upgrading the Tea Gardens Police Station over the next four years. “We’re looking at options of how to incorporate the heritage aspects of the building with the needs of the modern Station,” Minister Grant told News Of The Area. “For instance, there’s a demountable here that isn’t heritage,” Mr Grant said. “There were architects here at the Tea Gardens Police Station last week because it’s important we
As for more manpower, “That’s a decision for the Police Commissioner,” Mr Grant said. Port Stephens Superintendent Craig Jackson allayed concerns, “There’s no talk of any reduction in police numbers, but certainly a refurbished Police Station will make the job of our local Police a lot easier.” Superintendent Jackson said with a smile, “This might have been the cutting edge of technology in 1972 but not now; the upgrade will be most welcome.”
In June of last year Premier Gladys Berejiklian faced a large rally outside the Tea Gardens Police Station when there were fears among locals, the Station would be closed. Since then, the State Government has allocated close to a $1million for a new Karuah Police Station. And ahead of his visit to Tea Gardens last Monday, Police Minister Grant had just detailed plans for a new Police Station to be built in Lemon Tree Passage at a cost of $1.5 million. Liberal Candidate for Port Stephens Jaimie Abbott said, “Once built, the new Stations will

He announced his retirement last year saying he doesn’t have the energy for another four years in politics.

Fish Dumped FROM Page 1 outrage over net fishing within the Myall Lakes. It’s believed a commercial fishing operator from outside the area, used a net stretched between two boats, then dumped the unwanted catch at the eastern end of the beach.
The Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries is investigating but locals are calling for Politicians to enter the fray. “There needs to be a moratorium on commercial fishing in Port Stephens because the system we have isn’t working,” Myall River Action Group’s, Gordon Grainger said.
There’s been a huge turnaround in fish stocks since net fishing was banned in Sydney Harbour and Lake Macquarie. But the buy-out of licenses has only increased pressure within the Myall Lakes. “There is a need for the DPI to address the license situation and beef up inspections within

Property held by one person at separation is theirs Under the Family Law Act 1975 all assets and liabilities go into the “asset pool” – they don’t have to be in joint names. This can include an interest in assets owned with another person and an interest in assets held by a Trust.
Inheritances are excluded Parties can agree that an asset or cash received from an inheritance should be excluded from being divided between them and remain the property of the party who inherited. But if no agreement can be reached the inheritance amount will be included in the asset pool. However, how the asset came to be received by the party by way of inheritance will be relevant for how it is (if indeed it is) divided between the parties.

Spreading A Love For Books Ensuring every child is given the opportunity to learn to read is something Swan Bay resident, Hazel Wheeler, feels very strongly about.
By Kelly MAY
ENSURING every child is given the opportunity to learn to read is something Swan Bay resident, Hazel Wheeler, feels very strongly about. In an effort to bring stories to all children, Ms Wheeler began a book drive collecting second hand books for the less fortunate or isolated children of country and outback New South Wales. Previously, Ms Wheeler volunteered for the ‘Stories in the Street’ program in Raymond Terrace. Ms Wheeler told News Of The Area, “I heard that the inability to read is a big problem inland due to the shortage of books.” With help from relatives and friends donations have gone to children in some of the smallest single teacher schools west of Narrabri. Ms Wheeler said, “So far we have taken approximately fifteen boxes out, however there is still much work to do to reach more isolated schools throughout New South Wales.” Unfortunately the donations have began to slow and Ms Wheeler is having to buy the second hand books herself to ensure the children are not left without. Ms Wheeler is asking the people of Port Stephens to help her gather children books they no longer need or use. The Centre at Karuah is the main drop off location for donations between 9:30am and 3pm Monday to Friday and 2pm on weekends. Aussie Home Loans Raymond Terrace have also come on board as a drop off location for the month of February.
It is hoped that a drop off location in Medowie can be sourced for March. Ms Wheeler said, ”Books will be checked for suitability before distribution.” “Thank you to everyone who is able to positively contribute to the education of our disadvantaged children who are still suffering through the drought.” For more information about donating or becoming a drop off location please contact Ms Wheeler on 0428814246.

Second man charged after break-in on Supermarkets A SECOND man has been charged by Detectives investigating aggravated break-ins at supermarkets around the Hunter region last year. In April 2018, Detectives from the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad established Strike Force Tilyard to investigate six aggravated break-ins at supermarkets in the Hunter region between March 2017 and April 2018. On Wednesday 31 October 2018, a 28-year-old man was arrested and charged in relation to the break-in at a Tea Gardens’ supermarket on Monday 5 March 2018. He remains before the Courts. Following further inquiries, Strike Force Tilyard detectives arrested a 20-year-old man at Raymond Terrace Police Station about 3pm yesterday (Tuesday 15 January 2019). The Tanilba Bay man was charged with aggravated break and enter in company. Police will allege in Court that the man was part of a group who stole cash after forcing its way into the store using sledge hammers, block splitters and jemmy bars. He was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court on Tuesday 29 January 2019. Investigations under Strike Force Tilyard are ongoing.

Club Championship Fours By The JAFFA Tea Gardens Men’s Bowling Club
16 JANUARY: Hot weather forecast for today had organisers rearranging the program to include one game of 18 ends. They need not have bothered as a nice sea breeze kept conditions very comfortable for all the players. In all, forty bowlers enjoyed some very competitive Triples matches. The winners on the grass were Graham Kelly, Geoffrey Muggleton and Dennis Ashbridge. On the synthetic Col Saillard, Stewart Sturrock and David Perry walked away with the money. The lucky draw went to Ian Millar, Barry Goode and Kevin Barbie.
20 January: Players in the semi-finals of the Club Championship Fours were thankful for the cooler conditions today. The teams making it thus far are; Neil Kibble, Peter Gurney, Ross Barry and Danny Johnson. They played; Noel Jackson, Greg Smith, Geoff Fowler and Jeff Baker. The team of; Garry Wynne, Geoff Page, Dave Benson and Mark Hair Played the combination of; Garry Porter, Robert Weir, Ron Green and Brian Emmett Two outstanding games of bowls were played today with the most outstanding being the Danny Johnson, Jeff Baker clash. Danny’s team were well away early establishing an 11 shot lead after 9 ends. The big move came from the Jeff Baker side at the 13th end where they picked up a
5 to go within three shots of the lead. It was three ends later that they consolidated this with an amazing 6 on the 16th to hit the front. From there it was one-way traffic with the Jeff Baker Four powering home to win a great game 36-25. In the remaining game, Gary Wynne anchored the Mark Hair side well and it was not long before they held a 14 shot lead at the 9th end. TheCreated: Brian Emmett side A& B played Foley some good bowls but they lacked the charisma of Creator No: 12386 their earlier rounds. Qxpress: Gaynorto win 6 ends They could only manage during Checked: the match withNoel the Mark Hair team well in control winning 24-12. If both teams agree, the final will be played next Sunday.
