NNS Kicks Off Annual Holiday Food Drive Newport News Shipbuilding’s annual Holiday Food Drive to benefit the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank (VPF) kicked off today and will run through Friday, Dec. 16. The “Shipbuilders Caring and Sharing” campaign will collect canned food items to assist the foodbank in meeting the needs of local communities this holiday season. VPF serves the areas of Newport News, Hampton, Williamsburg, Matthews, Gloucester, York, James City, Surry and Poquoson. Food drive facilitators have placed labeled collection boxes inside designated NNS buildings, warehouses and at piers, docks and trailers (first floor locations only). Coordinator and box locations are available on Yardnet. The Foodbank accepts all non-perishable food donations in non-glass containers. Canned items that are most needed include: meat, fish and protein (tuna, ham or chicken, beef stew, chili, peanut butter and canned/ dried beans); fruits and vegetables (100 percent fruit juice, instant potatoes and fruit preserves); complete meals (pasta and sauce, boxed meals and hearty vegetable soups); and grains (cereal and rice 2# bag/box or under).

Employees now have the option to make an electronic monetary donation to the campaign by visiting www.hrfoodbank.org/shipyardfeeds. For every dollar donated, the Peninsula Foodbank will be able to provide four meals. Monotary donations by cash or check (checks made payable to the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank) can be delivered to Judy Fundak (K18) in Bldg. 520-1. All monetary donations will be credited to the donor’s department and must be received by 4 p.m. on Dec. 16. For questions, contact Judy at 380-3011. HII Forms New Technical Solutions Division On Friday, Dec. 2, Huntington Ingalls Industries announced that it has completed its previously announced acquisition of Camber Corporation and formed a new operating division, HII Technical Solutions. The new division will be led by Andy Green, who will serve as an executive vice president of HII and president of HII Technical Solutions, reporting directly to HII President and CEO Mike Petters. “The acquisition of Camber and the consolidation of our existing service businesses into a dedicated division provides the breadth and scale necessary to successfully pursue numerous growth opportunities,” Petters said. “Camber brings a broad array of capabilities to the HII team, and we are excited about the possibilities of growing the combined businesses.
