WITH Christmas just around the corner, local police are urging community members to be vigilant of their personal safety and property to ensure a safe and enjoyable festive season for all. As many residents are planning a trip away, police say taking a few simple steps to secure homes can help prevent returning to a break-in. “Lock all doors and windows and any extra security measures such as additional locks or wood in the window frames can help,” they say. “Notify your neighbours or local police

q SCIENCE: Jarryd Schmidt, Tom McInerney and Austin Battle experiment with a static electricity ball. By Daniel SAHYOUN FIFTY Myall Coast Year 6 students got a taste of high school life last week at the Orientation Day held at Bulahdelah Central School. The students, who will be starting Year 7 together in the new year, were able to meet their teachers and classmates and try out some of the subjects they will study. Tea Gardens student Austin Battle said he was excited about the changes high school will bring. “I’m not really worried about starting, I already have some friends here so that will help a lot,” he said. “The work will probably be a lot harder than what I am used to, but I’m definitely looking forward to it.” Bulahdelah Central School student Tom McInerney said Orientation Day showed that starting high school will be fun. “We will have more teachers and subjects and I think Science will be great because of the experiments you get to do,” he said. “I’ll still have the same friends but there will be lots of new people to get to know as well.” Experimenting
with microscopes and static electricity balls, creative badge making, mathematical problem solving and drama skills were some of the lessons offered to help the students make the transition to high school. Year Advisor for the new Year 7 group Georgina Cunich told News Of The Area the day was simply about the students becoming familiar with their new environment. “It’s about making sure that all the students are comfortable when they start Year 7 next year,” she said. “It was definitely a pleasure to have the parents here as well, there were some new and familiar faces and we will all be beginning on a new journey together.” Ms Cunich said part of her role was looking after the wellbeing of the group including providing extra assistance for any students who may be feeling anxious about starting high school. The new Year 7 group will be made up of students from Tea Gardens, Karuah, Booral, Coolongolook and Bungwahl Public Schools, St Joseph’s and Bulahdelah Central.
EXTRACTING honey from hives had the Bulahdelah Bee Club buzzing with activity at their final meeting for the year recently held at the Men’s Shed. Member Gary Haynes demonstrated how to remove honey from hive frames and deposit it into a manual centrifugal extractor. The 20 bee enthusiasts in attendance assisted with drawing honey from the frames and each person received a jar of honey extracted from the hive. Mr Haynes said spring and early summer are the best times for honey. “All the coast beekeepers start to collect their honey when the spring flowers and different species of eucalypts come out,” he

said. “We do have honey in autumn, but quality-wise in this area the honey that’s coming now is the best quality that you can get.” The evening concluded with an auction of beekeeping equipment which was made by members of the Men’s Shed including a hive box complete with frames and an electric embedder board. Men’s Shed member John Renfrew thanked the Bee Club for their ongoing support and acknowledged Gary Haynes and Chris Harvey for their commitment to the hive and care of the bees. Mr Haynes said interest in the club has grown during the year with the addition of many new members keen to learn about all aspects of beekeeping.

A chest of funds By Daniel SAHYOUN
FIVE community groups received donations from Bulahdelah IGA’s Community Chest funding program last week. More than $1,300 was shared between the Pony Club, St Joseph’s Primary School, Cricket Club, Lions Club and Bulahdelah Central School. IGA Supervisor Louise Dorney said the funds are accumulated from purchases of specially marked products. “When customers buy products that have the community chest symbol on them, a percentage of the sale goes to the Community Chest Fund,” she said. “This is one way that we can give back to the community.” Pony Club President Alicia Madden said the funds will greatly assist with the start-up costs for the new club. “We’ll be starting next year so the donation will help get the club up and running,” she said. Lion’s Club President Roger Dixon told News Of The Area
the funds will go towards their Community Activity Park project and Cricket Club Representative Erin Matheson said the money will be used to purchase new training equipment. Improved technology will be the focus for both schools with St Joseph’s enhancing their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) program with new resources including robotics and electrical circuits. The Central School’s Year 5/6 students will combine the donation with funds they have already raised to update their classroom computers with the purchase of Chromebooks. Mrs Dorney presented cheques to each organisation and said the IGA is pleased to be able to assist so many worthy community groups. “To be part of a business that gives back to the community is a very proud feeling,” she said. The recipients thanked the IGA staff and owners Darren and Pav Singh for their donations and ongoing community support.
Credit card scam By Daniel SAHYOUN
CREDIT card holders are urged to check their statements regularly and report any unauthorised transitions immediately to their bank or financial institution. This advice comes after local
residents spoke with News Of The Area about purchases charged to their credit cards without their knowledge. The charges were for several transactions over a five-day period with the amounts ranging from $25 to $840.
NSW Governor Peter Sinclair. “I remember when Shirley (his wife) and I moved here in 1986, I said it’s great place to live, we’re going to have a great time, but nothing for senior citizens, there wasn’t a facility here at all,” Mr Sinclair told News Of The Area. “The first facility was an RSL sub branch with just a ten room facility and it all flowed from there,” Mr Sinclair said. The new wing will bring the total beds at Peter Sinclair
Gardens to 65. Dr Gillespie said the new services would result in the creation of many new nursing and support jobs. “It’s regular long term employment, because you have back of house, hotel services, critical care, cleaners, it’s not one on one with clients but it’s pretty close.’’ Builders will take just a one week break over the Christmas period to ensure the new facility is ready to open its doors in early 2017.

The residents said they were informed by their bank that scammers will often make small transactions to see if they are approved before moving onto larger purchases. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Australian’s lost more than $2 billion to credit card fraudsters last year, double the $1 billion lost in 2010-11. The figures also show a significant increase in online card fraud where purchases are made using stolen account details. The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) say scammers have many ways of obtaining credit card details including over the phone and by accessing details from online shopping activities. “Once scammers have a credit card number and security code,
they can make purchases over the internet or by phone,” they say. ASIC suggests a few simple things consumers can do to help prevent card fraud. “Do not give your personal, credit card or online account details in an email or to a caller on the phone unless you made the call,” they say. “Regularly check your bank statements and if there are any purchases you cannot account for report them to your bank.” Choosing strong PINs and passwords for all accounts, shredding statements and bills before discarding them and having up-to-date antivirus software installed on your computer can also help. to what should happen in that situation. The vendor argued that the contract must be interpreted as implying a similar interest rate. On appeal the majority held the usual legal test to imply terms into a contract did not arise, namely: the implication was not necessary to give business efficacy to the Contract nor was the implication so obvious that ‘it goes without saying’. Judge Stevenson disagreed, however, and thought that a reasonable business person in the position of the parties would have understood that interest would continue to accrue at the specified rate until repayment. Police also urge people travelling to be safe on the roads. “Don’t try to do it all in one trip, if it’s more than two hours have a break, swap drivers and have a quick coffee stop,” they say.
“If towing caravans be very careful of exceeding the vehicles/caravans maximum weight and spread the weight as evenly as possible throughout the vehicle and caravan.” Driving slower than normal, even if in a hurry or running late, and not exceeding 100 kms/h with a towed vehicle will also help improve safety on the roads. People travelling with children and pets are reminded never to leave them alone inside the vehicle. Above all, the local Police wish everyone a safe and very happy Christmas.

Summer Reading Club By Margie TIERNEY YOU’RE never too young to join your local library’s Summer Reading Club, but you can be too old. The popular school holiday program is back at Libraries across the MidCoast region. The aim is to inspire young people to keep reading throughout their downtime over the summer break. The theme for this year’s program is ‘Superheroes and Villains’, with children being encouraged to unleash their imaginations to discover the powers and stories behind popular heroes and villains. Tea Gardens Library caters to three age groups.
“There’s zero to five, primary school and high school groups,” librarian Carol Johnson said. “With the pre-schoolers, mums and dads read to them and it’s just as valuable as kids doing independent reading,” Carol told News Of The Area. Brother and Sister, Tye and Claire Carter have already signed up to the Summer Reading Club. “You can learn, it makes homework easier, and you can use your imagination,’’ said 11-year-old Tye. His nine-year-old sister Claire enjoys reading too. “I like funny books,” she said. Both children have also been going to homework help
at the Library for the past two years. “Here, it’s one on one, they’re focusing on their work, at home it’s harder for them to concentrate,” Tye and Claire’s mum, Christine Carter, said. Stroud Librarian Kathy Dennis says the program is always popular. “We have lots of families signing up, many with three children,” Kathy said. Holidaymakers can also join the club as long as they are members of the Midcoast Library scheme. And there are inducements. “They’ve got to read 10 books to win one of the prizes,” Carol Johnson said.
Children and their families can register online at www.summerreadingclub. org.au and pick up a reading log and goodies pack from their local Library until Saturday 7 January. For more information, pop into your local library or call 6592 5290. q

By Daniel SAHYOUN WITH Santa’s Mailboxes in the Myall Coast region brimming with letters from children, the jolly man in red has made a surprise visit to some of the local post offices to read his mail. Speaking with News Of The Area, Santa Claus said he was delighted to receive so many letters from children. “My list is already well underway, so is all the toy making, preparations and wrapping,” Santa said. “The children’s letters keep me informed about what toys they like, who their friends are and what they are

All children who have mailed their letters by this date will receive a reply before Christmas.

Others help in the bar, canteen, pavilions and on the gates.” Mr Gooch, a long-term
volunteer himself, also acknowledged the many people who assisted with preparations in the leadup to the show. Local resident Leo Turnbull has volunteered for the past 26 years. “I started helping with the flag races and campdrafting, then I worked with Marie Mason in the canteen and have since taken that over from her,” he said. “The show is the centrepiece of our town, you’ve got to make sure that you keep it going and it’s good that we’re getting younger people coming to volunteer.” Mr Turnbull said the best part of volunteering is simply just helping by doing things for your mates and the town.
Fellow volunteer Irene Worth has also assisted at the show for many years. “I started helping Stella Woodward with the produce when everything was in the little pavilion, the big pavilion only had a roof back then, it didn’t even have walls so we have progressed considerably,” she said. “We’re one of the top 10 Country Shows in NSW so I think that says a lot.” Mrs Worth said the show brings the whole community together and has become a big part of Bulahdelah’s identity. To support the local community, Mr Gooch said 25 percent of the gate takings are donated to volunteer groups each year.

Perfect riverside vows
By Daniel SAHYOUN
KEN Southern and Fay Morgan were married during an outdoor ceremony on the banks of the Myall River in Bulahdelah last weekend. Under perfect skies, the couple took their vows and exchanged rings in front of their family and friends. The newlyweds and their guests celebrated with drinks on the tranquil riverside followed by a reception at Bulahdelah Bowling Club. Ken said the ceremony was absolutely perfect. “I thought my bride looked really beautiful and it was good to have our friends
at the wedding to help us celebrate,” he said. “I’m very happy about being a newlywed, I wouldn’t say my life will change in a big way, but I’ve now got someone to share it with.” Ken told News Of The Area he proposed to Fay quite some time ago. “I certainly didn’t get down on a bended knee or anything like that,” he said. “I just asked her would she marry me, and she said yes.” Fay said the ceremony was everything she was hoping for and was now looking forward to married life. “Ken looked very smart at

Great Homework Debate

ulahdelah Team: Amber Cunningham, Bridie O’Connell and Annee-Rose Perry; Tea B Gardens Team: Gethyn Bryant, Lilyarna Baillie, Lily-Arum Laws and Sophia Jeffries.
THE Rotary Club of Myall Coast recently held their Annual Debating Competition. The competition is held each year between the Debating Teams of Tea Gardens Primary School and Bulahdelah Central Primary School. This year it took place at the Tea Gardens Hotel with an audience of over 50 supporters. The debate’s topic was “Homework Should
be Abolished” and was hotly debated between Tea Gardens for the affirmative and Bulahdelah for the negative. Established as an annual event some eight years ago, it was originally between the Tea Gardens Primary debating team and a team from the Rotary Club. After being soundly thrashed every year, the Club bowed out and last year matched up teams from the two schools.
Bulahdelah was crowned last year by a very small margin so a very competitive atmosphere existed for this year’s debate. After excellent arguments from both teams, Tea Gardens were nominated the winner for 2016 by this year’s very capable adjudicator, Narelle Hawkes. Certificates and the perpetual trophy will be presented to the Tea Gardens Team at an upcoming school assembly.

from dawn to dusk. “She’s inventive, she makes 350 varieties of cupcakes, salt and vinegar, buttered popcorn to rum and coke and beer and pretzel,” said proud Mum Joanne Penton. Winemaker Janet Murray also took the opportunity to bring her reds and whites to the table. “We’re a very small wine maker,’’ Janet said. “We only make 500 cases a year, we don’t run a cellar door at home so we find the farmers markets is a chance for the public to taste our Twin Bridges wines.’’ From local honey makers to crystal creations, clothes and pottery there was something for all ages and tastes. The Twilight Market
would never have happened without the hard work of Farmer’s Market organiser Melissa Lopez. “We would like to keep this going, especially over the summer,” Melissa said. “It’s a great atmosphere, it’s a great feeling, people really enjoy coming.” While MidCoast Council was happy to approve this initial Twilight Market, it will take the will of the community to have it continue on a regular basis. “Council said if the community wants it then they have to sign a petition,” Melissa said. “It’s something that will bring people here for the businesses and it brings the community together.”
animals, such as wild dogs, rabbits and feral pigs, is a major concern of Hunter Landholders,” Luke Booth, invasive species coordinator, said. “Control activities can be costly.” These grants will enable the community groups to take an integrated approach to manage wild dog populations using a range of best practice techniques which will benefit landholders across the region.” Under the program, it was stated that Bulahdelah and District Wild Dog Management Group will receive $9,591 to support a new operational model to monitor and cull wild dogs in
Bulahdelah and surrounding areas. The stand at the Bulahdelah Show consisted of members of the Local Land Services interacting with the public and informing them of wild dog and feral pig controls through pamphlets, posters and a visual display of the actual size and look of feral pigs and wild dogs. There were also traps on display. They were greatly encouraged to be there and had a busy day talking to landowners.
Tea Gardens Twilight Market TEA GARDENS was treated to its first ever Twilight Market last Friday afternoon. More than a dozen stall holders gathered at ANZAC Park, among them, young entrepreneur Jennefer Trott. The 21-year-old has turned her passion for making cupcakes into a thriving business called ‘Sweet Creations by Jen.’ “I mostly do the markets, farmer’s, artisan, I travel as far as Kempsey,” Jennefer told News Of The Area. Eighteen months ago, Jennefer was unable to find work so she went back to TAFE and started baking and selling her delicious cakes from just one table. THE Bulahdelah Show included a special pavilion presentation from the Local Lands Services this year. This worked in conjunction with the recent announcement that Bulahdelah and the surrounding area will be receiving money to help monitor and cull dogs in the area. The Hunter Local Lands Services released a statement that wild dog control in the Hunter region will be given a boost. Mr PR, Soldiers Point. Dear PR,
DID the local council give you any diary guidelines? Because being asked to keep a diary sounds like a dream come true. Now if my literary agent had asked me to keep a diary, I would currently be cashing in on the movie rights. Picture
newsofthearea.com.au Breakfast at Tiffany’s with a bit of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest thrown in for good measure. Instead I’m sweating like a pig in a shabby consulting office replete with 70s lava lamp and bowls of congealed chicken soup (good for the soul, apparently).
Take the diary suggestion as a challenge, PR. Challenges are what keeps the world going – that and climate change action – but hey, the night is too young to dwell on rising temperatures and dying reefs. A barking dog calls and we, PR, must answer it.
Now I’m a dog lover, so I’d just go and let the dog out of its yard and bring it into my office so we could assist each other through our days of solitary confinement, alternating between whines and whimpers depending on the day’s events. But not everyone likes dogs. I understand that. So there’s an
alternative.
I suggest you write about what you see when you go out to investigate the barking dog. Is there a pothole in the road that has been there so long that it’s sprouting leaves? Is the councilmaintained verge overgrown? What about the graffiti on the bus shelter that suggests you partake in unsavoury acts with your mother? Write it all down, PR, and send the daily instalments to your council, and maybe even to News Of The Area. I guarantee that dog will be supplied with a council-issued shock collar that’ll make it more placid than Randle “Mac” McMurphy after his lobotomy. Carpe diem,
Jasminda.

With beaming smiles, each of the Preschool Graduates proudly received a certificate of achievement. The highly-anticipated visit from Santa did not disappoint with police escorting the man in red to ensure his safe arrival. So it was a great treat for the children of Karuah Primary School to receive a visit from players from the South Sydney Rabbitohs earlier this month. The visit was all part of a unique partnership between the South Sydney Club and Colgate to help teach students the importance of looking after their teeth both on and off the field. National Rugby League players Connor Tracey and Brett Greinke

and ex-players Roy Asotasi and Beau Champion held a workshop at the school. The children were taught about the five key areas to a healthy lifestyle, ‘Eat Well, Play Well, Drink Well, Brush Well, and Stay Well.’ “The kids have been fantastic,” Rabbitohs player Brett Greinke said. “Any time you go out to communities like Karuah, the kids are always really excited.’’ “They love Rugby League, and it’s great to see the partnership between Souths Cares, Colgate and the South Sydney Rabbitohs help
teach these kids to look after their teeth as well as having a healthy lifestyle.” The “Bright Smiles” campaign is designed for children aged three to nine years, and brings dental hygiene to life through ‘Dr Rabbit and the Tooth Defenders.’ It also helps to build selfesteem and create lifelong habits of brushing twice a day This year the program has seen the Rabbitohs players take their message of good oral health to more than 20,000 children across New South Wales.

Clubman of the Year BOWLING
Tea Gardens Men’s Bowling Club By The JAFFA 5 December The combined Club Presentation Night was held today with Club members celebrating the achievements of fellow bowlers with a great dinner served up by the Club’s Queen Kitchen. The champagne flowed amid the fellowship and camaraderie of good friends. Not all the winners were able to attend but those that did had a really good night. The highlight of the night was the announcement of the “Clubman of the Year” award. This award is presented each year by the Men’s Club President, Keith Smith, to the person judged as having contributed most to the running and the affairs of the Club through their personal efforts. The very worthy recipient this year was Club Treasurer Graham

Tom began his cricket career as a junior in Forster before moving through the ranks of North Coast teams.
He currently plays for Wests in New Lambton. The 20-year-old said his father Bradley introduced him to the sport.
“Dad had a ball in my hands from the time I could walk, he takes a lot of credit for my bowling even though he is a keeper,” Tom said. “My older brother Zac has also been a huge help with practice, he’s copped a few balls to the chest over the years, but he said it’s all been worth it.”

Many attended the event to congratulate the winners and enjoy a fine feast, great company, good music and a chance to brush up on the dance steps. Thanks to all those "behind the scenes" people that work hard to make these events a success. Tuesday 6 December Social bowls as usual. Prior to play two spiders were contested. The winners were Kayelene Pearson and Lynne Green. Play consisted of two games of Triples and a game of Fours. The winners of the day with a win plus ends were Robyn Beaumont, Sheril Johnson, Sandra Leisemann and Maynie Roberts. Thursday 8 December Break Up Day/Christmas Party for the lady bowlers. A good turn up of bowlers to enjoy this fun day, 12 ends of bowling, format turn around triples followed by lunch. Dress code was strictly Christmas attire. Kelly. Well done Graham and well deserved! 7 December Cloud and cool conditions with sporadic showers greeted the 56 bowlers competing in the Nominated Fours game today. Although play was interrupted on one occasion, the synthetic green made it possible to continue playing. Again the formula adopted was 20 points for a win plus ends won which put great emphasis on players winning both games. Doing just that was the winning combination of Brian Newbery, Harry Kennedy, Ron Green and Leigh Hunt. They finished with +56 just edging out with team of Tom Short, Graham Kelly, the “missing in
Rules of play: have fun, no measuring and no losers. Deyonne Page won the Spider, she calculated that it has been 10 years since she has won a Spider. After much frivolity on the green we all retired to the club house to enjoy the scrumptious lunch prepared by the Social Committee. It was great to catch up with those members who we don't see "on the green" these days. I know some of you will be back bowling next year. Special thanks to Wendy Jones, Francis Betar and Sheril Johnson for ensuring we are "well fed”, Rusty Sargeant for the most delicious Christmas Pudding and Custard ever, the Match Committee, the Executive Committee and to everyone who helped out on the day, it was a great party. Play on Wednesday will retain the Fours format for the next three months or so until the grass green is ready for play Bowlers will need to get their names down quickly to be assured of a game each Wednesday as numbers will be limited to 56. 9 December Bowlers were playing for a jackpot of $200 today in the Friday Open Jackpot Pairs. Fourteen bowlers participated in fine and windy conditions. There were two games of Pairs and one game of Triples. Four Points were awarded for a win and one for each end won.

The winners were Ken Devlin and Denis Wilberforce. The lucky losers were Max Stephens and Tom Parkinson. The Jackpot was not won! 10 December There was much frivolity on the green today with The Sunday Bowlers enjoying their Christmas Break-up Day. Thirty-six bowlers took to the green and 65 attended for a lovely lunch of prawns, ham and turkey salad. Outgoing co-ordinator Robyn Webster was surprised with a beautiful bunch of flowers as well as a bottle of “Chivas” and an engraved wine glass. Robyn is taking a well-deserved rest from Sunday bowls. Tom told News Of The Area he has been inspired by Australian fast bowler Josh Hazelwood who made his Test match debut at 23-years of age. “He played his cricket through the same ranks that I have and he shows that a country boy can make it in the big time,” Tom said.
“Playing in a national team is a massive step from where I am now, but one can dream and anything is possible.”
Tom is currently juggling commuting to Newcastle for work each day with coaching, training sessions and matches with his teammates. “They call themselves country down there but I think I’m the biggest country bumpkin in the team,” he said.
Tom is one of only two under-23 players selected for the 14-person Country NSW squad.

Karuah Bowlers Back on the Lawn GOLF Karuah RSL Men’s Bowls Club By Trevor DAVIES HAVING written previously about annual cycles in the bowling world, it seems strange now to tell you that in early December, Karuah bowlers are starting their next year. Our green has been unusable due to its annual refurbishment and this usually means that we don’t start playing at home again until early January in the New Year. But . . . due to some expert lawn husbandry, great care and skill, our Master Green Keeper Leon Post has worked some magic and the green will be ready to play on the second weekend in December. Leon humbly suggested that

the recent good rain and sunny weather played some part in this result! Club bowlers will celebrate their return with a barbecue and afternoon social competition this Saturday, the 10 December from midday with the “ceremonial opening of the green” planned for 1pm and then bowling immediately after that. Our bowlers have much to catch up on! In the period of the refurbishment we have held club visits to neighbouring clubs at Bulahdelah and Lorne. Club buses full of bowlers descended each Tuesday on the hospitable and welcoming members at either the Bulahdelah or Lorne Clubs where we were welcomed as kindred spirits.

well as Danny Johnson for all their hard work. Sunday bowls will continue next year with the opening date to be posted on the notice board of the Club. In other news Entries are still being received for the opening Club Championship of 2017, the Club Fours. This is a wonderful opportunity for players who have entered for Pennants next year to practice the 21 end format and to adjust to having only two bowls to play and not three. Round one commences on Saturday 14 January. Later in January entries will be received for the Club Minor Pairs Championship which this year will be played over rounds of 18 ends with three bowls. We hope that at some stage we can return their warm hospitality and even hotter competition! Our travelling bowlers have mostly returned home to Karuah now and bear stories of games and competitions played far and wide. We had a mixed fours team who entered, played and won a bronze medal at the Pan Pacific Masters Games on the Gold Coast. We have had bowlers travelling north visit and play at North Haven, Southport, Townsville, and Moranbah and locally at Soldiers Point, Tea Gardens, and Raymond Terrace. Terrace at King Park. The Sharks batted first and got off to a slow but steady start. Off their 25 overs they were 2/95 with Lachlan Groot starring with an unbeaten 40 supported by Nathan Katz 23. The Terrace batters were then held to a score of 7/65 off their 25 overs by some tight bowling from the young sharks. Lachlan Groot continued his good day taking 2/8 and was supported by the improver, Jai Nott, 2/0 off 3 overs. This places the sharks in second on their ladder a point behind the leaders and in a good shape to make the semi-finals for the second year running. Senior – Karuah Red played Clarence Town at Karuah. On losing another toss the sharks were put into the field and despite a

weakened bowling attack kept the Clarence Town team to 8/148 off 35 overs. Best of the bowlers was Darren ‘Forty’ Watt 4/32 and at one stage he was on a hat trick ball but it passed him by. The Sharks then went about chasing down the total and it took them until the 32nd over to achieve the total, being 9/151. A close game celebrated by the sharks. Batting honours went to Colin McCarthy 60 and young gun, 14-year-old Matthew Selby, 24. This leaves the red sharks running 4th in the competition, leading into the game with competition leaders, Dungog Bunnies, next weekend. A win would help them secure a position in the top four. Senior – Karuah White played Gresford at Tea Gardens. The Whites
bowled first and kept the Gresford team, last year’s premiers, to 8/116. Bowlers, Cameron Hyde 2/22 and Brent Bills 2/3, helped knock over the Gresford batsmen. The white sharks then went about chasing the total and did so in the 33rd over with Jim Drinkwater 27 not out and Nathan Grimshaw 28 not out. This team full of young cricketers is steaming into the Christmas break with their fourth win in a row, full of confidence, and pushing into fifth position on the ladder a few points behind the red sharks. Next week could see them get into the top four with a win against the Clarence Town team. Until next week, ‘Buckets at the Crease’. Proudly sponsored by Karuah & District RSL Club

Tom makes Bush Blues side By Daniel SAHYOUN
BULAHDELAH fast bowler Tom Allen has been selected in the Country NSW squad.
He will make his Bush Blues debut at the Australian Country Championships to be held in Wollongong in January. In the lead up to selection, Tom’s impressive form was on show at the recent NSW Country Championships held in Narrabri where he claimed five wickets from 14 overs. “Being selected is a great honour and I didn’t see myself getting as far as I have,” Tom said.
q CRICKET: Tom Allen practices bowling in Bulahdelah.
