Centre tops the lot By Rachael VAUGHAN

MEDOWIE is the home of one of the highest achieving children’s centres in the Port Stephens Area, and it’s educators are so proud they want to shout it from the rooftops. All children’s services are required to engage in a continuous improvement process. Part of this process involves an Assessment and Rating Visit (every 3 years). Services are then assessed against 7 quality areas of The National Quality Standards. Uniting Early Learning Centre in Medowie were recently assessed. The Authorised Officer was at the centre for a full day, assessing the practices, environments and interactions, and rated the centre against the National Quality Standards. Services are rated as; significant improvement required, working towards National Quality Standard,

Defence Easter

and made their aim for the day to ensure everyone heard about the great things the group, and the community, has to offer.” “By the end of the day everyone was tired but still smiling and very happy with how the community enjoyed the event.” Over 220 members and their families attended the event, with an additional 55-60 stall holders and volunteers also participating in the event activities.

AFTER a week of rain, the weather turned on a beautiful day for the Williamtown Defence Family Group (WDFG) Committee’s Easter Family Day. The WDFG committee’s efforts in planning and pre event preparations paid off as everything ran smoothly on the event day. Vice President of WDFG, Krystal Rowell, told News Of The Area, “The ladies of the group were brimming with enthusiasm,

The raffle held on the day raised $255, which will help the WDFG host the Christmas card making event to be held in July, and and care packages for the deployed project to be held in October. Once inside the event, everything except the raffle tickets were free to Defence families. Families enjoyed the free Hennessy Coffee, fresh Woolworths hot cross buns, snow cones, fairy floss, face painter, mobile video games and inflatable games. Chelsea Rollings played live music, creating a wonderful Sunday afternoon picnic atmosphere. The Easter bunny visited and gave out chocolate eggs to everyone, much to the delight of the smallest attendees. The Salt Ash Rural Fire Brigade set up a fun water display where people could use a real fire hose to knock down mock fire targets. Vanguard and the Rovers Pirates gave battle demonstrations and a historical display about knights. The RAAF Williamtown Cadets were a great help on the day, with helping set up and pack up. During the event, they provided information and ushered everyone towards the fun activities and freebies. At the close of the event, families received an Easter gift of chocolate easter bunnies for the adults and goodie bags, colouring in books and pencils for the children. Krystal said, “We also gave away the decoration inflatable bunnies and sparkly windmills we used to decorate the event to a lucky few.” “It was a wonderful day.” News Of The Area look forward to sharing the upcoming important events that will be organised by WDFG in support of our local troops currently serving overseas.

Love Festival By Rachael VAUGHAN

JAMES Road was the talk of Medowie this month, with the picturesque garden wedding of Christy Archer and Nordon Mcleod. The front yard of Christy Archer ’s parents home in James Road undertook a breathtaking transformation over two days, with many interested locals speculating excitedly about what the finished event would look like. They were not disappointed, with the family home coming to life in a whimsical, vintage wedding full of warm lighting, timeless decorating and sweet little touches across the event, which was styled to perfection. Their wedding was planned down to the very last, thoughtful, heartfelt detail from polaroid photo stations, to gifts of thongs for their guests to be able to dance the night away in comfort. Almost every piece and every little detail of the wedding was handmade by the couple, their family or friends. Named the ‘Magical Wedding Love Festival’ by the couple and their friends,

the day and evening certainly lived up to its namesake. Bride Christy told News Of The Area, “It was just magical love-filled day and we enjoyed absolutely every second of the day spent with our gorgeous family and friends.” The couple were married

Little A’s State Champs By Rachael VAUGHAN

MEDOWIE Little Athletics have had one of their most successful years to date in the 2017-2018 season. Their base at Medowie’s Kindlebark Oval has received a muchneeded facelift recently, making it one of the best facilities in the local area for Little Athletics Clubs.. The number of children joining the club has increased yet again and the heights that some of our local athletes have been able to reach this season have been very impressive. On that note, allow us to introduced to you three very talented members of the Medowie Little Athletics Club. Kendall Boyton, Jack Deguara and Hudson Wells travelled to the Sydney Olympic Park last weekend to compete in the Little Athletics NSW State Track and Field Championships. Kendall, who is eleven years old and attends Glen William Public School, competed in the technically difficult Javelin event. Hudson, who is also eleven but attends Medowie Public School, competed in the always treacherous triple jump. And then there is thirteen-yearold Jack Deguara.

q Kendall Boyton, Jack Deguara and Hudson Wells.

Please support the advertisers within the Medowie & Tilligerry News Of The Area as they are bringing you your local news each week.

A student at Waratah’s St Phillip’s College, Jack competed in three events at the State Championships. After all was said and done, Jack achieved personal bests in each of his events consisting of the 400m, 800m and the triple jump. However, it should be noted that all three boys represented their Club and community in a way that should make their families and the Club very proud of them. “The State Championships were the culmination of a very successful season for the Medowie Little Athletics Club,” President Jason Wells told News Of The Area. “We’ve enjoyed a season that included records being broken throughout and we also enjoyed a high attendance at Zone and Regional carnivals.” The Medowie Little Athletics Club will host their Presentation Evening for the season at their Kindlebark Oval home, on Friday 6 April from 5pm.
