The original store footprint was a mere 20m2. Hemant took over and expanded it to 500m2. Shainal is currently building, expanding and improving with his store already covering 2500m2 in total.
The present owner Shainal Jivan
Success & repeat business According to Shainal “Customers want to walk into stores that are visually appealing and displays a diversified range of products. In our case this attracts more and more customers.” Their slogan is: WHERE SERVICE MATTERS – Customers appreciate the convenience of a wide range and availability, but product knowledge and advice serves our customers well. In their case, word of mouth gives the most valuable exposure: “Contractors that know how we work refer us to others!”
BSH is proud of short delivery times - aiming for same day delivery. Customers will receive their products within 24 hours. Hemant started with only one truck and expanded the fleet to nine vehicles.
Eureka has supplied the store since 1994 – BSH Building Suppliers started out with only a few EUREKA stands, but as the brand grew more popular, their fasteners product line expanded through the years.
Clientele is approximately 60% DIY 40% Contractors and they also supply Developers requiring building supplies.
Prepacked fasteners have really sold well here through the years. DIY customers requiring smaller quantities find what they need, and contractor-customers buy a lot of the larger 'Trade-' and 'Bulk Packs'. Customers find the right products easily on the stands, "we do not even need to tend to that - generally, around 90% of these sales are self-service."
“Contractors that know how we work refer us to others!”
Why have you been with EUREKA for so long? "Your service to us has been exceptional. We appreciate that EUREKA always has stock available and our store is replenished well – all products relating to fasteners and locks are available under one roof. Over the years, the process of replenishing products has worked well. Our sales representative visits our store religiously and goes through each product line to take an order. Once completed, management approves the order and within a few days our shelves are stocked up. The process has been simplified and there is minimal involvement from my staff. This is one of the main reasons we have kept a good relationship with EUREKA. That and the fact that EUREKA products are of the highest quality. " "It comes down to the service we receive from EUREKA. If a customer needs something urgently, we just need to make one phone call to EUREKA and they will assist. I can rely on EUREKA, if they promise me I will receive my stock tomorrow, I can count on it. If they tell me it’s coming, it is coming!" "EUREKA has also always updated our store with new products. Every few months, Eureka introduces more products to our store. This shows us that Eureka is always progressing and keeping up with market demands. The way that your products are displayed in our store has made it a very simple process for our customers to find what they need. Another reason why Eureka has done so well in our store is that customers feel that they are getting value for their money - The quality is good and the price is right!”
Advice to inspire other stores, things you have learnt? "Customers need to get service. Shainal proudly concludes: “As owners, we have always been involved in our store. We interact with customers and help where we can. We are proud of this store and this is why this business has been around for over 5 decades. We really do adhere to our slogan “WHERE SERVICE MATTERS” and we hope to continue to bring joy to our customers in the future.”
