Book Week across Port Stephens By Rachael VAUGHAN
SCHOOLS across Port Stephens were overflowing with creativity this week, celebrating the annual Book Week, supported nationally by The Children’s Book Council of Australia. Every year, the Children’s Book Council unites children, schools, and libraries in their love for books.
Schools across Port Stephens joined in the celebrations, hosting book parades, ‘rug and read’ activities and book fairs. This year’s theme for book week was ‘Find your treasure’. Local schools got behind the theme, with many pirates and the like being spotted. Worthy of particular mention is the the staff
body at Wirreanda Public School, who had their entire teaching and non-teaching staff list dressed up as pirates. Raymond Terrace resident and local librarian, Elissa Brown, told News Of The Area, “Last week joined children and books together to celebrate Book Week

THE Children’s Cancer Institute’s ‘Build for a Cure’ campaign kicked-off on Monday, which will see an entire house built in just 21 days. Port Stephens’ very own Medowie is the location of this very special house, that will be built in the new ‘Bower Estate’ on Boundary

Road. Build for a Cure aims at building a house in just 21 days, with every single element of the build being donated, and all proceeds from the auction sale of the house being donated to the Children’s Cancer Institute. Building officially began on Monday 27 August, and kicked off in dramatic fashion with camera crews
and local celebrities. House Reveal Day will take place on 16 September, with the Auction winding this special project up on 21 October. News Of The Area met with Medowie business Jason Becker Concreting, who have
