DESPITE receiving an extensive overhaul about five years ago, the boat ramp in Memorial Drive Karuah has since proved to be a dangerous and often expensive landing for water users due to the speed and conditions of run out tides. Frequent problems encountered during runout tide conditions include vessels being damaged as they are pushed up against the floating pontoon on the Eastern side of the ramp facility, and has even resulted in a couple of injuries with people being stuck between vessels and the pontoon and gangway. Commodore of Karuah Motor Yacht Club, Ken Baker told News Of The Area, “Enough is enough. People are getting hurt, boats are being damaged, and due to this the town is seeing lots of tourism dollars just simply turning around and heading back out

Due to not only the lack of, but the type of facilities here.” “But to keep visitors coming back safely we need to address the ramp and the issues with the run-out tide,” Mr Baker said. A meeting called by Ken Baker also included Ms Kate Washington MP, Port Stephens Council staff members Brendan Callander and Ian Gilkes, Ross Parr from Karuah RSL Club, members of the KMYC and commercial fisherman. Speaking to those present Brendan Callander from Port Stephens Council acknowledged there were some funds set aside for continued work at the site and

Ms Kate Washington MP said, “It’s fantastic that the community can have such valuable input into what is really required here.”

Allowed to have say PROTESTERS were out in force at the second official MidCoast Council meeting held last Wednesday in Taree. With standing room only, a number of people opposed to the merger waved placards, chanted and called-out during Administrator John Turner’s opening remarks. Members of the public were given the opportunity to have their say with 14 people addressing Mr Turner and Interim General Manager Glenn Handford. Former Greater Taree Mayor Paul Hogan was first speaker and said the formation of the MidCoast Council was a “takeover of local democracy.” “Since proclamation, the Administrator and Interim General

Manager have behaved like they are conducting a Great Lakes takeover,” he said. “The proclaimed Deputy General Managers have been made redundant and all activities focus in the former Great Lakes office.” Gloucester Knitting Nanna Carol Bennett said the forced merger was undemocratic. “Gloucester Council have demonstrated that they are capable of standing alone,” she said. “John Turner’s appointment as Administrator is a direct insult to the people of Gloucester and he should be stood down immediately.” Other speakers included former Great Lakes Councillor Linda Gill and

“Council are here listening to so many concerns and it’s pleasing to know that further communication will occur for a positive outcome,” she said. Council staff were shown by members of Karuah Motor Yacht Club and Commercial users, what was required. Follow up meetings have been scheduled and News Of The Area will report on progress.

Cathy Posselt, wife of former Greater Taree Council General Manager. The protesters applauded and cheered each of the speakers in support. Speaking with the Media last week, Mr Turner said the meeting allowed people to put their views forward in a democratic way. “People have got strong views and they’re entitled to speak up,” Mr Turner said. “Those people who were against merger had their say and they will probably continue to want to have their say. That’s the democratic process and that’s the way we should do it.” Following the speakers, the Council meeting got underway and successfully covered all business items on the agenda.

The Preschool recently received a $7000 NSW Government Community Preschool Outreach Grant and is planning to establish a new outdoor environment starting with the development of a Bush Tucker Garden. Assisted by the children, Minister Williams turned the first sod in the garden and planted a tree during her visit. Minister Williams said the grants were given to community preschools to help boost preschool access for local families. “Access to quality early childhood education is vital for all children regardless of where their preschool is located,” Minister Williams said.

“It is exciting to join with the children and staff of Tea Gardens to plant the first trees in their Bush Tucker Garden.” Preschool Director Judy Clarke said a healthy lifestyle is important for all people, especially preschool children. “The Bush Tucker Garden will teach kids about a healthy lifestyle and about the environment,” she said. “The kids are keen to have an active part in the setting up and maintenance of the garden.” Mrs Clarke said the Bush Tucker Garden will also assist the children learn more about our indigenous culture. “We are very grateful to have Stephanie from the Buudja Marrung

Indigenous Culture Education group with us,” she said. “The group is assisting us to establish and learn about the garden.” The slab around the new extension at the Preschool was finally poured last week. Hunter Readymix Concrete generously donated the concrete and J R Concreting Contractors laid the slab. “We really appreciate that it was done so quickly and the much reduced rate allowed us to go ahead with the job,” Mrs Clarke said. “As a community non-profit preschool it is wonderful to have such generous support from these businesses.” Federal Member for

Statutory Wills – Part 2 Section 18 of the Succession Act gives power to the Court to allow a Will to be made, altered or revoked for a person without testamentary capacity. An application can only proceed with the leave of the Court (under section 22 of the Succession Act) and such leave will not be granted unless the Court is satisfied as to the following:

A. There is reason to believe that the person in relation to whom the Order is sought, is or is reasonably likely to be incapable of making a Will; and B. The proposed Will, alteration or revocation is or is reasonably likely to be one that would have been made by the person if he or she had testamentary capacity; and C. It is or may be appropriate for the Order to be made; and D. The applicant for leave is an appropriate person to make the application; and E. Each case to do with statutory Wills is dealt with on the facts. The Court takes into consideration all of the above matters and in particular is usually unwilling to alter an existing Will unless the alteration is one that would have been made by the person (who is incapable of making a fresh Will) if he or she had testamentary capacity. The mere fact that the terms of the proposed Will are more suitable to the beneficiaries is not sufficient. The Court must be satisfied that if circumstances change, that the person incapable of changing the Will would have made the change if he or she were capable of doing so. Also, all persons who are likely to be affected by any change to a Will by the Court must have the opportunity to be heard by the Court before a decision is made.

The mere fact that a person who does not have a Will and loses testamentary capacity is not sufficient to satisfy s22 of the Act. The law provides who will be the beneficiaries of an estate in the event that a person dies without a Will. Therefore, the potential beneficiaries of an intestate estate are entitled to be heard in respect of an application for a Will to be made for a person who lacks testamentary capacity.

Vivienne Boyd commented, “We had a lot of happy faces leaving the Tea Gardens Hotel asking when are you going to do this again? “I think this is an indication that we had a successful afternoon.” The Lioness Club give many thanks to the donations and gifts given by businesses and individuals which allowed the day to be such a success.

Theworkbeingundertaken is phase two of an upgrade project to provide alternative television reception sources for residents in the area who suffer from poor reception due to co-channel interference. Background Since the beginning of Digital Television broadcasts the Ports Stephens and Hunter regions have been affected by co-channel interference from out of area signals. It affects viewers who receive their broadcast from the Mt. Sugarloaf site. This interference is dependent on the weather conditions and is more prevalent during the spring

and summer months. This interference can range from minor signal video and/ or audio breakup to complete signal loss. RBAH is working with the federal government to provide funding for a solution to the interference in these areas. The upgrade to the Port Stephens Transmission site and the installation of the new Wallaroo site is now complete. Bulahdelah will be the final site in phase one of this project. This work will provide viewers in the area with an alternative transmission site to receive their television services from. After the work is completed viewers will have to repoint their antennas to the new site that serves them and manually retune their digital receivers.

Scouts: Need involvement By Daniel SAHYOUN BE prepared for a new adventure with plans well underway to re-establish the Scout Group in Hawks Nest. A public meeting will be held to discuss the plans and all community members are invited to attend. Manning District Scout Commissioner Stan Woodrow said being involved in Scouts was “absolutely amazing” and was all about having fun while learning skills for life. “Scouts can go anywhere and can do anything, you can even get your pilots licence through the Scouts,” Mr Woodrow said. “We certainly do tie knots, but it’s much more than this with an enormous range of activities to get involved in.” Experiences include learning traditional Scouting skills through to more extreme challenges such as water sports, abseiling, rock climbing, hiking, alpine skiing and sailing. Mr Woodrow said he has taken groups on overnight excursions to Taronga Zoo and Cockatoo Island and some groups have gone overseas. “There’s a group that does television work and there’s a

q MEET: (Left) Len Roberts -Ex Councillor GLSC, Trevor Cook, David Gillespie, Gordon Grainger, Trevor Jennings and Gordon Bartlett. (Above) The meeting.

By Dave BRAZIER AHEAD of next months Federal Election and with so many wondering ‘who to vote for’, one recently appointed representative of the area put some minds at ease when he visited Tea Gardens last week. Dr David Gillespie MP was invited to listen to many of the Community Group members

concerns and wishes at the private residence of Mr Gordon Grainger. Members and representatives from the Myall River Action Group, Hawks Nest Tea Gardens Progress Association, Tea Gardens Historical Society and the Myall Chamber of Commerce and Tourism attended the meeting on the afternoon of 7 June. Hosted by Gordon Grainger

from the Myall River Action Group, talks with David Gillespie quickly turned to the importance of the Myall River to the area, its importance of tourism and the business it brings annually to the area. Gordon Grainger said, “Without the rivers qualities and access for ferry services the area will suffer quickly and will put extra strain on businesses

School’s first Parent Forum By Daniel SAHYOUN

PARENTS and invited guests turned out in force for Karuah Public School’s first Parent Forum held last week. The forum provided an opportunity to welcome the community into the school to meet with teachers and other parents to openly discuss future directions for the growing school. The day included a presentation from Heaton Public School Principal Brett Meek who spoke about the challenges staff and students face and the importance of creating a generation of critical thinkers and inventors. Karuah Public School Assistant Principal Mrs

Megan Saffioti also presented during the day discussing the benefits of the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) program. “The PBL system has had a positive effect in the school by minimising behaviour interruptions and maximising learning time,” she said. “Our PBL motto is ‘Respect, Responsibility, and Pride’ which is supported by our Aussie Five Rules.” The school mascot PeBbLes the Dolphin and the PebBLes badge were introduced and new signage at the front of the school was also unveiled. Mrs Saffioti said the forum allowed parents the opportunity to provide

productive feedback on programs running in the school. “Our parents said they had a wonderful day in a relaxed environment, meeting many new parents they had not yet had the chance to meet,” Mrs Soffioti said. Other presenters during the day included Mr Mark McLennan and Mrs Christine Carroll from Hunter River High School who introduced some of their successful programs. They also spoke about the connection between Hunter River High and Karuah Public School. School Speech Therapist Tessa Haines discussed the free speech pathology

during non-holiday periods.” “Dredging has of course been done last year and is about to resume again, but we need to keep on top of not only the navigational hazards the river can bring us if not monitored and rectified correctly, but also the quality of the water in general that brings the place to life,” Mr Grainger said. Various concerns raised

to Dr Gillespie included the amount of red tape and run around that is often experienced when dealing with local government groups, general concerns of the forced and surprising merger affecting the former Great Lakes Council and how to go about applying for Federal Grants for Community Programs. After listening to the dozen representatives from different groups that attended the meeting, for anyone that didn’t know David Gillespie prior would do now. Dr Gillespie said, “I promise to be a good strong advocate for this area. It is really unique.” “When the Electorate Boundaries were modified and included this area, I have

effectively taken on an extra 42,000 people to care for, and take into account of their needs and wants.” “We have only a short amount of time between now and the Election, and I will do my best to see as many people and hear their concerns and needs before the Polls open,” Dr Gillespie said. “My service to you will continue long after the Election also,” he said. Upon closing the meeting, a concerned resident stated that the area is quite often seemingly overlooked by those in power. Dr Gillespie replied in his closing statement, “I hope to reassure you that I will do my very best so you do not feel like you are forgotten.”

Mother Nature hits hard By Dave BRAZIER

WELL, for those that asked for a drop of rain last weeks deluge was certainly what so many had requested and Mother Nature even managed a bit more from the Heavens just to make sure. On a worrying trend though, the forecast of heavy winds wasn’t exactly on anyones wish list and thankfully it would appear that the Myall Coast came away reasonably unscathed compared to some of our Northern and Southern counterparts. According to Willy Weather, on 5 June the Tea Gardens area received a whopping 134.8mm of rain, adding to the total monthly

rainfall of the month that now stands at nearly 235mm. Yep, rain, you got it. For so many the forecast of damaging winds wasn’t as appealing as having their water tanks topped up, we had a heap fall down over the weekend so indoor activities were a must. Of concern though was the large swells and tides that coincided with the deluge, and unfortunately the combination has left its mark on our shoreline once again. Winda Woppa has yet again been affected with a few feet of sand being lost due to the king tides and swells. News Of The Area visited the scene only a couple of weeks ago and the

difference is quite apparent, it truly makes me wonder whether the cost of sand bank rejuvenation is really worth the cost and effort each time we have a coastal low that seems to steal so much of the coastline each time? Winda Woppa of course wasn’t the only target of Mother Nature, with Bennets Beach at Hawks Nest now closed due to an incredible amount of sand loss. Dunes now drop off over 20ft in some places, shear drops that are both dangerous to people and the dunes. Mid Coast Council have been proactive in fencing off the areas until evaluations have been completed and remediation

works are implemented. At the Hawks Nest Surf club off Booner Street the access to all beach pathways are closed. The formed timber walkway used by the Surf Lifesavers is seriously damaged along with public access walkways. At the Yacaabah end the drop from the dunes to beach level is staggering compared to only a few weeks ago, and is of course also closed. News Of The Area reminds its readers that it is of paramount importance that people do not access any of these areas until repairs are carried out and deemed safe by Council.

Left scrambling for eggs

INDEPENDENT Candidate for Lyne

A SHORTAGE of free-range eggs across the country is being felt locally with limited supplies available in supermarkets in the area. Spokesperson for Egg Farmers of Australia Mr John Coward told News Of The Area a combination of colder weather, increased demand for free range eggs and a rise in egg consumption have all contributed to the shortage. “People are starting to recognise the value of eggs as a cheap form of protein adding to the demand.” Mr Coward said “eggs

cost around $7 a kilogram compared to $25 for steak, making them a viable protein alternative for families.” With producers struggling to keep up with the demand for eggs, many supermarket shelves have been left empty. A Coles spokesperson said, “We are working closely with our suppliers to increase production to ensure we have a full range of eggs available for customers as soon as possible.” Mr Coward said the supply of free-range eggs is expected to return to normal within two

months. Some of the smaller supermarkets in the area have not yet felt the effects of the shortage. Assistant Manager of Bulahdelah IGA Jenny Glynn said the independent supermarket sources their eggs from local providers in Stroud and Libreri in Greta, “At present, neither of our two providers have stated they have any issues,” Mrs Glynn said. “The effects of the shortage will not be known until our order is filled later this week.”

THE twenty-seventh School Parliament at Tea Gardens Public School was officially opened last week by School Principal and GovernorGeneral Mr Mark Clemson. The formal ceremony honoured the 18 new Parliamentary members from Years 3 to 6 who officially took up their positions. Prime Minister Sophia Jeffries said the role provides a good experience through acting as a voice for the student body. “I will learn leadership and public speaking skills and it will definitely help build confidence,” Sophia said. “This position is an important responsibility as we are voting and making decisions on behalf of the other children.” Following the official ceremony, the new Parliament wasted no time in listening

and voting on new legislation which related to the position of the bubblers, sports shed and having the day off school on your birthday. Mr Clemson said the Parliament is run on the Westminster system and offers an outstanding model of student participation. “It provides opportunities for all students to communicate ideas about school improvement, and allows them to be involved in the decisionmaking process,” he said. “I look forward to a year of lots of new ideas, positive changes and teamwork in the school.” Special guests included Member for Port Stephens Kate Washington MP and the first Governor General and former Tea Gardens School Principal Mr Darryl Martin. Mr Martin, who has attended all 27 School Parliament openings, said it is very special to see the children

undertake their new roles. “It’s a huge responsibility to take on and I commend these students for stepping up and putting effort into it,” Mr Martin said. “I always enjoy coming back each year as it’s a great display of student work and achievement. Members of the new School Parliament include Prime Minister Sophia Jefferies, Deputy Prime Minister Lily Arum-Laws, Speaker of the House Grace Burke and Ministers Luke McCarthy, Tyleya Dungay, Casey O’Bryan, Lilliana Baillie, Abbie Smith and Toby Avery. Tea Gardens School Parliament has been recognised with many prestigious awards for excellence and outstanding achievement including the Assistant Director General’s Award and the NSW Children’s Week Award.

Mr Morphett said the baby’s mother, who is well-known in the area as ‘Princess’ was in a tree above the chicken pen and he attempted to encourage her to retrieve the baby. “We put the baby at the base of the tree and stood well clear, she was making small squeaks from time to time which should have attracted mum,” he said. “After about 45 minutes, Princess was showing no signs of coming down and the baby appeared to be stressed and was shivering in the cold.” Mr Morphett said it was also possible that Princess may have deliberately rejected the baby and following further consultation with HKPS, it was decided to put Louise into care. With Louise tucked firmly in his jacket to keep her warm, Mr Morphett drove to meet with HKPS carer Sue Swain. Louise required feeding every three hours night and day.

q BABY: Baby Louise is in the care of Hunter Koala Preservation Society. Photo: HKPS HKPS Secretary Simone Aurino said after one week in care, Louise is still in a critical condition but is doing well having gained 40 grams. Louise will be in care for about six months and will go through a weening and dehumanisation process before being returned to Hawks Nest. Mr Morphett said Hawks Nest’s small koala population of about 20 has been officially declared endangered by NSW National Parks and Wildlife

Services and is the only surviving endangered koala population in NSW. Photos and videos of Louise can be viewed online at www.facebook. com/hkpscareandrescue and www.facebook.com/ myall.koalas. The Seat of LYNE is has THE line-up of Candidates for the Federal seat of Lyne has expanded, with the addition of Independent Candidate Rodger Riach from Wingham who has confirmed he will contest the seat at the 2 July election. The Australian Electoral Commission has now finalised candidates, with six people set to battle it out for the seat of Lyne. The draw to determine the position on the ballot paper was conducted last Friday at Taree Electoral Office with four candidates in attendance. Labor candidate Peter Alley drew the number one position followed by Greens candidate Julie Lyford in

second spot. Christian Democratic Party candidate Elaine Carter will be third on the ballot paper followed by Independent Brad Christensen, Nationals Dr David Gillespie and Independent Rodger Riach. Early voting has commenced at Taree Electoral Office and will open on Monday 20 June at the Electoral Offices in Forster and Raymond Terrace. Applications for postal voting close on 29 June. On the streets of the Myall Coast, voters have mixed views about the issues they want politicians to address. Health, employment, education, aged care,

pensions and border protection have been hot topics of conversation. Julie Hill from Karuah said employment was an important issue. “I’d like to see more jobs created, particularly in this area where it is a big problem,” she said. “Providing greater access to training opportunities is also important to help young people gain employment.” Irene Worth from Bulahdelah said aged care was particularly important in the area. “Everything relating to aged care comes under one umbrella making it difficult to get anything,” Mrs Worth said.

Great Lakes management Dear News Of The Area,

THE newly formed Council conducted their inaugural meeting last week. It can be accessed through the Great Lakes Council web site. Whilst we in general opposed the merger, our fall -back position was to hope that GLC management was placed in the drivers’ seat and am glad to see our

hopes have materialised. The interim Council has formed 2 committees. Local Representative Committee (LRC) and Implementation Advisory Group (IAG) The administrator is Mr John Turner—retired Country party member who has a great working knowledge of our area. The interim General Manager is Mr. Glenn Handford, former GM of

GLC. Jan McWilliams has been elected as chair of the two committees. Len Roberts has been elected to the IAG and Carol McCaskie to the LRC. It means we should still have a voice with the good chance that our pending improvements can still be brought to fruition. Gordon Grainger Tea Gardens

Rest easy friend Dear News Of The Area,

LAST Friday we lost a special person from Bulahdelah. I think nearly everyone knew ‘Shakey Mike’. I just wanted to say I have known him at least 10 years and I didn’t even know his last name until he recently went to hospital.

Which I needed to know to visit him in hospital. To me I didn’t need to know his last name, his life history or anything personal about him. He was a gentleman, thoughtful and he loved his ride on mower! When he went to hospital he took the keys to it so no one could use it.

Also his model boats he loved and I don’t think they ever got wet!! I will always remember ‘Shakey’ Mike, what you see is what you got! A real true down to earth person, no frills!! Rest Easy My Friend. Love Gail and Tayla, Bulahdelah

Dear News Of The Area,

STOP changing Prime Ministers, I am sick of the revolving door. I want the Government to manage the country better and stop behaving like children in Parliament. Graham Halley Tea Gardens Dear News Of The Area, THERE’S been a bit of disparity with getting the economy up to scratch and the government has been using the lower end of the financial scale to make up for it. The government has previously hit the pensioners, so I believe that they should be treated equally and fairly. Both parties need to be a little more emphatic when it comes to those seeking asylum. Luncheon thoughts Dear News Of The Area,

I HAVE two things to discuss the first is for those who don’t know the next luncheon is at the Golf Club green room on the 24 June 12 noon. I was going to attach the Menu from the Golf Club - just for you to look at but I have given up trying to get the scanner to work - we will order what we want when we arrive. If you could still advise if you are attending please a few days before that would be

great. The second one is that a suggestion has been put forward to me by a friend, that maybe we could have someone different each month to organise our monthly lunches. That way girls can take a turn in maybe doing something different that I wouldn’t even thought of? I have things organised up until July so what do you think if we give it a try for August September and so on until the end of the year, when I hope

someone else will take over the reins for a turn. The person who organises each month and this will have to be done in advance so I have time to put it in the paper at the beginning of the month and send out the group email with all the details of Venue - Menu - Time - and booking confirmation can just send me an email and I will do the rest as normal. Can I have your thoughts please ladies. Susan Burns Lunch Group

Good on you Nannas

Dear News Of The Area,

I READ the report, News Of The Area’ June 2, 2016, of the Knitting Nannas protest at the inaugural meeting of Mid Coast Council. Congratulations, ladies. Most timely and poignant action. The whole issue of council amalgamation has been a disaster and another example of just how far out of touch our politicians are.

The area has gone from having three councils, each with General Managers on ridiculous salaries to one having one General Manager and two assistant General Managers, all still on their ridiculous salaries PLUS a “has been” politician given a “job for the boys” appointment, again at rate payers expense, where is the cost saving here? The net result to us, the great unwashed masses

who pay for these all this, extra cost. The benefits, if there will ever be any, will be many years and several rate rises in the future; and if previous examples of amalgamation are to be a guide, no savings will ever materialise, but we will get reduced services and higher rate charges to pay Mike Baird’s folly. Further to Macklinshaw Land named Hope Dear News Of The Area, I HAVE just read Bob Macklinshaw letter published Thursday June 9, he raises some very important issues that we all should consider. Our politicians disgusting snub to our Vietnam soldiers finally returning home, only emphasises their contempt for our country and our way of life. Another issue is the crazy size of our public service.

We are a small nation but consider this, (based on 2014 figures from both the Australian and US governments, not including military personnel). Australia 23,500,000 population, with 1,898,800 public servants. USA 317,000,000 population with 6,900,000 public servants. If we do the maths Australia had 1 public servant for every 12.37 citizens while USA had 1 public servant for every 45.94 citizens, or in

other terms 8.1% of the Australian population were public servants while only 2.18% of US citizens were public servants. Does that mean that our public servants are less efficient than theirs or is our public service another example of Government incompetence and waste of taxpayer money? I’ll let you decide, I have my own answer. Greg Mutton Bundabah

Dear News Of The Area,

MY husband and I bought a block of land in North Arm Cove about 20 years ago with the hope that one day we could build our little house. We felt in love with the area and we use to go every summer with our children to look at our land and enjoy the beautiful water views. We named our land “HOPE”. We never stopped paying the rates for 20 years and I believe many people still paying like us; and the ones that stopped paying

probably became pensioners and cannot afford to pay anymore. But how much money all the people paid to the council probably for more than 20 years. I don’t think money is the problem. We don’t go there every year anymore. Some times we pay some locals from North Arm Cove to cut the grass in our land. But I can say the area has deteriorated a lot not only the non urban area but also the urban area it looked

really sad. It is a pity that this council does not recognizer that North Arm Cove has a big potential to develop and create more jobs. I wrote a nice letter to the Council to ask about the approval of environmental free houses: kit homes with solar energy, rain water tanks, our own sewage but never have a reply. I hope people doesn’t give up and continuing fighting for something that it is ours. Stella Maris, Ratepayer North Arm Cove

Tea Gardens Women’s Bowls By Lily SMITH TUESDAY, 7 June: We had twenty bowlers attend on a very windy and fairly cool day. The format was two games of triples and one game of fours. The strong breeze certainly made bowling a bit of a challenge. The winners overall with the highest score were Kerry Faber, Bev Stephens and Dale Winter. They had a mighty win with a score of 31 – 8. Sadly I was in the losing side.

Thursday, 9 June: There were only twelve bowlers on the green today. There were a few beanies sighted too. Winter must be just around the corner!! The format was three games of pairs. The winners with the most shots plus ends were Bev Stephens and Deyonne Page. Just a reminder that the office bearers nominations for 2017 should be in by 20 June, prior to our AGM on 6 July. The Veterans Day takes place on 17 June, that is always a fun day. The Ruth Bowden Trophy Day is coming up on 30 June. Thank you Kathie for filling in for me much appreciated.

Exercise & experience for group Mid week wondering whether we’d get the chance to climb inside one of them if it could be restored. The 1840’s Quambi House has been fully restored by the local Historical Society Members, and we spent some time exploring it and the items in it. It was pointed out that this two storey Georgian house was designed for the northern hemisphere, and there are no windows on the northern side. Next to it is John’s Church with its churchyard, where we learned a little more history before walking to the Court q STROUD: Thursday Walkers outside the historic Stroud Post Office as they venture throught the township.. triples BOWLS

Tea Gardens Men’s Bowls By The JAFFA 8 JUNE: Fine and windy weather greeted the 49 starters in the Wednesday Nominated Triples today. Although the same team, that had an extraordinary score last week, again won the day at least they had some competition this time. Frank Zumbo, Lachlan Hair and Mark Hair again carried the day with a very respectable +31 The composite team of Harry Hauben/George Winter, Neville Vaughn and Max Stephens came in second with a +23. They won on a countback from Graham Kelly, Dennis Olive and Brian Emmett.

There is a Notice of Motion posted on the noticeboard to change the “nominated” format for Wednesday bowls. There are some compelling arguments for change. To vote on this issue bowlers need to attend the Annual General Meeting of the Bowling Club on Sunday 26 June commencing at 9.00 am. Sharp. 10 June: I knew that it would not be long before the lure of the cash would be so compelling that bowlers just had to be at Friday Jackpot Pairs to get their hands on it. Whilst not a great field, a modest turnout of 22 bowlers attended in superb weather for this event. They played on the grass green. CONTINUED Page 12
