King of the Castle makes a splash for 2016 Framing the flume The flume which used to be located soley in the building, has begun its transition to the outdoors in the shape of a tower. The new flume will give users an interactive experience from start to finish, through themes and a countdown, push pads along the slide, concluding with a score at the end and a flume picture. Follow the flume’s construction progress in future newsletters.
The Magna Carta splash area is starting to take shape. Work on the splash area has stepped up a gear in recent weeks, with the design really coming to life thanks to Van Egdom. Using the history of the Magna Carta as inspiration, designer’s visions have now started to take shape - and will allow children to really use their imaginations when becoming King or Queen of the castle. The Magna Carta splash area will start off the ‘family’ swimming experience nicely here at ONE NK, there will now be something for all; from baby to toddler, teenager to adult. The success of the Woodland Splash area at Sleaford Leisure Centre, meant when going into the refurbishment project at ONE NK one had to be considered here as well. Cllr Mrs Marion Brighton OBE said: “As a district council, we have always been committed to
Arts & Leisure, and the physical health and wellbeing of our residents. Not many councils can stand proud to say they are still investing in this industry, but at North Kesteven, especially at this time, these facilities are more essential than ever”. The redevelopment of the centre has so far seen the opening of a new gym, cycling studio and three multi-use studios. The swimming pool and new changing facilities will open again in the Spring, with the Magna Carta splash and new flume.

Cycling Studio and Gym open to the Public Both the Cycling Studio and Gym facilities at ONE NK are now open to the Public. Active users of the Cycling Studio have been raving about the facilities. Coupled with the impressive new kit, they say the bold, striking photography inspires them on bikes which are unique to the area. Malcolm Sanders (72) said the classes were ‘much better, with more space and much improved bikes’ than before the refurbishment. “It’s really energising and will be an undoubted success,” he said. Cycling partner Paul Smith (59) from Thorpe on the Hill anticipates increasing his frequency in the studio. “With the lighting, the music and the pictures surrounding you, the environment is great. It’s a tremendous step forward,” he said.
Instructor Nicki Littlefair is most excited after 18 years leading various classes at the NK Centre. “This is brilliant and the response has been really positive. You can easily lose yourself and feel that you’re at the heart of it all,” she said. The studio was also chosen by the organisers of the Lincoln Festival of Cycling to launch the new event, which now includes more opportunities for amateur and professional participation. The Gym has also been given a new lease of life; going from 32 pieces of equipment to 50 pieces. New MATRIX equipment has been welcomed by users, with all cardio having built in TV’s. Featuring Watt bike’s and TRX frame, the Gym now boasts to include some of the best equipment around. The TRX frame can hold up to 14 people on it, and classes have begun to include this. The Gym has had a huge response since opening, and seen an influx of new members as well as welcoming back those who have been with the centre for a while. Open Mon - Sun, 7am 10pm, 68 classes running per week and four instructors, it is now a more active centre than ever before.
