JAMES ROWBERRY
I would like to begin by welcoming you all back to Rodney Parade for the final game in our unusual run of five continuous home fixtures.
It has now been over a month since we played away from Rodney Parade and it’s certainly been strange to have such a long period without an away game. We’ve had a busy week what with the game against Forest Green Rovers and it was a fantastic game between two good teams on Tuesday. Once again, the boys showed great resilience and character to match and at times, dominate a good team. Even going down to 10 men the boys dug in and showed characteristics that I really liked. Today will prove to be another competitive game against a team who have had a strong period of form since the turn of the year. Today is another tough test but one we are very much looking forward too. I want to welcome Joey Barton, the technical staff, directors, players and supporters from Bristol Rovers and hope they have a safe journey to and from Rodney Parade. There is plenty of football left to play this season and we must remain focussed on the most important fixture – which is always the next one. We mustn’t get into the mindset of looking too far ahead or dwelling on fixtures that have been and gone. The fans were absolutely brilliant on Tuesday night and I’d like to think they matched our intensity on the pitch from the off which contributed to the great start we made. I’m sure you’ll be here in numbers again today, ready to create another raucous atmosphere that we can feed off and transfer into our performance. Thanks again for your continued fantastic support. Get behind the boys and enjoy the game. James O F F I C I A L M AT C H DAY P R O G R A M M E | 3
AMBER FROM THE ATTIC WITH CHRIS SHINGLER
We travel back to the 1982/83 season this afternoon as we welcome our near neighbours, Bristol Rovers to Rodney Parade and turn the pages of the thirty-pence-priced ‘Amber Note’ to rekindle a few memories from that near-miss season… It was Saturday 9th October 1983 and Tommy Tynan is the featured County cover star; seen in ball-crossing action during a recent 1-0 home win over Lincoln City. However, we had played another home match since that win over the then divisional leaders and boss Colin Addison looks back at the previous Tuesday’s 0-2 loss to Everton in a Milk Cup Second Round (1st leg) tie. The Toffees had in fact taken our unbeaten home record with that win (we drew the second leg at Goodison 2-2) and Colin figured if anyone had to beat us at Somerton, then he would have preferred it had been in a cup competition anyway. The popular gaffer was pleased with the Imps win; even more so given we had played the last twenty minutes of the encounter with just 10 men due to an injury to Steve Lowndes after substitute Kevin Moore had already replaced Karl Elsey. Addo did doff his cap to Everton, who, by his maths, had a team on the pitch worth £1.5m and admitted they had never been troubled and that our players felt ”Disappointed” in the way they played. Colin was pleased to welcome both Lowndes and Kenny Stroud back into the mix for today’s match after injury and illness respectively, and it appeared only Ian Watson (back up gloveman) and the £60,000 misfit midfielder Jeff Johnson (on loan at Gillingham) would not be available for selection. He also just has enough space to mention that our youth team had progressed into the FA Youth cup Third Round at the expense of Gloucester City, the night after the Everton tie, via a 2-0 win. Many names in the Gas squad will be well remembered by fans here today and, as we turn to pages four and five, Rovers are looked at in depth. Players such as Tim Parkin, Aiden McCaffrey, Neil Slatter, Ian Holloway, Nicky Platnauer, Paul Randall and Archie Stephens will certainly

stir a few cells in those memory banks I’d imagine, as will their manager at the time, a certain Mr. Bobby Gould, who of course went onto manage the Welsh national side. They had been in decent form themselves, unbeaten in four and just one defeat in five, and that was against pacesetters Lincoln. Indeed, their only other loss had an uncharacteristic 1-5 beating at Brentford on the opening day. As ever, editor Richard Shepherd was along next with his ‘Inside Somerton’ pages and, as always, there were plenty of snippets for us fans to drool over. Up first was the news that Lincoln had ex p e r i e n c e d such an injur y crisis the previous week, they had played reserve team ‘keeper Stuart N ay l o r u p front against u s ! N ew s also that our squad had used the same London hotel a few weeks

previous as Hereford United for a pre-match meal and had bumped into our former No.1 Gary Plumley, who was then on non-contract terms at Edgar Street. There had been a resounding 9-2 win for our supporters’ team in their Southern Supporters League match; a few names there are familiar to me in Andre Campbell, Colin Everett, Charlie Brittain and Richard Bosustow. The other Rich rounds off the brace of pages by noting the signing of a young 14-year-old lad from Lewis Boys School, Pengam in Grant Cushion on schoolboy forms. Another youngster is featured overleaf in apprentice Ceri Williams. Tonyfrefail-born Ceri, who had captained the youth lads in that Gloucester match, then lived in lodgings with another apprentice named Billy Fleming on Chepstow Road. Ceri, or “Georgie” as he was known, had in fact already tasted a smidgen of first-team action against a Bristol club, as he had netted during our excellent Football League Trophy win in August during a 4-1 success over Bristol City at Ashton Gate. Ceri also featured in our Milk Cup First Round (6-0) hammering of Exeter City and was apparently in awe of a Manchester United reserve side who had flattened us 0-6 at Somerton in a recent friendly. He said: “We were chasing shadows throughout the game, and it makes you think to see what kind of standards young players like that can get to!” In ‘Look Back in Amber’ we travelled back to the opening game of the 1960/61 season and acknowledge the debut of Granville Smith, a summer signing from Bristol Rovers. The 23-year-old Granny’s signing had almost gone unnoticed as, at the time, the club were perusing the “glamour” signature of former Swansea, Aston Villa, Sunderland, Cardiff and Wales centre-forward Trevor Ford from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven. Ford indeed was signed for £1,000, but it was an injury-hit spell and he left after just nine league and cup appearances and only a trio of goals for us. Granville by far was the better signing, notching up 43 goals in 277 matches whilst bedecked in amber. Two of those strikes were against the prized scalp of Pat Jennings no less; the Northern Ireland, Arsenal and Tottenham legend was with Watford at the time (December 1963) whom we had dispatched 2-0 in an FA Cup tie at Somerton. That debut for Granny, by the way, was an exciting 5-2 opening-day win over Reading where Jimmy Singer (3), Ces Dixon and Ken McPherson scored the goals as County got off to a flyer. We had been 0-2 down after six minutes too! In ‘Dateline 3’ we find a round-up of news from our Third Division rivals and learn that Bradford City’s player manager, the former Derby and England defender Roy McFarland had been sent off during his side’s 1-4
defeat at Eastville, then home of course to Rovers. Our future player-manager, Jimmy Mullen had been on target for Cardiff City in their 2-2 draw at Oxford United. One snippet that catches the eye was the tale of Kerry Dixon, the prolific Reading striker, who had scored four goals in the Royals’ astonishing 5-7 defeat at Doncaster Rovers a few weeks previously, before notching two more at Elm Park in another 2-3 loss! Reading had slumped to the foot of the table and in that Preston match had recorded their lowest ever attendance of 1,713. So, onto this Rovers match then, and we were back on form after that Everton loss with a fine 2-0 win that could and should have been far more emphatic. Goals in each half from Nigel Vaughan and Tommy Tynan sent the Pirates back over the bridge pointless. Much has been written concerning our end-of-season collapse to finish in 4th spot, so we won’t dwell on that this time around, thankfully! Rovers ended the season in a comfortable 8th position.
Teams: County: Mark Kendall, Vaughan Jones, John Relish, Neil Bailey, Keith Oakes, Kenny Stroud, Steve Lowndes, John Aldridge, Tommy Tynan, Nigel Vaughan, Karl Elsey. Sub: Dave Gwyther. Rovers (as printed): Phil Kite, Neil Slatter, Brian Williams, Geraint Williams, Tim Parkin, Aiden McCaffery, Ian Holloway, David Williams, Errington Kelley, Paul Randall, Mickey Barrett. Giving Football Back to Small Business At eBay, we know small business and football clubs used to be like chips and gravy, two peas in a pod – a match made in community heaven. Ironmongers, ship workers, spring makers and cobblers, all formed clubs which decades later are still prospering. But nowadays, you’d think it was all eyewatering transfers, Super Leagues and mega sponsors, detached from the humble origins of our historic clubs.
That’s why eBay are proud to support 300,000 small businesses who help power EFL clubs nationwide. We’ll be donating our advertising space to a lot of these businesses – on match day hoardings, around grounds and beyond – throughout the coming season, to ensure they can continue to thrive in our local communities. So, join us in giving your support to Small Business Power, because today, they need us more than ever.

BOARDROOM A warm welcome to all the Directors, Players and Officials of Bristol Rovers for this afternoon’s EFL League Two home fixture. We are delighted to welcome Rogerstone Rangers as our club of the day. They are one of Newport’s largest and most-respected clubs who offer children of all ages access to organised football. Everyone at the club hopes you have a great day! Our charity of the Day is Barnardo’s Cymru. Last year they worked with over 10,000 children and families in Wales. According to some estimates as many as 1 in 10 children or young people in Wales have a caring role. Barnardo’s Young Carers are aged between 8 to 25 and look after a family member with an illness or disability. These young people are the silent superheroes and often go unrecognised so it’s great for us to welcome them here today. You can find out more from having a chat to them in the Marquee today or by looking at www.barnardos.org.uk. It is International Women’s Day on Tuesday 8th March and to mark this occasion we are today joined by Her Game Too founders Caz May and Lucy Ford. In addition, we welcome a number of our female local politicians, Council Leader Jane Mudd, MP Jessica Morden, MP Ruth Jones, and MS Jayne Bryant along with Caitlin Bennett and Izzy Perry. Her Game Too is a partner of the club and has been since August 2021. This a great campaign and we are delighted to
be able to partner with them. Supporters would have seen the launch of our annual walk for dementia in partnership with Newport Live and Alzheimer’s society Cymru. Covid has previously prevented a physical gathering event and this year will be the first occasion we will be able to meet in person. The event is on Sunday 24th April. It would be wonderful if the event can be supported by as many of you as possible. It is a light 3km walk, at your own pace and great event for all the family. You can find out more about it on our social media channels. Tuesday’s game against FGR had an electric atmosphere starting with the pre-match activity. This is something we will look to do again at our evening games. I must also mention how proud the club were with the solidarity supporters showed with Ukraine. Our thanks to everyone! Final comment must go to Joe Crocker one of our directors who stepped in to be the match announcer at the game on Tuesday, as Tim Thraves had a wellearned break. Joe was excellent and our thanks go to him. Good luck to the lads this afternoon and thank you for the continued support. Gavin

SO WHERE TO BEGIN? I guess, “Hello” is a good place to start.
W
e might have met before. Some of you I’ve met personally being a local boy, Newport born and bred, and a DJ in many of your favourite bars, pubs, and clubs over the last 30 years. For the past 14 years I’ve been the very proud leader of a community project called Newport City Radio. We’re the ones that make some noise with the ‘Warm Up’ in the marquee during almost every home game of the season (we almost missed Boxing Day, but in our defence we’re all volunteers and Christmas is a special family time). Once again, this year, we have provided a much-needed stage for local musicians to play on. They are immensely grateful for this opportunity. We’ve also had fun with the visiting youth teams and schools as they’ve asked County
players those difficult questions that young people without filters can, and they’ve become radio stars as the read out the team news. We we’re delighted to find out that on a recent visit by the EFL, that this is recognised as a highly positive part of the matchday experience. We just love it! You might have also lent us your ears as you listen to our regular radio show and podcast ‘Look back in amber’. Since December we have been the entrusted to be our clubs official podcast provider. Hopefully you’ve listed to and enjoyed our chats to James, Gavin, Darren, and most recently Joe Day. In our non-league days, before Ifollow and Exiles Player we were the home of live commentary, featuring the one and only Tim Thraves! Over many years it’s been our privilege to interview many people supporting good causes on a Saturday afternoon or Tuesday evening. We probably have forgot to mention that we are a not for profit too, helping Newport people gain confidence and skills. We keep our costs low and try our best to make our city a brighter happier place. We thank the club for the opportunities they provide, but no money changes hands for what we do. This is why I’d like to ask you to give generously this Saturday as we get out buckets out and ask for donations. Commercially, it costs us £5550 to do the ‘Warm Up’ in the marquee and £8250 to create, produce, host and promote ‘Look back in amber’. Every penny counts and the majority of funds raised stay in Newport for the benefit of Newport (we still have to pay taxes, streaming costs etc) If you can’t donate on the day, please type ‘local giving’ into a search engine and look for Newport City Radio. If you pay UK tax, then you should be able to use gift aid too! As always, I’d love your feedback. I am happy to answer any questions about what we do for our community. Please contact me on Facebook, twitter or email ian.lamsdale@newportcityradio.org Ian (aka Lamsie)

EXILES COMMU County in the Community / BBC Children in Need
February half term Fit & Fed Fit and Fed has an aim of tackling physical inactivity and holiday hunger during the half term periods. In addition to this, also providing a safe place for young people to socialise, meet new friends, try new things, and realise their potential. This February half term, CitC delivered a three day Fit & Fed camp at Alway Centre where young people took part in FREE physical activity and sports sessions. Young people also received nutritious meals on each day they attended that included sandwiches and building their own healthy wraps along with fruit, cereals and other foods. We are delighted to be working with BBC Children in Need who have committed to funding this provision over the next three

years. This provision will not only tackle the issues young people face during half terms, but it will also instil good standards and values, provide positive role models and support young people in making more positive choices in their everyday life. We would also like to thank Danielle, Community Champion at Tesco Spytty for her continued support with our food provision. Fit and Fed is having a huge impact already and provided over 200 meals and 9 hours of physical activity to 76 young people during the February half term. UNITY CORNER SOCCER CAMPS
Over the course of February half term, we were delighted to welcome over 100 boys and girls to our soccer camps at Llanwern High school. With the threat of bad weather, it was great to see so many children in attendance and braving the strong winds and rain. Throughout the days the children had the opportunity to participate in various football activities followed by football tournaments to complete the day, giving the boys and girls a chance to express their ability and most importantly have fun. We were delighted to be joined by the Newport County AFC Academy scholars at the end of each day. The scholars had the chance to engage with the participants at the camps by providing advice to the young children and answer the many questions asked by the children. It was great to see the children faces
when the scholars arrived, it gives the children a chance to see the future NCAFC stars and give them the hunger to become a NCAFC scholar in the future. Along with the NCAFC scholars, On the final day we were very fortunate to be joined by NCAFC first team Manager James Rowberry, Goalkeepers Joe Day, Nick Townsend and first team Goalkeeper Coach Jim Hollman. Once again this is a great experience for the children who had the chance to meet some of their hero’s and ask questions around their lifestyle and their jobs. We would like to thank everyone who attended the camp over the week. Our next camp will be in Easter Half term, keep an eye out across our social media channels for all the information or check the link below for when the dates are released which will be closer to the half term.

S' TRUST?
The Newport County AFC Supporters' Trust is one of more than 140 Supporters' Trusts that exist under the umbrella of Supporters' Direct, a national body that provides assistance to supporters "who wish to play a responsible part in the life of the football club they support". The Trust was originally formed in 2001 and took a controlling stake in the football club in October 2015 following a community share issue which saw County supporters raise a magnificent £236,000 in just a month. Since then, Newport County AFC has been a supporter-owned, community-based club. The primary purpose of the Trust is to provide funding to the club. Our aim is to donate at least £100,000 a season to the club. As well as being owners of an EFL club, Trust members receive a range of benefits depending on their membership tier. All members have guaranteed priority tickets for cup matches. More details about the Trust can be found on our website: www.ncafctrust.org
HOW CAN YOU
PTHETR

The membership packages are as follows... Bronze: £5 a month; Silver: £10 a month; Gold: £20 a month; Platinum: £50+ a month. Corporate membership is available at £1,000 a year or £600 for six months. It won't cost you a penny extra. Just start your online shopping first at www.eosyfundraising.org.uk/causes/ncafctrus t/, then shop as normal. Retailers will then make a small donation to say 'thank you'. There are more than 3,200 retailers to choose from and so far this scheme hos raised almost £18,500 for the Trust.
The Board of the Supporters' Trust currently consists of eight elected directors and two coopted directors. As the Trust is the majority shareholder in the club, all Trust directors ore also registered with the Football League as directors of the club having passed the EFL's Owners and Directors Test.
VOLUNTEER: The Trust and the Club appreciates the many outstanding volunteers who give up their time to help in a variety of ways. If you have the time and skills you think could benefit the club, then please email info@ncafctrust.org

In May 2021, 12 girls formed a Twitter group chat all united in the decision that enough was enough.
W
e wanted to shout from the rooftops that football is Her Game Too. Facing social media hate, sexist heckels in pubs, misogynistic chants and “footy banter” from thousands of people in football stadiums across the country all for being a female who enjoys football is incomprehensible. We aimed to raise awareness and the 12 of us put ourselves in the firing line in the hopes of sparking conversation. Caz May (Her Game Too founder) had the idea of writing a sexist slur each of us had seen or heard used about women involved in the beautiful game on a piece of paper, record ourselves holding it, edit the clips together and fire it out on Twitter to make a statement. The idea developed; we established a name, a cause and official social media accounts. It was decided we would drop the video at 10am on the day of the FA Cup Final and little did we know what would follow. The hashtag #HerGameToo trended second on Twitter and has now accumulated 1.9m views, 14k retweets, 22.5k likes and our Twitter account has 20.5k followers. That was just the start. We had high hopes but could never have anticipated the support that would follow. Newport County AFC partnered with Her Game Too on August 16, 2021 with the club

being extremely proactive in ensuring the message was adopted and shared. On the launch of the partnership, Newport County AFC EDI Director Colin Faulkner said: We’re trying to build a safe environment for everyone to attend games at Rodney Parade and we have a large following of female supporters of all ages, so we are excited to be partnering with Her Game Too. “It was great to see some of our supporters included in the initial video to highlight the issue and some of the findings in the subsequent survey are shocking. We encourage attendance from females of all ages and therefore, as part of this agreement, will be providing tickets for girls and women to sample games for the first time. “We ask for anyone witnessing any discriminatory behaviour at our games to report this so we can work together on an accepting environment for everyone. The club has a zerotolerance stance on any kind of discrimination.” Following a 17-month break from football for supporters around the world, the Amber Army was welcomed back to Rodney Parade on August 25, the same day the Her Game Too logo was displayed on a perimeter board around the pitch as a show of permanence and solidarity. In celebration of International Women’s Day 2022, we highlight the importance of this

campaign. A female’s place in a pub, on the pitch, on the sidelines, in the terraces or on social media should not be questioned. The game is for all to enjoy. Today’s fixture is dedicated to IWD and Her Game Too in recognition that things must change and the incredible job everyone involved with the campaign is doing to ensure this change comes about. Her Game Too co-founder and life-long Newport County AFC fan Izzy Perry said: “Throughout the years of supporting Newport County, I have experienced numerous accounts of sexism both at the games and online. Although those comments are less frequent now, I feel as though our campaign ‘Her Game Too’ is needed to create a safe space for females to feel like they won’t be judged for their passion of the sport and their opinions.” Additionally, Newport supporter Jane Brussalis said: “Born and bred in Newport, I was first taken to a game in the ‘72 season by my late dad so it’s in the blood. We took my three children from a young age and we haven’t missed a game home or away since the 2017/18 season (COVID aside). I’ve had comments as I’ve got older like “have you lost your way to the kitchen?”, “shall I explain the offside rule?”, "have you come to look at the players legs?” and lately “have your kids dragged you along?”
Exiles fan Esme Faulkner also added: “I have been following the County since 2016 as a family with my husband and two sons. I must say I have always been embraced by my fellow supporters and never once felt uncomfortable or received any unwanted sexism. I have always felt a part of Newport County and our club goes above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome. Another supporter added: “I love supporting Newport because the club is very inclusive. At games I stand with my two friends, who are also female fans. All three of us feel safe and happy at games - without worry of experiencing any form of sexism. The club is a home for everyone, and with so many different campaigns and organised events, it’s a no brainer that I’d support a club that cares about the fans in the way Newport does. When Newport joined with Her Game Too, I was thrilled as I know many female fans across the 92 don’t have such a carefree experience at football as I have, and I believe everyone should feel the same way as I do at Newport and Rodney Parade.” As Her Game Too co-founder and life-long Exiles fan myself, the support the club and fans have shown towards this campaign fills me with pride and we will continue.

THE HISTORY: The club was formed following a meeting at the Eastville Restaurant in Bristol in September 1883 where they were formally named Eastville Rovers in 1884. At the beginning of the 1897-98 season, the club turned professional and changed its name to Bristol Eastville Rovers and on 17 February 1899 the name was officially changed to Bristol Rovers In 1899 Bristol Rovers joined the newly formed Southern League where they remained until 1920, winning the league title along the way in 1905. For the 1920–21 season, the Southern League teams 3 6 | O F F I C I A L M AT C H DAY P R O G R A M M E
were moved into the new Division Three of the Football League, which became Division Three (South) the following season. They remained in this division for over 30 years, before winning the league, and promotion in the 1952–53 season. The team has won promotion on five other occasions: in 1973–74 from the Third Division to the Second Division, again in 1989–90 as Division Three champions, in 2006–07 to the Football League One, in 2014–15 to League Two from the Conference Premier, and then in 2015–16 to League One. The club has been relegated seven times—in 1961–62, 1980–81, 1992–93, 2000–01, 2010–11, 2013-14 and most recently at the end of the 2020-21 season.
RECENT HISTORY: During the 2019-20 Covid interrupted season, Bristol Rovers were competing in League One where they finished 14th. The Rovers started the season poorly going winless in their first three games. However, their form picked up and they finally got their season off and running against Tranmere Rovers in a comprehensive 2-0 victory before a very impressive 3-1 demolition of Oxford United. They continued to climb the table after having an unbeaten September and November with Rovers picking up some very impressive results. However, their season began to hit the rocks in December after an extremely impressive comeback victory against Southend United. With the Gasheads 2-0 down at half-time, Rovers managed to turn their fortunes around to win 4-2 before picking up three points at promotion contenders Ipswich Town only a few days later. However, their victory was overshadowed by rumours that manager Graham Coughlan was looking to leave
W W W. N E W P O RT- C O U N T Y. C O. U K
the club. These rumours appeared to be true when Rovers issued a statement saying that the club had allowed Coughlan to discuss a contract with Mansfield Town; He joined the Stags a few days later and was replaced by Ben Garner after small caretaker spells by Joe Dunne and Kevin Maher. The hope was that Rovers would be able to continue their form under Garner as they did under Coughlan. This was not the case though as it took until Garner's twelfth game to be able to pick up their first three points as they saw their position in the table slide. Their season then came to a halt in March 2020 where they lay in 14th, a disappointing position after earlier success. After football finally resumed in September 2020, Bristol Rovers kicked off their season with a draw away to promotion favourites Sunderland with plans of lowering the average age and wage bill of the squad and recruiting some promising talents. Garner was hoping that his changes would benefit the clubs position on the pitch as well as off it. Once again though this was not the case as after eleven games and only three wins Ben Garner was subsequently sacked and replaced by Paul Tisdale. His aim was to steer Rovers back into contention with the teams in the top-half of the table. Despite not winning in his first three games it looked like the Gashead’s were finding some momentum after picking up back-to-back wins against AFC Wimbledon and Plymouth Argyle. A bad run of form came in the new year and resulted in Tisdale’s two and a half year contract being cut short after less than three months in charge and only twelve points from his fifteen games as Rovers sat only above the drop zone on goal difference. He was replaced by former Manchester City and Marseille midfielder Joey Barton just over a month after being sacked by Fleetwood Town. Barton picked up his first against Portsmouth and although performances looked to be on the mend, inconsistency set in. In the sixteen games that Barton was in charge of during the 2020-21 season, the Gashead’s won only two games and lost twelve as they ended a disappointing season by finishing bottom of the table and were relegated to League Two.
THE STORY SO FAR: It was clear that after the disappointment of the previous season, a huge summer was needed for Bristol Rovers to get themselves back in League One.
Barton was clear in what areas he needed to strengthen and recruited well bringing in experienced players such as Leon Clarke and Glenn Whelan along with bright young prospects such as Anthony Evans, Connor Taylor and Elliot Anderson. With the amount of fresh faces in the squad, Bristol Rovers were expected to make a strong start to the season. However, it didn’t quite go to plan. Rovers only picked up one win in their first five games of the season, losing three. However, as the new faces began to gel, their form started to improve as they picked up some important wins against Carlisle and Walsall. As the season progressed and the winter months approached, a mix of results were being picked up but a Covid-19 outbreak in the squad hindered their progress as they had four games postponed over the Christmas period. They turned what looked to be a negative into a positive after they came back from their postponements going five games unbeaten to start the year. Despite most players being fairly consistent, some have stood out. One of which being young attacking midfielder, Anthony Evans. In his 24 appearances this campaign, Evans has picked up seven goals and even assists and has been Rovers’ highest rated player. He was picked up by the club in the summer from German side SC Paderborn. Despite his struggles abroad and on loan at Crewe Alexander it’s obvious that Evans is flourishing under Barton’s system and has linked up with top scorer Aaron Collins who has scored eight goals this season. The use of the loan market has also helped bolster their squad as loan signings Elliot Anderson and Connor Taylor have both put in impressive performances this season. Taylor has been ever present at the back for Rovers and has looked very composed despite this being his first season at such a high level. Despite currently sitting ninth in the table, Rovers’ recent form has been amongst the best., in fact they head the current form guide table over the past six league games. In the past ten games, they have picked up twenty one points (only Mansfield and Exeter have scored more) and in the previous five appearances only Exeter have won more games. Therefore, with their games in hand on opponents above and their current purple patch of form, Rovers are certainly play-off contenders.
