proposition So what does it mean? It means everyone in the transaction wins and yes, it really is possible!
Let’s explain... Firstly, we have a great range
We have 33 years’ experience and over time have crafted a nifty range of pre-packed fasteners that cater for the unique needs of Southern Africa. Our range is comprehensive and include 1 943 SKUs. We take a scientific approach to packaging and pack quantities in order to satisfy everyone from the small DIY’er to the large contractor. We are a one-stop shop, making procurement a breeze, saving you time, money and lots of effort.
Good looking, clever and quite popular
We have attractive header boards with HOW-TO product information. The stands are grouped by category and are colour coded so that customers can help themselves – saving your sales people valuable time. EUREKA is a well-known and trusted brand.
Services included
Shelving is supplied free of charge and we can even price the stock for you in the form of on-the-shelf labels. We professionally assist with procurement, sales history and our sales representatives do stock counts when re-ordering. Your stock is delivered on uniquely designed delivery frames for quick, accurate and easy check-in. In addition, you don’t need to worry about merchandising as this is done by the driver when we deliver. We deliver nationwide to more than 2000 customers across Southern Africa using state-of-the-art tracking and distribution systems. All these services help you and your salespeople to have more time available with your customer Everyone wins...
Give me more SPACE!
We understand that floor space is valuable, expensive and limited and therefore must be used optimally. We are masters at optimising floor space and on average get 110 SKUs per running meter, depending on your shelf height. How’s that for packing a punch! This means a great return on space used and it means more choice for your customer.
A win-win for everyone!
More than the [bag] you see on the shelf The Magic that happens in the background...
We are logistic experts and use advanced information technologies for seamless integration between processes We practice responsible procurement, keeping enough stock (and safety stock) in our warehouse to ensure you get what you order. Our average fill rate for the last 3 years is 99%, meaning you don’t need to place back-orders. We have quality controls at all major points in the process, from sourcing to placing orders up to delivery.
BUT how can you do all of this and still be affordable?
Easiest way to explain this is that the whole is bigger than sum of its parts. When there is synergy between systems and business units including Economies of Scale, it is possible that 1 + 1 + 1 = 5.

Securing the world’s posessions SINCE 1843
As Yale celebrates its 175th birthday, we’re taking a look back at the history which created the globally recognised brand we know today. After emigrating from North Wales, UK to Newport in New York during the 19th century, the Yale family began designing and manufacturing a range of high security locks. It was here in 1843 that the first lock patent was taken out by Linus Yale Sr. for a Combination Lock. However, it was only when their son, Linus Yale Jr. joined the company in 1850 that progress really began to made on developing the famous pin tumbler cylinder lock. The pin tumbler mechanism was first employed by the ancient Egyptians over 4,000 years prior and is still used extensively throughout the security industry today. The mechanism uses pins of varying lengths to prevent the lock from opening without the correct key. In 1857, Yale Jr. patented his design - a move which marked the start of the Yale we know today and put the company on the map. In 1868, Yale partnered with colleague Henry Towne to create Yale & Towne which at the time employed 35 people. The company grew and broadened its scope even introducing a line of padlocks in 1879. Following acquisitions, purchases and joint ventures, by the 20th century the organisation had rebranded back to Yale and expanded worldwide, employing over 12,000 people.
YALE | 175 YEARS OF YALE LOCKS
175 years in the making. Still pioneering. Since 1843 we have provided the security to protect what matters most in over 125 countries.
Today, Yale products are stocked in over 125 countries and are fondly known as ‘the world’s favourite lock’. Yale has also become a ‘generic trademark’ meaning that the product has become so synonymous with the brand that the name is interchangeable. For example, nightlatches and cylinder locks are often referred to generically as ‘Yale locks’ even if they are manufactured by another brand. The company has continued to grow from strength to strength and in August 2000, Yale was purchased by lock conglomerate ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in door opening solutions. Kate Clark, Managing Director for Yale EMEA, said: “Yale has an extensive heritage in developing a range of locking solutions for both commercial and residential settings. I have worked at Yale for 10 years and I’m proud to be a part of a company that recognises its roots while continuing to adapt and evolve to remain innovative in the changing home security landscape.”

Chryso sees new hope despite challenges The CEO of Chryso SA says its industry sees new oportunities despite excess cement capacity and competitive conditions. “SOUTH AFRICA’S NEW political leadership has brought new optimism to the South African construction industry, but the wounds of excess capacity still fester,” says Norman Seymore, CEO of the Chryso South Africa Group and vicepresident of Chryso globally. Seymore says although President Cyril Ramaphosa has only recently taken over the reins politically and the land expropriation issue could still pose challenges for the ANC government – the local construction industry now seems to have a sense of ‘cautious optimism’ about its future. “There is the expectation that long-delayed infrastructural projects, which were budgeted for many years ago could finally be released to provide more work in the building and ancillary sectors. Why is this your vehicle of choice? I love Audi – this is my fifth Audi, and most important is the customer service I receive from Audi East Rand – it’s awesome! If you had a choice (take money out of the equation) what vehicle would you drive? Mmm, if I won the lotto…I have too many favourites. But if forced – I would buy a Toyota Land Cruiser as a 4x4 and a Maserati GranTurismo as my dream car. Why? Just because! But really a new Audi Q7 is probably my next choice! Service – the best. WOOD DRILLING TIPS • Measure and mark holes accurately before drilling. • Never use the hammer action while drilling wood. • Position the drill bit on the exact point where you want to drill the hole. Give it a push into the wood to stabilise the drill bit before you start drilling. You can also use a centre punch to make a dimple. • Set the drill at a low speed. This is best for wood. Hold the drill steady and avoid applying
too much pressure. Place the tip into the pilot hole and drill forward. You can increase the speed as you move through the wood. • For a clean hole on both sides of the wood, use a backboard and down drill into it. This will prevent unsightly tear out at the bottom as the drill bit emerges from the wood. • Remove sawdust from the flutes on the drill bit before you use it again.

depth, blow out the dust.
DRILLING INTO TILES Tile drill bits are designed for drilling into ceramic tiles, porcelain tiles, granite, marble and glass. For very hard tiles use a diamond tipped core drill bit • Mark the position where the hole must be drilled; make sure that the markings are level if more than one hole needs to be drilled. • Drill at low speed with medium pressure and use water for cooling if necessary. • Never use the drill on hammer action for tiles. • Use a more appropriate type bit for the material behind the tile (like masonry / concrete) or glass. • Drill bits tend to run or wander on smooth surfaces. Minimise this by drilling through pieces of masking tape stuck onto the glass or tile where the hole will be drilled.
LOOKING AFTER DRILL BITS Two factors that have the most influence on the quality of the hole drilled and lifespan of a drill bit are speed and feed. Speed The peripheral speed of the drill bit is controlled by varying the RPM of the drilling machine. Excessive speed will heat the drill bit beyond a temperature at which it can operate effectively and it will lose its cutting edge. As a bit’s diameter increases, RPM should decrease and as the material being drilled gets harder, RPM should also decrease. Feed This is the rate at which the drill bit should be advanced through the material being drilled. This is impossible to regulate with handheld drilling machines but translates as how much pressure should be applied. As a rule, the harder the material being drilled, the more force needs to be applied. DIY & INDUSTRIAL TRADE NEWS JUNE 2018
