Applications for event sponsorship

closing soon

MIDCOAST Council’s latest round of event sponsorship applications for 2020/21 will close on 28 February 2020. Event organisers holding events across the MidCoast region between 1 August 2020 and 31 January 2021 are invited to submit applications for sponsorship funding of up to $10,000 from Council. Applications for sponsorship will be assessed based on the level of economic, social and cultural benefits generated through the event.

Not only do local events connect the MidCoast’s vibrant communities, they help put the region on the map, attracting visitors from around the country and boosting the local economy. From art shows and music festivals, to sporting events, food, fashion and everything in between, events are a celebration of what the MidCoast is all about and Council is committed to supporting these great events to deliver benefits to the

area’s 90,000+ residents and visitors.

Depending on the scale of the event, four categories of funding are offered in the sponsorship program:

Community event: Up to $2,000

Medium event: $2,000 - $5,000

Large event: $5,000 - $10,000

Iconic event: $10,000+ Applications must be submitted online using the event sponsorship application form, while organisers of 'Iconic Events’ should contact Council’s events team prior to submitting their application. “This is a terrific opportunity for event organisers to receive assistance in bringing their ideas and projects to life or to grow and improve existing events,” explained Robyn Brennan, MidCoast Council’s Economic Development Coordinator.

“Council has a long history of supporting events across

q

MidCoast's 90,000+ residents and visitors

the region with 20 to 30 high quality applications for sponsorship received across each bi-annual round of sponsorship.”

“We know that these events are largely run by volunteers and the benefits to the community are immeasurable so this assistance is really important for these dedicated event

Please support the advertisers within the News Of The Area organisers and their teams.” All applicants are required to submit an event budget using MidCoast Council’s event budget template, available on the website. Get in before the funding round closes on 28 February. For more information and to begin your sponsorship application, head to www. midcoast.nsw.gov.au/funding.

MYALL COAST News Of The Area O n the Couch Dorin’s Draws By Paul DORIN

with Jasminda Email Jasminda: edit@mcnota.com.au D o you have a pressing problem, annoying anxiety or community conundrum? Jasminda Featherlight, our resident roving Agony Aunt, is here to help. Jasminda will be responding to questions from readers throughout the circulation area of our FOUR News Of The Area papers on a rotating basis. SEND your concerns to Jasminda care of media@newsofthearea.com.au and include your title, initials and suburb.

Dear Jasminda,

During our Valentine’s Day lunch, the conversation turned to what type of animal my husband and I remind each other of. I suggested he was like a lion: tenacious, rugged, muscly and protective. He suggested I was like a wombat. What am I to make of that?

Dear Mrs KD, Mrs KD, Tea Gardens

A wombat. Mmmmm. Well, of course your first thoughts were possibly the physical attributes of a wombat – do you have short broad feet, long incisors, and a stocky barrel shape? No? Ok, perhaps let’s not dwell on the wombat’s physical characteristics. Perhaps your husband was going a bit deeper.

Maybe he was referring to your eating habits. Do you graze for several hours after sunset? No? Are you vegan? No? Okay, let’s continue. Wombats are solitary creatures, so perhaps he meant the amount of time you like to spend alone, or maybe, when you are trying to warn him about something, it is in a low guttural growl. Do you hiss when angered?

Or, given it was Valentine’s Day, maybe he was referring to other habits. Do you attack him for 30 minutes before you mate? Do you consummate your relationship on your sides? Does the courtship phase involve him chasing you in wide circles and then biting your rump?

Look, Mrs KD, I think we both may be overthinking this. I certainly am. Let’s just assume that he thinks you are cute and cuddly. That you were an ‘accidental hero’ during the bushfires, provided a safe space for others when they had no home. That you don’t mind the occasional tummy rub, and that you are also highly intelligent (true wombat fact).

Take it as a compliment.

Carpe diem, Jasminda.

newsofthearea.com.au ASK THE REAL ESTATE EXPERT

HOW IS THE MARKET? “Late last year a reader asked for your thoughts on the new year’s market. You said you were expecting a strong start to the year. I’m just wondering how that’s tracking?”

THANK you for reading my column – and for following up! Since I responded to that question eastern Australia has experienced a horror run of events: continuing drought, furnace-like heat, raging fires, gale force winds, dust storms, torrential rain and now flooding – weather some might describe as biblical! Despite these challenges - and they are serious challenges impacting our local and national economies as well as our emotional fortitude - the market has been surprisingly buoyant, particularly in the Hunter-Mid-North Coast Region. January 31 is acknowledged as the most popular date in the most popular month for people to quit their jobs – holidays over, reassessing their goals, feel like a new start etc. and this may account for the flush of listings and buyers. So, the short answer is yes, our market is particularly strong with good residential, rural lifestyle and investor sales being made throughout January and February and I expect this trend to continue into the popular autumn listing period. Are you thinking of listing or buying? If so, the R&R Team is here to assist.

I hope this helps Denise
