Bothplaidandthephysicalmakeupofawovenfabricrepresentconnectionsandtransitions.Thisprojecthighlightsthesesemioticsatadeeperlevel,callingoutmydocumentedfamily relationshipsandquestioningthetransitionofgenerationsastheseimagesareinterpretedinmoresubtleandgraphicways.Throughresearchandmaterialityexploration,thisproject showcases“inlaying”theimagesthroughhand-wovenplaidsandotherhand-wovenrenderingsoftheoriginalphotographswithcarefulconsiderationoflocallysourced,andinsome cases,recycledmaterials. Althoughmanycolorsandfabricchoiceswereadirectresponsetotheclothesworninthearchivedimages,silhouetteoutcomeswereprimarilyaresultofthe relaxedmoodofthephotosaswellas‘90smusicandfashioninspirations,creatingamorecontemporaryfeelandhighlycomfortable,gender-neutralgarments.
