2018 Survivor Speaker
Veoletta "Vee" Trice Meet Veoletta “Vee” Trice, a breast cancer survivor, who has been traveling her survivorship journey for the past year and half. As part of her journey, Vee has utilized the Norton Cancer Institute Pat Harrison Resource Center. “Life since being diagnosed with this disease, has not been without a plethora of challenges and uncertainties,” said Trice. Make no mistake, she said, when you hear the word cancer as a part of your diagnosis, it can take the wind out of your sail. But when Trice looks back over the last year and half, she chooses to see her cancer as a blessing because of all the good she feels has come her way as a result of it. Thank you Vee for sharing your story with us this evening.

Power of Pink Poem
The Power of Pink By Norma O. Robbins, August 2014 Breast cancer survivor since 1993 First we see the word “Power,” Followed by the word “Pink.” How do our minds absorb it all, And what must we really think?
There’s just no way it is easy, Giving up is sure not a choice. Be grateful for each coming day, Listen, and hear your own voice!
Suddenly there’s a “Butterfly” That visibly floats alongside. Is there a need to understand, Or is it just there for the ride?
We thank those who surround us, For love and support they extend. Knowing they will always be there, Even though we may face the end.
There are many, many thousands That cancer has managed to find, Some are very blessed to survive, But others have no light to shine.
On that thought we dare not dwell, Our fight must always stay strong. All our prayers are for better days, When we smile and sing our song.
So we grab onto the struggle For a strong and faithful fight, While God is right beside us, Ensuring our spirit stays bright.
Grateful are we for “The Power of Pink” And the sweet image of “butterflies.” The sponsor’s purpose sought and gained, Gives us COURAGE that never dies.
We reach out to do our best, For all who may become weak. Convincing them to continue on Toward strength they need to seek.

Power of Pink
Survivors’ Painting Nights Each year, in advance of the Gala, the Power of Pink also hosts two Survivor Painting Nights where breast cancer survivors gather at Silica Ceramic Studio in Jeffersonville to enjoy creating artistic pieces of individual pottery while enjoying fellowship and refreshments with other survivors. This year, they painted tiles, which will be on display at the Power of Pink Gala. They are absolutely beautiful!
Thanks to the generous support of our Survivor Painting Night Sponsors, Ivy Tech Community College, Semonin Realtors, Stemler Corporation and WesBanco, each survivor who painted a tile will be able to take it home after the Gala! Additional funds raised from this evening will benefit the Norton Cancer Institute Pat Harrison Resource Center through the Power of Pink.
Thank you to Silica for donating their studio and time for this very special event.
