Meet NX:

NNS Rolls Out New Design Software Newport News Shipbuilding is transitioning to a new computer-aided design (CAD) system called NX, to be used across many NNS programs. The new tool will replace the legacy system CATIA, which has reached its end of life. “Our company has a strategic vision moving us toward a digital shipbuilding environment,” said Jennifer Boykin, vice president of Engineering and Design. “We have chosen Teamcenter/NX because its capabilities are a cornerstone for this transition.” In August, the CVN 78 Construction Program will be the first to make the transition, beginning with migration of the Ford 3-D product model from CATIA. Approximately seven terabytes of data will be migrated. More than 80 work methods are being updated, and over 800 people are being trained. The training effort is so large, the shipyard partnered with Thomas Nelson Community College and Old Dominion University to help with basic training.
