PHOTO COURTESY OF DAWSON DEAL During her three years there, she served in numerous leadership roles including president of the student government. “The environment helped me mature,” she says. “I learned to work with people of all ages and backgrounds, together as one team.” At Johns Hopkins, she is on a path to graduate in 2025, with a bachelor’s degree, majoring in public health with a minor in philosophy, “which should be an interesting course set,” she says. Later, she’ll consider a master’s degree but “I’m definitely applying to medical school. I would like to do either trauma or emergency medicine, then disaster management.” Dawson Deal’s path of passion has followed public service. During his career at Reed High School in Sparks, “Being involved in student leadership helped me find myself and what I wanted to do,” he says. So far, Deal has served as student body president three years running, and Western Region Representative for the Nevada Association of Student Councils.

“It was definitely the connections with the teachers and leadership advisors that really got me going.”
