MORRIS BART SR., LECTURE SERIES AT THE J “THE MEMORY PROJECT”

In the fall of 2011, Robin Levy’s mother, Anne Skorecki Levy, expressed interest in returning to her birthplace, Lódź, Poland. A World War II survivor, she had not been to Lódź since 1945 and wanted to visit her birthplace with her children and grandchildren. Robin’s immediate and acute concern that her mother would relive painful events from her childhood upon her return provoked her to construct a positive framework for the trip. Robin decided to create a commemorative homecoming event for her mother that would enable Anne to acknowledge her difficult past while engaging with presentday Łódź. Thus began the Memory Project, which brings together creators working in fine arts, literature, cinema, and performance for exhibitions and cultural events that explore the fragile and elusive nature of individual and collective memory. In this presentation, local artist Robin Levy will describe the process she underwent to create a positive, inter-cultural experience in Poland that wove together the collective experiences and traumas of New Orleans and Łódź. Lunch will be served. RSVP by Thursday, October 6 to Rachel Ruth at 897-0143 or rachel@nojcc.org. MONDAY, OCTOBER 10 11:45 AM - 1:30 PM NO CHARGE MEMBERS / $10 NON-MEMBERS NEW ORLEANS JCC – UPTOWN

RSVP by Monday, October 10 to Rachel Ruth at 897-0143 or rachel@nojcc.org. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 13 12:00 - 1:30 PM NO CHARGE MEMBERS & NON-MEMBERS NEW ORLEANS JCC – UPTOWN

This exhibition presents masterpieces spanning five centuries by artists such as Paul Cézanne, David Hockney, Edward Hopper, Gustav Klimt, Claude Monet, Thomas Moran, Georgia O’Keeffe, Gerhard Richter and J.M.W. Turner. We will meet for lunch at Cafe NOMA at noon and then browse the exhibit together. There is no charge for the museum for Louisiana residents.
