Self Help Slimmers Club Twelve Years On

SELF Help Slimmers Club formed here in Tea Gardens twelve years ago with Ellen Foulstone and Sandra Meade still very much involved with running the Club today.
“During the years our numbers have fluctuated as have our weights. We are not a miracle group but we are here to support each other swapping recipes, talking about food labels and portion control, we encourage homing pigeons when things get bad, ” Ellen Foulstone said.
Sandra Meade told News Of The Area, “Everyone is welcome. We have both men and women join the group, and at the weekly weigh-in we have had some great success stories over the years with substantial weight losses.”
Both Ellen and Sandra agreed, “The key to success is portion control, exercise and leading a happy and healthy life. It’s not easy to lose weight remember you didn’t gain all your weight in one day so you won’t lose it in one day either, be patient with yourself.” The Self Help Slimmers Club meets at the local Country Club in Tea Gardens at five o’clock on a Thursday night and also holds functions throughout the year.

MIDCOAST Council’s Barrington Coast team is partnering with Tourism Australia to urge tourists to ‘Holiday Here This Year’.
In the wake of the devastating bushfire and drought crisis that’s gripping parts of the country, Tourism Australia launched their Holiday Here campaign to urge tourists – particularly Australians – to travel within Australia this year and help support fire and drought affected areas to get back on their feet.
The MidCoast was one of the first areas to be hit hard by the fires between September and November and large parts of the region have been drought stricken for more than 12 months, so never has it been more important to encourage tourism to the area.
“We’re inviting holidaymakers from across Australia to be inspired by the beautiful countryside and breathtaking coastline of the Barrington Coast, revisit an old favourite spot or uncover somewhere completely new,” said Deb Tuckerman, Council’s Manager of Growth, Economic Development and Tourism.
“We are among the first to jump aboard this initiative with our social media campaign starting the same day that the $20 million Tourism Australia campaign was announced. Our posts have already been picked up and shared by Tourism Australia and Visit NSW, reaching thousands of potential visitors.”
Council is also urging local business owners and residents to jump on board with the campaign and capitalise on the exposure opportunities by tagging and promoting themselves on social media. Businesses can download the toolkit of information and tips, available on barringtoncoastbusinesshub.com.au, post photos to their social media channels and

Sharon Bultitude, Destination Management Coordinator for Council’s tourism division ‘Barrington Coast’, said the Barrington Coast campaign for Holiday Here This Year will be positive and optimistic.
“It’s all about working together to support those communities that have been directly and indirectly affected by the fires and drought.
“Over the coming months we’ll be showcasing experiences and regions from across the Barrington Coast to help holidaymakers decide that now more than ever, ‘I’m going to holiday here this year’.”

It is a medium-sized, long-billed, distinctively patterned wader.

The telephone survey, conducted by independent researchers Micromex, has been designed to provide important insight into the local community’s priorities and satisfaction levels when it comes to Council activities, its service delivery, and available facilities.
MidCoast Council’s General Manager, Adrian Panuccio said the results will be used to determine immediate and longerterm priorities, and identify ways Council can provide improved or more efficient service delivery to its residents.
“Feedback about our performance and how people feel about local issues comes in all the time through a range of channels, but formalising the process is important in identifying region-wide sentiment and establishing benchmarks for tracking purposes”, Mr Panuccio said.
The survey involves contacting a sample of 400 people by phone, with representation across the entire region, and across all age brackets 18 years and over. Previous surveys undertaken in 2016 and 2017 have relied primarily on sourcing local phone numbers randomly using the White Pages.
“With many people no longer having a landline at home, especially in the younger age groups, we will be using q That’s One Serious Twitcher mobile numbers to complement numbers generated using traditional methods”. The phone survey commenced yesterday and will continue through to Saturday 22 February. Residents will be asked to provide feedback on a range of Council service areas through a series of questions lasting around 15 to 20 minutes. “We’re encouraging anyone who receives a call to take the time and have your say. We understand everyone is busy,
but your feedback will be instrumental in developing our forward plans”. Calls can be expected between 4pm and 8.30pm Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays between 10am and 4pm. Researchers will clearly identify themselves as calling from Micromex on behalf of MidCoast Council. It is expected the results of the survey will be made available on Council’s website at the beginning of April 2020.
