St. Pete Gets a Taste of Venice, Italy

Information from St. Pete Catalyst

For those in the St. Pete area looking for a new pasta spot with fresh, classically Italian choices, you may have just found your new go-to. DalMoros Fresh Pasta To Go finds itself in St. Pete thanks to Florida native David Caruso.

Originally opened in 2012, the Venice-born restaurant was started by seventh-generation Venetian Gabriele Dal Moro. Now, the St. Pete location is the first to open within the United States. The restaurant first opened its doors in late May of this year at 653 Central Avenue. When Sarasota-based Caruso first learned of DalMoros, he and his father booked a trip to Venice in order to see the store themselves before investing in the idea further. “The majority of people in their restaurant were American tourists, so they felt America was this spot for them to open up, and we were the door to help do that,” Caruso told the St. Pete Catalyst.

With little to no restaurant experience, Caruso dove head-first into the venture, hoping for the best, and soon he was met with many complications due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With expenses accruing and the timeline crumbling, the future seemed dim. “It got to the point where we had to accept delays, and instead of rushing to the finish line to just open, we paused and took a step back. We can only open our doors one time,” Caruso told Catalyst.

Although he experienced hiccups during setup, business is currently booming for DalMoros. Caruso is looking to add more workers to the payroll, signifying a profitable future. The restaurant serves made-from-scratch pasta and eight homemade sauces (with an occasional seasonal featured sauce) in to-go-style packaging. DalMoros focuses on fresh, healthy and preservative-free food made fresh for each customer.
