TIME TO VIBE

A first for Africa, the much-awaited new Vīb Cape Town has everyone smiling!

The new Vïb Cape Town is a first for Africa. One of only four of its kind in the world, it is the only Vïb in the whole of the Southern Hemisphere! Short for ‘vibrant’ and pronounced ‘vibe’, Vïb is the newest hotel offering from global hospitality group Best Western International, and a coup for Cape Town. This stylish and technology-centric hotel has been specifically created to meet the needs of today’s urban traveller. Its striking, futuristic architecture and interiors were designed by well-known local architect Robert Silke. “Vïb Cape Town evokes the grand tropical modernism of Sol Kerzner’s original seaside hotels,” says Silke. Enhancing an already unique façade is one of the standout features of the hotel – a roof-top pool that playfully cantilevers 25m out from the building and over Main Road, Green Point. It sports aquarium-grade portholes in the bottom and a giant plexiglass ‘smile’ on the front, making the building instantly recognisable.

But that’s not the only thing that’ll have you smiling! Located in Green Point, close to the V&A Waterfront and within walking distance of many famous local landmarks, such as the Green Point Urban Park and Sea Point Promenade, and a host of other amenities, this conveniently situated eight-storey hotel affords visitors magnificent views and no fewer than 76 expertly designed and environmentally conscious hotel rooms.

“Our rooms are designed specifically to provide our guests with every necessary comfort and convenience tailored to their specific requirements, including no less than an extra-length queen-sized bed, large-screen TV, generous bathroom with a shower, Nespresso machine, individual workstations with Herman Miller task chairs, and dedicated Wi-Fi access points in each room,” says Niall Bruyns, General Manager, Vïb Cape Town. For those requiring additional IT security, individual ethernet cables are also standard across all 76 rooms.

Further setting the hotel apart, Vïb Cape Town boasts the inclusion of the Jaffer Modern art gallery on its penultimate floor. The latest addition to Cape Town’s contemporary art landscape, Jaffer Modern aims to promote both established and aspiring pan-African artists to the local and international market, and is open to the public. Guestcurated by the talented Margie Murgatroyd of Africa Nova fame, the gallery’s inaugural exhibition, Gathering, is a fascinating collection of 80 portraits by various artists. Vïb Cape Town’s other facilities and amenities include a rooftop entertainment area and pool deck with awe-inspiring views and the aforementioned glasswalled pool that overlooks Green Point and Robben Island. There’s also an on-site gym sporting the latest fitness equipment, such as digital treadmills and ellipticals, as well as a weight-lifting bench and dumbbells.

On the ground floor, alongside reception, there’s an open-plan bar, lounge, restaurant and outdoor terrace called the Eye Bar, offering a variety of local and international cuisine to both resident and non-resident guests. Eye Bar is open to the public for breakfast, lunch and dinner and also serves signature cocktails to accompany a small plates menu of tapas-style dishes.

“Our goal has been to identify and cater to every requirement of today’s busy, connected traveller, enhanced by one of the world’s most beautiful settings. We offer expertly thought-out and up-to-date technically proficient hotel rooms, together with convenient access to surrounding attractions. We also cater to relaxation activities within the hotel, with a spectacular rooftop pool deck with incredible views of the ocean, Table Mountain and the cityscape, and a contemporary menu of vibrant modern cuisine, featuring sushi and tapas-style sharing dishes alongside favourites like grilled steaks and gourmet burgers,” continues Niall.

Says investor Muslim Jaffer, owner of Vïb Cape Town, “We have been working with Best Western International on this project since 2016 and are confident that our long-term vision and investment in the first Vïb by Best Western in Africa is the right decision. Now that we’re open, we’re thrilled to be welcoming guests!”

Vïb Cape Town is pitched at the domestic traveller seeking a dynamic designer stop-over. As part of its commitment to supporting all things local, South African guests will automatically receive a local rate on bookings made directly through the hotel. •
