Real Wedding

Alisa & Steve

August 7, 2021

Alisa Loughlin and Steve Enright like to take things slow. True, they did move to Virginia just 10 months into their relationship, but when it came to marriage, neither was in a hurry. The two met on a summer night in Newport in 2014 but didn’t get engaged until December 2019. “The Christmas Steve proposed, I joked that I either wanted him to get me a pair of Athleta leggings or a diamond,” Alisa says. “Either would have been fi ne he ring he proffered was better than fi ne, with its diamond fl anked by two sapphires in memory of Alisa’s beloved grandmother, whose birthstone was the sapphire. The couple enjoyed a leisurely -month engagement before fi nally tying the knot at Portsmouth’s Glen Manor House.

No Place Like Home

Alisa, who grew up in Portsmouth, attended a wedding at Glen Manor House when she was in sixth grade and decided then and there (perhaps on a sugar high from a dozen or so Shirley Temples, she confesses) that she’d have her own wedding at Glen Manor one day. The stately house and manicured grounds were perfect for the kind of wedding she and Steve envisioned. “We wanted it to feel like the classiest dinner party our guests had ever attended,” Alisa says. With help from Exquisite Events, the couple created an elegant setting with strings of miniature lights glimmering above outdoor seating arrangements that promoted camaraderie and conversation. Centerpieces of candle clusters surrounded by fragrant eucalyptus cast a pretty glow on tables set with classic gold-trimmed white plates and mini bottles of champagne that served as favors.

Her bridesmaids wore black gowns that each woman chose for herself, while the groom and his groomsmen donned classic black suits with white shirts and black neckties o sa e money on fl orals, the couple opted for silk bouquets. Their 8-pound pup, Donny, served as ring bearer, accompanied (rather comically) by their 7-foot-tall friend, Pat. In actuality, Pat is the one who held the rings because, Alisa says, e lo e onny, but we don t trust him

Where Are They Now?

After a “minimoon” of several relaxing days on Block Island, the couple returned to their Virginia home, where Alisa works in college admissions and teaches yoga, and Steve is head coach of men’s basketball at a local college. — Paula M. Bodah
