r a e Y t s F ir ns o i t p Your first year at Parsons introduces you to a community of peers with whom you collaborate and develop skills, a critical perspective, and an art or design practice. Parsons offers you flexibility in choosing a study path. You can begin your undergraduate studies in the Foundation program, which offers a broad range of approaches to art and design. Or, if you’re interested in one of the following majors, you can enter a special first-year track that lets you begin studies in your field right away: design and management, design and technology, environmental studies, photography, and urban design. You can switch majors in your sophomore year after an academic review, regardless of what you chose as your first-year program. All first-year options include a significant liberal arts component, including courses in art and design history and theory, that helps you develop research, writing, and critical reasoning skills to strengthen your studio practice.
