The February/March 2022 issue of Leading Architecture + Design features a century-old architectural icon on the cover, reimaging for a new era. The Winchester (formerly Winchester Mansions) in Sea Point, Cape Town, is a much-loved hotel in the Cape Dutch Revivalist style, which was deftly refurbished GAPP Architects working closely with Source Interior Brand Architecture. Together, they carried out an extensive architectural overhaul, but so deftly and sensitively that many patrons could barely tell the difference. Also in this issue is the new campus for Curro Durbanville High School, also in Cape Town, by BPAS Architects, and The Capital Mbombela, a new hotel by Boogertman + Partners in Mpumalanga. This issue also includes sections focussing on: energy management; walling, cladding and facades; flooring; and bathrooms.
