NNS to Go App Available in the Google Play and Apple App Stores The NNS to Go app is available for download in the Google Play and Apple iOS app stores. Developed by the Communications Division, the app is designed to give users convenient, around the clock access to company news, employee resources, photos, videos, classifieds and more. The app is also a great resource for information regarding shipyard operations. In the event of inclement weather or during an emergency situation, updates will be posted to the app. If enabled by the user, the app is also capable of sending push notifications to mobile devices to alert users of a change in status to operations. Apprentice Jessica Martin downloaded NNS to Go and uses it on a daily basis. “The app is an effective and timely way for me to receive information from the company, especially when it comes to important notices and reminders,” she said.

As the old adage goes, “To be the best, you must learn from the best.” Last week, more than 30 structural craft leaders from Portsmouth, Norfolk, Puget Sound and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyards came together at Newport News Shipbuilding to discuss best practices with the NNS community, develop relationships and drive future innovations across the industry. “It’s pretty cool to have four shipyards and a private shipbuilding yard acting as a corporation to serve the country’s defense rather than acting as a group of competitors,” said Portsmouth Nuclear Director Harry Knox. Navy maintenance yards have always shared best practices, but NNS started participating in Community of Practice events in 2014. “You’re only as good as what you know,” said X11 Trades Director Joe Sabol, who orchestrated the visit with X18 Trades Director Gary Fuller. “We need other perspectives, and we also want other yards to see what our shipbuilders are capable of doing.”

The app is available for public download and can be found in the app stores by searching “NNS to Go.”
