BEST COLLEGE

Kilgore College

100 Broadway Blvd., Kilgore 903-984-8531

Kilgore College Longview 300 S. High - Longview 903-984-8531

Kilgore College was founded in 1935 at the height of the oil boom with 11 faculty members and 229 students. In the fall of 2015 over 5,000 students will attend classes here. The college began as a two-year college for university bound students. However, many changes have been made throughout the years. One of the most significant changes took place in 1939. Dean B. E. Masters had a brilliant idea designed to attract more women to attend Kilgore College. His intent was to equalize the men and women enrollment population. This was the beginning of something that would cause the world to become familiar with Kilgore College. It was the year

the world famous dance team, the Rangerettes, debuted. In addition, throughout the years, the college has enhanced studies in such fields as nursing and agriculture. For students who want to pursue certificate programs, the college expanded their curricular to continuing education programs. It is evident that Kilgore College has more to offer the students and community than academics only. A multitude of programs including arts and entertainment in the form of plays, including the Shakespeare Festival, musical ensembles, The Flaire newspaper, athletic events and, of course, the East Texas Oil Museum. Kilgore College is Longview News Journal readers No. 1 choice for Best of East Texas College.
