Peter Alley, Country Labor Candidate for Lyne
This election is an important one for our nation. It is an election where you have a very clear choice and the ability to determine Australia’s future. Australia just cannot afford a change of government at this time. The Liberals and Nationals plan is focussed on creating jobs and growth. We are using the levers of government to invest, while also encouraging the private sector to invest, in key areas of our economy to deliver more growth. In generating more growth, we will help create more jobs and more revenue in which we can invest in key infrastructure and affordable services, while paying back Labor’s debt. The Coalition is investing record funding for infrastructure, health, education, the environment and national security. As a responsible government, the Liberals and Nationals Coalition will certainly not walk away from our obligation to get debt and deficit left to us by the former Labor/Greens/Independent Government under control. The sooner we fix their mess, the sooner we can deliver more of our plans to make our nation an even greater country than it is today. On Saturday 2nd July, I ask for your support to deliver our plan for jobs and growth and deliver even more prosperity for our nation.
I joined the Labor Party over 20 years ago because the Labor Party is the party that brings the big reforms that are needed in our society. Medicare, so that everyone has access to affordable health care. Our Progressive Taxation System that provides that we all contribute to the commonwealth of the nation according to our capacity to contribute. Compulsory Superannuation so that everyone can enjoy a dignified retirement. Single parent pension to help this vulnerable section of the community. The Snowy Mountain Scheme to supply irrigation to the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area and power from a renewable energy source. In more recent times, Labor introduced the Gonski school reforms that ensures that every school in Lyne would be funded according to its needs. A child in Bulahdelah or Tea Gardens deserves the same quality education as a child in North Sydney. It is only a Labor Government that will deliver the Gonski reforms for the full 6 years and beyond. The core plank of Medicare is bulk billing and it is under threat. Only a Labor Government will ensure that bulk billing continues. It is only a Labor Government that will help our nation grow and flourish.

Julie Lyford OAM, Greens candidate for Lyne, is a strong, dedicated and experienced advocate for rural and regional communities. As a former registered nurse, local councillor and mayor, Julie has extensive board and decision-making experience with Hunter Councils, Regional Development Australia (Hunter), Mid Coast Water, Upper Hunter Arts, Tourism and community committees. The Greens are committed to a society that cares for everyone Julie’s priorities are: Action on climate change with transition to renewable energy, Public education and restoration of TAFE funding. Public health, Medicare, NDIS and hospital funding. Fair and equitable taxation reform. Food and water security – sustainable farming. Transparent and trustworthy political processes. Federal recognition of Local Government with no forced amalgamations Strong support for small/medium businesses Recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples Ethical justice for refugees We want to build and support progressive and resilient societies. The communities in Lyne need to grab hold of new opportunities and business models. We have the natural resources. We have the locations. We have the right people. We are at the forefront of the global transition to a better social, economic and environmental future. Let’s build clean energy now for our climate, jobs and the economy.
Government of this country is the largest and most important business we have. Turning things around, socially & financially, will generate positivity in all areas of Australia. It can start with this election. My name is Brad Christensen, your Independent Candidate for Lyne. Having lived on the Mid North Coast all my life, I know the area well. Raised on a dairy farm instilled in me my genuine love for the land, farming and family. I’ve been a dairy farmer, a small business owner for 17 years, GTCC Councillor and an Agricultural assistant at a local High School. Issues of importance to me include: Education: Subject flexibility at High School, Agricultural and Technical Colleges. Rural and Regional Road & Infrastructure Funding: Current allocation criteria requires urgent attention. Business: Promotion and support for our Tourism and all Primary Industries. Government spending: We need to see results. All spending should be accountable, as it should be in any business. Two of the issues that have been brought to my attention in the Myall Coast are the ongoing dredging of Corrie Channel and Sand Dune migration in Myall Lakes National Park. I am committed to working closely with the Myall Coast Community on these and any other issues. Being an Independent enables me to speak freely and vote on your behalf. My decisions will reflect the wishes of my Electorate. Any questions you may have please contact me. Email: bradchristensen.ind@gmail.com Ph: 0424 535 982
Dear fellow members of the electorate of Lyne, As a Christian mother and grandmother I am concerned for the future of my grandchildren. Our Christian heritage on which our nation was build is being attacked in parliament by the media and a noisy few. The traditional and biblical definition of marriage and family is under question. I believe marriage is a sacred relationship for which God ordained for mankind so children can be nurtured, whilst also for help, comfort and companionship of a male and a female to live together in a lasting, loving, lifelong and faithful relationship. As a Special Religious Education teacher over many years, I am passionate that chaplaincy and SRE continues in our schools. As a pastor’s wife I am praying that the freedom to worship and to employ people of like faith in our many and varied avenues of community ministry continues. I am worried about the selling off of Australian assets and farming land to other countries taking jobs away from Australians and especially from our young people. I encourage all to buy Australian made products and give our farmers a fair go, supporting them in times of drought etc.

QUOLL: The little critter caught on camera.
Plain Wetland find THE Bulahdelah Plain Wetland Reserve acquired by MidCoast Council for the protection of water quality in the Myall Lakes system continues to delight environmental staff with amazing wildlife discoveries this time camera surveillance
has revealed the presence of a rare and endangered species, the spotted-tailed quoll. “Following the discovery of a population of the rare longnosed potoroo on the Reserve in 2015, we installed motionactivated cameras to continue to
monitor the area’s biodiversity,” said Council’s Environmental Officer (Great Lakes), Peter Goonan. “We analysed last month’s footage from the cameras and have found images of a spottedtailed quoll on the Reserve, said
Peter Goonan. Like the long-nosed potoroo, the spotted-tailed quoll is threatened with extinction in New South Wales. It is very rare and has been heavily-impacted by habitat loss, modification and fragmentation. Council’s Senior Ecologist (Great Lakes), Mat Bell said ,”It is an exciting discovery and once again proves the value of Council’s wetland management program, not only for water quality protection but for broad biodiversity conservation benefits.” “On the same camera that captured the images of the potoroo and quoll, we also picked up images of a wild dog and a fox. These introduced pest animals compete with quolls for food and shelter,” Mr Goonan said. Controls on pest animals are planned this month to assist the quolls survival in the Reserve, as well as to protect other native wildlife and adjacent landholders’ stock. MidCoast Council will continue to monitor the wildlife in the Reserve in the hope of more wildlife surprises in the future. A short video of the Quoll in the Bulahdelah Plain Wetland Reserve is available on Council’s facebook site, News Of The Area will link to it from our website also.
Funds for use
WITH a pool of $66,000 in funding available, organisations in the Manning, Great Lakes and Gloucester areas are encouraged to make application to MidCoast Water’s annual community sponsorship program. The program aims to assist local groups and organisations by providing them with the opportunity to share in the funding pool for the 2015-16 financial year. To qualify for funding, applicants must demonstrate their communitybased project or event contributes to the social wellbeing of the broader community. General Manager Ken Gouldthorp encourages groups across the MidCoast Water service area to consider making an application. “MidCoast Water takes pride in supporting our local community in their endeavours, and our sponsorship program is one way in which we can do this,” Mr Gouldthorp said. In the past sponsorship has been allocated to a range of organisations for a variety of purposes such as events, festivals, family and community programs and more. Applications for sponsorship are now open. Application forms and more information can be found at www. midcoastwater.com.au/sponsorship or obtained by contacting MidCoast Water on 1300 133 455. Applications close on June 30.

Volunteers are winners By Daniel SAHYOUN TWO local volunteer organisations will share almost $6000 in funding made available through the Federal Government’s Volunteer Grants Program. Bulahdelah Soccer Club received $4450 to go towards the purchase of new equipment including a PA system, outdoor furniture, computer and bar-b-que. Club secretary Joanne Miles said it was “fantastic” to receive the grant which will greatly assist the many volunteers who contribute to running the club. “We definitely need it, we haven’t had any big funding for a few years,” Mrs Miles said. “It’s important that we have the money to keep the club going for the community, it’s is a great social avenue for the kids and helps them keep active.” Mrs Miles also said the purchase of the bar-b-que would bring more money into the club through fundraising efforts of their volunteers. Bulahdelah Visitor
Information Centre (VIC) received $1250 for a new computer system. VIC Volunteer Kevin Carter said the new equipment will improve facilities and services for the volunteer staff. “We have a record number of visitors coming through and at present we are using an old Councilloaned computer that needs replacing,” Mr Carter said. “We appreciate the grant and I am confident the upgrade will allow our volunteers to deliver their services more efficiently.” Mr Carter said the grant was applied for through the Bulahdelah Chamber of Commerce and Tourism of which the VIC is a part of. Making the presentations last weekend, Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie said volunteers are well-recognised by the State and Federal Governments. “These organisations do a fantastic job and add immeasurable value to the community and the Federal Government is very happy to support the volunteers,” he said.

The former GM of Gloucester sought and received a promotion as the GM of Forbes. He will take up the new appointment in July. As expected John Turner and Glenn Handford are working exceptionally well together along with the senior staff. The government has set very strict timelines and milestones to follow and meet and the team is well on track to have a successful MCC up and running well ahead of schedule. The strategic plan for the new council was approved at its inaugural meeting and is now on exhibition for community comment. It must be noted that the 3 council areas are subject to the same rates as last year. There is no rate increase beyond the standard rate pegging. This means that 3 differential rating systems apply across MCC. Whilst the former Great Lakes received approval for an increase beyond the rate peg, as it was dissolved before the increase could be gazetted, it could not be included. The strategic plan on exhibition for next year suggests that a rate increase beyond the rate peg limit should be sought. In refining the protocols for the committees the government has decided that the committees should consist of former councillors and where possible the Administrator should ensure that former councillors represent the council at community events. In our case the number of councillors on the LRC has not yet been decided. The purpose of the LRC is to be the eyes and ears of the community and will generally be run like a council. Several former councillors have advised the administrator that they do not wish to be involved with the MCC. A very small group of councillors known as the Implementation Advisory Group will also be appointed from amongst or in addition to the LRC. The purpose of the IAG will act like an executive

THE new MidCoast Council held its first meeting on the 25th May and whilst it was subjected to a
demonstration and disruption from the Knitting Nannas of Gloucester, the meeting was able to complete the agenda. No former councillors were in attendance except for some from Gloucester, who according to reports, appeared to accompany the demonstration. Even though there is a sole administrator (John Turner) council meetings must be held as if there were councillors present. Television welcomed reception Dear News Of The Area, Regarding story in News Of The Area, 2 June 2016 (Approved by council. Welcomed [TV] reception from community). It’s not before time as we were told the funding was made available 2 years ago, it will be much appreciated as in my home we lose digital reception on most stations every day. Welcome to the policeman
Dear News Of The Area,
From News Of The Area edition 25 May 2016, (‘Welcome to officer’). I would like to welcome Constable Ray to the community. I have only lived in Bulahdelah for just on a year. The only complaint I have is being
Regarding the story in News Of The Area edition 2 June 2016 (Candidate on the Bus goes Hi Hi Hi). Dear Mr Ally - You are totally correct in your analysis of the financial problem facing these three councils and that amalgamation will not resolve the issue. It is hard to see where there are any real benefits for ratepayers in the amalgamation, especially
when you consider the loss of representation. There is one significant (unstated) problem that council amalgamations will assist in addressing, this is the very shallow pool of good Local Government CEO’s and potential CEO’s. Comment on another issue: Regarding Council merger. It is hard to see where there is any benefit in this for the residents of Great lakes.
There is no guarantee the new Mid Coast Council will see much money from the incentives the State Government is offering council’s to amalgamate. Even if they do receive significant funds it will be spent quickly. Amalgamation will generate some cost efficiencies, however many of those could be achieved through greater collaboration on service delivery. Amalgamation will do little to address the basic problem that all three councils share to some extent, which is the rate intake is too low to maintain infrastructure. Also, no one has mentioned the expenses associated with amalgamation which will be considerable and are unbudgeted. Gerrard Milham (Comment from NewsOfTheArea.com.au)

Political stance opinion Let us know your position Dear News Of The Area, We live in an over-governed country, a land with unbridled and mounting debt, yet daily our pollies promise more and more spending to bribe us for a vote; they’ll build us a stairway to heaven, or so we are led to believe, when we know we’ll be left fueling the fires of hell with our taxes, so why?, why?, oh why is it so? Other countries succeed with government’s without the lead weight in the saddle bag of progress known as a SENATE,and they function with two tiers of government, not three, that is, NATIONAL and REGIONAL administrations, but we of course need three. What a waste? And why are we spending up to $100 million of borrowed money in search of Malayasian Airlines MH370 when wonderful hospitals such as the Mater at Waratah, have totally inadequate car parking facilities? Why Gonski, when the Independent Schools Council of Australia and the National Catholic Education Commission are “frustrated with the lack of robustness and stability of the proposed models for funding distribution”? In this technological era, our children are far bettered served than we were 60 years ago and we survived and thrived with 5 years in High School. We should examine the benefits of enabling two short days for three year olds and three for four year olds early childhood education (not Child
Care) to capitalize on studies which point to the greater merit of this and fund this by reverting to 5 years in High School. Why are we throwing billions away in foreign aid, when many of our elderly cannot afford adequate dental care? Why did it take 50 years to returns the bodies of servicemen from the Vietnam War without our major political leaders paying the courtesy of attending the service to acknowledge their return? Why did the government not give a yelp, when Labor said it would enable access for all, to the Government’s paid Maternity and Parental Leave provisions, in addition to any entitlement under other Industrial Instruments, such as an Enterprise Agreement, that is double dipping. A luxury we can ill afford! Why do we persevere with indoor staff in the public sector working a 35 hour week when those in the private sector work 38 hours? Ostensibly a lingering legacy of war-time arrangements? Why do most public servants, with greater security of tenure, have sick leave allotments, nearly twice the standard of the private sector? Naked found A TWENTY-SEVEN-year old female from Sydney who was reported missing from a campground in the Myall Lakes National Park, was located lying naked on the edge of the Myall Lake. Investigations by Police confirm the incident was a result of a reaction to an illicit drug with no suspicious circumstances recorded. Police were called to Dees Corner Campground on Sunday 29 May after concerns were raised about the welfare of the missing female by her friends. An initial search of the area was conducted by Police on their arrival at the campground at 4.00pm. As a result, items of clothing belonging to the female were located in bushland on a track between Dees Corner and Mungo Brush. The female was found a short time later on the edge of the Lake, naked and very cold and wet. She was conveyed to Dees Corner where she was treated on scene by ambulance officers. The Police report states, “Investigations confirmed she had not been subject to foul play, instead had an adverse reaction to illicit drugs she had consumed the night before, namely acid.” The female and her friends had been camping at the campground for the weekend.
Burnouts
TWO teens have been charged with aggravated burnout and other offences following an incident in Allworth last month. Police report vehicles have been using the roads in the town as a private racetrack and burnout skid pan. Police attended an address in Allworth on 31 May and arrested a 16-year-old male and his 17-year-old friend in relation to the illegal street activity. The pair were conveyed to Raymond Terrace Police Station where they were charged with aggravated burnout and driving an uninsured and unregistered vehicle. The teens held learner’s permits only and Police checks showed both had previous recorded offences. The 16-year old male’s permit had been disqualified by the court in January this year. The 17-year old had his learner’s permit suspended by police last month for driving whilst unaccompanied. As a result, the pair were also charged with offences relating to driving with suspended and disqualified permits. Both will appear before Raymond Terrace Children's Court in relation to the charges. Police report that Allworth, located near Booral on the Buckets Way, has seen vehicles attending the township for the purpose of illegal racing and burnouts in recent weeks.

Boy ok after crunching football tackle LEAGUE A 12-year-old boy injured in a Rugby League game at Hawks Nest was released from hospital following a medical assessment. The injury occurred at Myall Park Oval during an inter-schools match between Tea Gardens and Taree West Public Schools on Wednesday 1 June. Paramedics were called at about 12:00pm after the Tea Gardens School student was hurt in a tackle, sustaining a suspected neck injury. He was stabilised by paramedics at the scene before the Westpac Rescue Helicopter arrived. The boy was then treated by the doctor and paramedic on board before being flown to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition. The boy was released after the medical assessment. The Rugby match was part of the PSSA Rugby League Knockout Competition.
Tea Gardens Men’s Bowls Tea Gardens Men’s Bowls By The JAFFA 1 June: What better way to proclaim Winter than with a game of bowls? Fifty-two bowlers thought so when they turned out to play in the Wednesday Nominated Triples competition. Winter did not let them down either as the conditions were somewhat cloudy and cold but, thankfully, fine. Outrageous scores were the order of the day. I mean +55!! Who has +55? Well, I am told, the team of Lon Richards, Lochlam Hair and Mark Hair, (resplendent in a new hat), had a +55 to run out easy winners. On a more respectable score of +41, filling second place was John Younghusband, Ross Barry and Danny Johnson. I believe the Stewards are
looking into the winning team but I think they perhaps should look at who they “played”! 3 June: A stronger field of 22 bowlers today attended to compete for the $300.00 jackpot in the Friday Jackpot Pairs. Paradoxically, it was a triples team that won the day on a very respectable +10. They were; Ken Devlin, Kevin Barbie and Sean Mearrick. They edged out Matt Rumble and Keith Ellis on +8 and Bruce Evertitt and Tom Parkinson on +4. The jackpot was not won but I have a confident feeling it will go off very soon. Who will win it? Might as well be you! 5 June: Well this weekend was supposed to be the opening round of the Club Major Singles Championship. As I write this the rain is just bucketing down so the Match
Committee have postponed the opening games until Saturday 18 June. There are some great matchups and the assured gallery are in for a treat. Needlessly to say there were no Sunday Introduction to Bowls even contemplated and the much awaited visit from the East Maitland Social Bowlers went ahead with plenty of eating and drinking, but without a bowl played! The entry form for the Club Triples Championship has been posted and will close on Friday 2 July. This competition should attract a large field with many teams from Wednesday Nominated Triples sure to enter. Pennant players are reminded that the Pennant Bash will be held on Friday 17 June. See you there!

BOWLS Tea Gardens Women’s Bowls By Kathie RIMMER Tuesday 30th May: There were 26 players and we had 3 games of triples and 1 of fours. The winners were Pauline Perry, Sandra Leisemann and Nola Jackson. The ladies had returned from the State Carnival at Port Macquarie, unfortunately none of our teams qualified for the finals although they all had some very good games. The winning team was Kurri Kurri which is in our area. Thursday 1st June: Only 12 players today so we had 3 games of 3 bowl pairs. The winners were Kerry Faber and Robyn Webster.

Fishing Club Catch FISHING
FROM Page 16 Gibba to Gibba which was held on the following weekend of the 20-22nd May saw in excess of 75 registered fisho’s from Buladelah, Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens Fishing Clubs spread within the boundary of the Surf Club in the south and the Big Gibba Head Land in the North endeavouting to catch fish so their respective clun could amass sufficient points to take the Gibba to Gibba Shield that Tea Gardens Fishing Club has
held for the last 2 years. Thank you to the oustanding efforts of Thomas Evans, Bill and Greg Thrift and 7 others of Tea Gardens Fishing Club who had sufficient points to reain the sheild for Tea Gardens for the 3rd consecutive year. Thomas had Jewfish, Bream and Tailer, Bill and Greg had much the same except Jewfish. The weigh in was conducted by the one and only Grant Bidgood from the Buladelah Fishing Club who were the host for this year. Grant went quite pale when Thomas produced his catch of Jewfish and muttered
something explicit into his beard about the weather. The points for the Shield are as follows; Hawks Nest with 43.9 Points, Buladelah with 53.8 points and Tea Gardens with 60.2 points. Other winners on the weekend were Most points for individual men, 1st Thomas Evans Tea Gardens, 2nd Grant Bidgood Buladelah and 3rd was Greg Smith Hawks Nest. Ladies, 1st Fiona Minett Buladelah, 2nd Kerrie Thompson Buladelah and 3rd Beth Anderson Tea Gardens. Juniors, 1st William Markham Tea Gardens, 2nd Poppy and 3rd Saxon. Well done juniors. Mystery fish was Flathead and won by Andrew Sharp Hawks Nest. Buladelah Fishing Club hosted a BBQ lunch enjoyed by all despite the weather and lack of numbers of fish all agreed it was a successful weekend.
