MORRIS BART SR., LECTURE SERIES AT THE J THE FREE ENTERPRISE SYSTEM
Do you know what the free enterprise system is and how it works? The eight ingredients of free enterprise have provided more wealth and growth throughout human history than any other economic system. Amazingly, Americans are more familiar with socialism than the economic system that our own Constitution invented. Today most high school and college students are prone toward socialism, government healthcare, free college tuitions, and other free welfare benefits as a “right.” Many Americans consider free enterprise a brutally competitive and antiquated system. The American Dream is that anyone can become a millionaire. What is the truth? In this presentation, Sidney Pulitzer, former President and CEO of Wemco and current
Professor of Entrepreneurship at the Freeman School of Business at Tulane, will discuss these two very different economic systems and how they work. He will cover the history of both, compare their methods, and evaluate the consequences. Lunch will be served. RSVP by Thursday, July 6 to Rachel Ruth at 897-0143 or rachel@nojcc.org. NEW ORLEANS MUSEUM OF ART JIM STEG: NEW WORK Jim Steg (1922-2001) was the most influential printmaker to be based in New Orleans in the twentieth century. This exhibition reveals Steg as both an innovator in the field of printmaking, and an artist at the forefront of several major twentieth-century movements. It also details his fascinating and multifaceted career, which included time as a soldier responsible for deceiving the armies of the Third Reich by staging troop movements with inflatable tanks, appearances at the Carnegie International exhibition of contemporary art in the late 1940s, and his role in inspiring many now renowned artists as a teacher in New Orleans. Jim Steg: New Work, includes etchings, woodcuts, drawings of refugees made during World War II, photo-resist etchings, Xerox toner works, and many others that have never before been on public display. 6

BUILDING BLOCKS: INVERSION WORKSHOP
Join Kelly Bond-Osorio as you put your heart above your head, both figuratively and literally, and reap all the benefits inversions can offer! Stimulate circulation, strengthen your core, improve mental awareness, and calm your mind! Inversions can be some of the most empowering and beneficial postures in yoga, asking us to move through our fears to see the world from a different perspective. Following a thorough warm-up, we’ll study simple inversions such as uttanasana (standing forward bend) as well as the more advanced sirsasana (headstand)—and many in between—taking the time build our alignment from the ground up, or from the top down, depending on your perspective! This is a fun and engaging workshop designed to suit all levels of yoga practitioners, although some experience with yoga is recommended. Learn techniques to put you at ease as you turn your world upside down!
FLY WITH ME: ARM BALANCE WORKSHOP
Join Kelly Bond-Osorio as we fly and float through the art of arm balances! Some of the most empowering (and daunting) postures in yoga, arm balances have the potential to help us tune in to our own inner strength and courage, as well as our innate playfulness. Learn techniques to create lightness and space through an understanding of the mechanics and leverage of arm balances. Feeling inspired to try these intermediate and advanced asanas, but not sure where to start or if you have the necessary strength and flexibility to practice them? Following a thorough warm-up, we’ll take the time to investigate correct alignment to practice these postures with integrity, whether going for the full expression of the pose or just placing both hands down in preparation. This is a fun and engaging workshop designed to suit all levels of yoga practitioners, although some experience with yoga is recommended. Come fly with me!
