AUTHOR JONATHAN RABB

Jonathan Rabb, the next author in the Cathy and Morris Bart Jewish Cultural Arts Series, presents Among the Living, his moving novel about a Czech Holocaust survivor’s unconventional journey to a new normal in 1940s Savannah, Georgia. Set during the last gasp of the Jim Crow era in America’s post-war South, the novel deals with questions of identity and belonging, revealing commonalities in the experiences of black and Jewish lives. Get your questions answered at our annual Kindergarten Readiness Forum, presented by the JCC and the Jewish Community Day School of Greater New Orleans. Designed to demystify the kindergarten enrollment process, the forum includes representatives from public and private school realm who will talk about all areas of the process. Topics include the New Orleans Public School OneApp process, faith-based school choices, private school admissions testing, and kindergarten readiness.

COATS FOR KIDS BENEFIT CONCERT

Join us for an incredible evening of music as we once again host Dr. Jee-Yeoun Ko’s annual benefit concert, Coats for Kids, featuring jazz pianist Ellis Marsalis, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, pianist Michael Pellera, Dr. Jee-Yeoun Ko guitarist Javier Olondo, and the Faubourg Quartet. Come early to enjoy special performances by some very talented students in NOCCA’s Classical Instrumental Program, who will perform at the JCC’s front and back entrances beginning at 6:30 PM. While the event is free and open to the community, attendees are asked to bring a new or gently used winter coat to donate. Children’s and adult sizes are both appreciated. Coats will be donated to Firstline Schools, which operates five open enrollment public charter schools in New Orleans. BILL LASCHER

Continuing Cathy and Morris Bart Jewish Cultural Arts Series, author Bill Lascher will shares his book Eve of a Hundred Midnights: The Star-Crossed Love Story of Two WWII Correspondents and Their Epic Escape Across the Pacific.
