Bulahdelah RSL sub-Branch commemorates those who have served
By John SAHYOUN
TO commemorate the service of Australian veterans who served in the Korean and Vietnam wars, the Bulahdelah RSL subBranch is hosting a service at the Bulahdelah cenotaph on Friday 18 August 2023 at 11am.
August 18 officially commemorates Vietnam Veterans’ Day, while July 27 2023 marked 70 years since the armistice that ended the Korean war.
Myall Coast News Of The Area asked the president of the Bulahdelah RSL subBranch, Dennis Coulter, why he believed commemorating Australia’s involvement in overseas conflicts was important.
“Most of our young fellas went for beliefs they didn’t hold and some were killed in places like Vietnam,” Mr Coulter said.
“It was about the oppression of communism and freedom often brought about by dictators who wanted to control everything.
“Many refugees from the conflict came to Australia and were grateful for the freedoms we often take for granted,” said Mr Coulter.
The sub-Branch are looking for new members in any of three categories: current service members, ex-affiliate members and auxiliary members.
Membership is also open to British and American ex-defence personnel and youth who have attended cadets.
There are benefits to joining such as the
Veteran White Card, a treatment card that can provide you with medical treatment for accepted service-related injuries or conditions and all mental health conditions (for veterans with continuous full-time service or certain reserve service).
Support is also available through the wider veterans' network, through organisations such as Legacy.
Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month at Bulahdelah Bowling Club, commencing at 6pm.

Newcastle to Narrabri service launched
LOCAL airline FlyPelican last week announced a brandnew direct service between Narrabri and Newcastle, commencing 25 August 2023.
The Narrabri to Newcastle service will initially operate two times a week, providing essential connectivity for both business and leisure travellers.
FlyPelican’s CEO Henry Murcott said there is strong demand for a service to connect essential workers.
“We’re thrilled to introduce this new service, a direct reflection of the
increasing demand and our dedication to serve regional communities.
“It will provide convenient travel for FIFO workers, the agricultural sector, and Hunter New England Health professionals.
“The introduction of this route allows greater opportunity for people in the west to fly to Newcastle Airport and connect seamlessly onward to other destinations.”
Newcastle Airport’s Executive General Manager of Aviation Business
Development and Freight Andrew Warrender welcomed the new addition to FlyPelican’s route map.
“Connecting Narrabri to Newcastle is a great example of how FlyPelican continues to keep regional communities connected.
“Residents of Narrabri can now enjoy swift access to Newcastle's vibrant culture, beautiful beaches, and thriving business scene.

MULLANE & LINDSAY TAKING THE LEAD
One of the biggest difficulties when making parenting orders is that children – and their families – will continue to change. So when finalising orders we have to consider what may happen in the future. This creates the risk that families will return to Court again and again, to change orders as their circumstances change – an outcome that causes uncertainty for children (and exposes them to continued conflict), causes financial and emotional burden on the parents, and strains the resources of the Court.
To overcome this risk, the law developed a principle, first enunciated in the case of Rice & Asplund, that says that parenting orders cannot be re-visited unless there has been a “material change in circumstances”.
When drafting parenting orders it is not uncommon for parents to indicate their
intention – by way of a notation – to leave the door open for variation into the future, for example when a child starts school; however in a recent decision of Halloran & Keats, the Appeals Division of the Federal Circuit and Family Court, confirmed that parents cannot enter into orders to absolve them of the necessity to prove “a material change in circumstances”, and it is not within the power of the Court to make such an order.
So while the circumstances of families and children will continue to change, the law remains clear that before you have a second bite of the cherry you will need to satisfy the Court that the change is material and the orders should be revisited.

Club’s main sponsor.
“The old place was 100 percent noncompliant, and this a huge step up from what you had before,” Ms Washington began, referring to the old facility mere metres away.
“With $100,000 from the State Government, and generous backing from MidCoast Council, we have finally gotten Stage One finished, and are still having conversations about what comes next.”
Mayor Pontin echoed Ms Washington’s sentiments, adding, “I hope everyone can enjoy it.”
The new facility is the result of a relentless push from the Hawks Committee, which Club President Dakka proudly proclaimed as built by local tradies, using local materials, many donated or given at a ‘great price’ by local businesses.
Hawks Vice-President Aaron Neighbour called up President of the Myall River Hawks Juniors, and Hawks Life Member, Ryan Saunders, saying, “It all starts with the kids, and without Ryan, the Juniors would have struggled.
“We all turned up for this club, this jersey, Myall River and Tea Gardens are under the same banner, it’s great to be a Hawk!” Mr Saunders concluded.
Club Secretary Neil Reynolds recognised that the Club has been lucky because “sponsorship has never dwindled, only really increased”.
“We are proud to sponsor the team and grow as a family,” said Ben Hanson, owner of the Tea Gardens Hotel, the Club’s main sponsor.
Local band ‘The Perpetrators’ shook the park with several awesome covers of rock classics, followed by the last home games of the regular seasons for both the Ladies’ and Men’s Hawks teams.

Jomeca plays Matildas to victory
By Thomas O’KEEFE
AWESOME atmospheres were the main job for local DJ Jomeca as she played the Matildas to their victory over Denmark on Monday, 7 August at Stadium Australia.
Since last featuring in News Of The Area, Jomeca, from Karuah, has DJed at four other FIFA Women’s World Cup events, entertaining massive arenas like the Sydney Football Stadium, and witnessing multiple countries face off as they vied for the finals.
“The Matildas vs Denmark game was the biggest by far,” Jomeca told NOTA, as she, once again, entertained a stadium of almost 80,000 people.
An old hand by now, Jomeca gave insight into the art of DJing major international sporting events, with so much more behindthe-scenes than we can glean from the broadcast.
“The main goal is to keep fans engaged before, during and after the match, making a funky groove that all age-groups can enjoy,” Jomeca explained.
“We start out with a nice, centred intro, then build up to kick-off with the energy blazing, and towards the end, hyping up the songs to get the crowd and kids moving, creating a really nice atmosphere.”
Artists like Jomeca must also work within rather specific official song guidelines.
“The individual teams even have their own lists of songs they’d like played when they are warming up, score a goal, and, of course, the post-match victory song.”
The Matildas’ victory song, which we all have heard over the broadcasts by now, is a remix of ‘Land Down Under’, with Sia’s ‘Unstoppable’ also in the mix.
While she says that the Colombians were the most passionate fans, she was blown away by the roar of the crowd when Sam Kerr finally came on against Denmark, saying, “It was just as loud as when the Matildas actually won!”
With a busy schedule packed with more rehearsals in Sydney coming up, Jomeca is slated to perform again at the Grand Final on Sunday, 20 August.
“The Final will be epic, a great game and equally great show,” she said.

Apex Park Jetty Rebuild
By Thomas O’KEEFE
THERE was movement at the jetty on Apex Park, Tea Gardens, this past week, however, it will not be to the extent that most locals were hoping.
As previously reported in the News Of The Area, the Apex Park Jetty has sat in bureaucratic limbo for a while now, with one or more government and private organisations tying up any
progress with red tape.
Extreme remediation efforts have recently begun, including excavation equipment being floated to the jetty on a barge platform, the only way to service the severe damage to date.
“Damage has been caused by a vessel running into the jetty, which is covered by Council insurance, and the current contractors are responsible for fixing only the damage caused by the
Second in Hunter for The Garden Eatery

AWARD-WINNING food stays on the menu, as The Garden Eatery at Tea Gardens Country Club celebrates another win at the Perfect Plate 2023 Competition.
Taking second-place in the ‘Small Clubs’ division in the Hunter and Newcastle Region, The Garden’s Jenny Po and Ly Do went head-tohead with clubs across the Hunter Valley, Newcastle and the region in general.
Their sizzling Creamy Garlic Chicken dish, which conjures up feelings of snug winter nights in front of the fireplace, was reviewed by NOTA at the start of the Competition, and has proven equal to their ever-popular Mongolian Beef dish, which won the same prize in 2022, and is still available to order.
“We’re ecstatic we came second place, as there were so many more clubs who entered – thank you to all
accident,” MidCoast Council Media told NOTA.
MidCoast Council has confirmed that the current activity is not directly related to the intended and longawaited official fix-up work, mainly because Council has been awaiting the go-ahead from Crown Lands, which has been left holding the reins on the stagnant project for some time now.
“A licence has been lodged with Crown Lands for the other work to be undertaken, and pending the release of the licence, Council are hoping to commence the project later this year,” Council Media explained.
As previously reported, several community groups, including the Myall River
our members and guests who purchased and voted for the dish,” Jenny told NOTA.
It comes as a truly bittersweet moment for Jenny and Ly, who have recently announced their imminent departure from Tea Gardens, for family reasons.
Action Group and the Hawks Nest Tea Gardens Progress Association, have expressed dismay at how long the actions are taking to be realised, with one reconstruction grant purportedly running out in December of this year.
In the meantime, as the interminable wait for the Crown Lands approval becomes official, Council is engaging a contractor to carry out the rest of the work that the Apex Park jetty desperately needs, hopefully in time for at least one of the upcoming holiday periods. There has been no specific word on the state of the adjacent boat launch ramp, which remains unchanged and desperately wanting of attention.
“We would like to say thank you for your friendship over the last two and half years, and have thoroughly enjoyed having you dine with us, talking to you and learning more about you each time.”
Jenny and Ly were especially thankful to local members of the Tea Gardens Country Club, who have made them feel welcome and part of the community.
It is not really ‘goodbye’, however, as they are assisting the transition with new manager Jamie, who has been working on delectable new dishes in the kitchen for several months already.
They will also be on hand for some upcoming major events at The Garden Eatery and Country Club, including Bowls Tournaments and the Melbourne Cup.
“We hope you can continue to support The Garden Eatery like you have supported us,” Jenny said.
“Please give Jamie and his team continuous feedback so they can continue making your dining experience better than ever.”

Family History Month 2023
By Thomas O’KEEFE
FAMILY history is celebrated nation-wide this August, and MidCoast Council and local groups, including the Tea Gardens Family Research and Local History Group, are hosting a number of free workshops and one-on-one sessions.
Australia’s multicultural population is a result of several successive waves of immigration, from the First Nations peoples, to the European colonisation, the Gold Rush and even bigger post-WWI and -WWII migration waves, making for a real melting-pot of mixed stories to be rediscovered.
“Family History Month is when groups are encouraged to do something special for their branch and community,” Judith Glover, Secretary of the Tea Gardens Family Research and Local History Group told NOTA.
“We at Tea Gardens Family Research & Local History have organised two different topics to be held at the local library, which are free events.
“On 19 August, 10am-
12pm, Christian Patteson will be talking on 'Growing up in the 1980's here in HN/ TG' and will also be showing a video of the area taken by a Mr Michael Rowe, and it is open to any interested persons.
“On 21 August, we will be hosting a PowerPoint demonstration on 'How to get started with your family research' from 10.30am12.00pm.”
National Family History Month is an initiative of the Australasian Federation of Family History Organisations.
MidCoast Libraries is hosting workshops at Tea Gardens, as well as Taree and Forster during August.
“Digging into your family history can be exciting and rewarding,” said MidCoast Council’s Manager Libraries, Community and Cultural Services, Alex Mills.
Bookings are essential, and anyone interested in the Tea Gardens events should drop into the Library beforehand, or call the Tea Gardens Library on 4997 1265.
Past passed and failed referenda
By Thomas O’KEEFE
BEFORE the ‘Voice’ referendum date is set, News Of The Area presents a glimpse at some successful, and not-so-successful, attempts to change our Federal Constitution, as per the records of the Australian Electoral Commission.
Since Federation in 1901, only eight referenda have been successfully carried, the details of the process outlined previously.
The first successful referenda occurred soon after Federation, in 1906 and 1910, concerning the timing of elections and the Commonwealth’s power to take over State debts, serving as de facto amendments to the still-new Constitution.
A 1928 referendum undid the changes made in 1910, while a 1946 referendum allowed a wider range of post-WWII social services.
The famous 1967 referendum allowed the
Commonwealth to effectively recognise Australian Aboriginals as people, including them in all future census and population counts, and allowing the enactment of laws for that demographic.
The last three successful referendum changes were all held in 1977, when three of four simultaneous questions were carried, concerning the filling of casual Senate vacancies, allowing the Territories to also vote in future referenda, and setting a retiring age for Federal Court judges.
Several notable failures occurred before and after WWI, including attempts across 1911, 1913, 1919, 1926, 1946 and 1948 to give the Commonwealth significant powers over trade, commerce, labour and employment, as well as to nationalise monopolies.
The repeated attempts at such sweeping powers were mainly in the context of post-
war reconstruction, however, the 1951 referendum actually attempted to outlaw the Communist party, and failed by a razor-thin margin.
The 1988 Bicentenary saw another raft of attempted changes, with another fourquestion referendum asking some startlingly prescient questions of the Australian public, including the official recognition of ‘local government’, four-year term limits, and an effective Bill of Rights.
All the 1988 questions, however, failed by wide margins.
The most recent referendum of 1999, asked Australians about becoming a Republic, preceded by much talk and spirited campaigning for and against, ultimately failing, too.
Details can be found at https://www.aec.gov.au/ elections/referendums/ referendum_dates_and_ results.htm.

Beach Season is Coming
By Thomas O’KEEFE
SUMMER is coming, and the Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Surf Life Saving Club is running a volunteer registration Open Day on Sunday, 3 September for any and all interested in helping patrol the ‘best beach in the world’ at Hawks Nest.
“Our Open Day is to help people out with registrations or questions, featuring all areas, like Basic First Aid for the beach, the gear shed and the IRB, jet ski and Pie van,” recently elected Club President Rebecca Curtis told NOTA.
With Nippers starting in early October and Patrols by late September, registrations are already open for both.
“Among the First Aid
mannequins and tourniquets, people can ask questions and see the different roles available at the Surf Club,” Ms Curtis elaborated.
“It’s not Baywatch, you don’t need to meet super criteria, age is not a limit, and it is great for singles, couples, or even families to stay fit and active together.”
TGHN SLSC has seen a significant number of Nippers for its size, and many of the volunteer roles also come with formal certification.
“As a member of the SLSC, we can run you through First Aid courses, radio, even UAVs, catering to all types of people, depending on what you are looking for, and significantly cheaper than outside commercial trainers.”
The NSW Volunteering Taskforce would agree, stating in its November 2022 report that, “Volunteering not only benefits communities, but the volunteers themselves, with improved wellbeing, reduced isolation, increased connection and resilience.”
The SLSC’s possibilities exemplify the Taskforce’s assertion that, “Volunteering for many can be a pathway to employment, and investment in volunteering would provide additional social and economic benefits to individuals, families, communities and the State.”
“It’s social, it’s fitness, it’s an active lifestyle, and you can definitely help the community,” Ms Curtis added.
The TGHN SLSC attracts
volunteers from Bulahdelah, Gloucester, Thornton and Karuah, and brings in helpers
from Merewether. The volunteer Surf Club bar, shut throughout August,
also re-opens on Friday, 1 September.
Nest’s Bennetts Beach –registrations open now, restarting in October.
Lobsters aren't lobsters
Stinker’s Fishin’ and Stories
By John ‘Stinker’ CLARKE
THE waters over and around the rocky outcrops, islands and surrounding reefs from Birubi north to Broughton, and further north to Seal Rocks, have a long and rich history in the trapping of lobsters.
Strange as it may seem, there are no lobsters in Australian waters.
What we catch are Eastern Australian Rock Crayfish, however, for simplicity and market awareness they are called “lobsters”.
My records reach back to the 1880s when Broughton Island was the base for commercial lobster trappers to catch the shellfish in amazing numbers.
Stories I have heard, and photographs I have gathered,
over the years bear witness to a lobster fishery that was beyond belief.
Lobsters were so thick that when the trap was lifted to the surface the lobsters were clinging to the rope or hanging onto the outside of the trap.
In some cases, the weight of the full trap of lobsters was so great that the rope broke under the strain and the trap, full of lobsters, sunk to the bottom.
Following the Worimi folk, Italian, Chinese, Greek
and European lobstermen have, at periods over our history, camped on Broughton Island with the purpose of catching as many lobsters as they could.
The problem which confronted them all, was that lobsters lose their table quality if they die so the challenge was to keep them alive or to cook them on the island.
The Aussie and Greek trappers built wooden cages which were anchored in the calm waters and filled with live lobsters which would be towed back to Nelson Bay, when northerly winds and a run-in tide permitted.
The cages, full of lobsters, were tied to the wharf and were left there until the market price was right or that suitable transport to the markets was available.
Today the lobster industry is controlled by NSW Fisheries and commercial quotas have enabled the population of the prized shellfish to remain healthy. Recreation fishers are permitted to take three lobsters daily with one trap.

Fishing - a lifetime experience
By John ‘Stinker’ CLARKE
AS we head towards Spring into Summer, now is the time to prepare for the warmer months and now is the time to encourage the kids to get involved in what I consider to be the greatest recreation of all – fishing!
The longer you involve yourself and your family in fishing, the more you will realise that there is far more to fishing than catching fish.
I was fortunate to be born into a fishing family in the tiny far northern town of Tweed Heads, where all the kids I knew went surfing, played rugby league, cricket or went fishing.
Being appointed as the PE teacher at the old Nelson Bay High School back in 1975 gave me the opportunity to get back into it.
Having served my apprenticeship on the Tweed I was well prepared for everything that Port Stephens had to offer to the fishing enthusiast – or so I thought.
I had so much to learn as I had never caught a drummer or a groper.
Those fish were never available on the Tweed.
Squid and abalone didn’t
venture that far north and catching snapper inside the estuary system was out of the question.
To explore all the fishing options available in and around Port Stephens I decided to buy a boat.
A new member of the family was introduced some 40 years ago – ‘Stinkpot’,
a brave little 11 foot tinny with 9 horsepower to drive it along. This was when the real fun started, particularly when I purchased a Suzuki 4x4 which enabled me to launch off the corner of Fingal Bay beach.

Happy Hour Donations
By Thomas O’KEEFE
RESIDENTS of Palm Lake Resort, Tea Gardens, donated annual raffles proceeds to three major community service groups on Friday, 11 August.
Recipients included local Ambulance paramedics, the Rural Fire Service, and the Free Clinic Bus.
Gary Revell, local ambo paramedic of several years, gratefully received on behalf of his team a voucher representing a tab set up at the Boatshed Café, a regular stop for our local paramedics.
Helmut Panhuber, Deputy Captain of the PindimarTea Gardens RFS, received on behalf of the local allvolunteer Brigade.
“We will use these funds to expand the station to better accommodate our growing female membership.”
Jan Peeters accepted on behalf of the Free Clinic Bus, sharing anecdotes from a happy bus user who never would have managed without the local, free service functioning and available.
“With 230 people, so far, this year moved by the Free Clinic Bus, we are always grateful for the help to keep getting people to medical
appointments they need to be at,” Ms Peeters added.
The Clinic Bus is due to receive its new vehicle at the end of August, towards which the Bar Committee’s donation will go, as well as other running costs of the local volunteer-driven service.
The Clinic Bus is an especially personal concern, as 18 of the 30 current
Bill Croft, taught me all his tricks and for years I targeted mulloway, thumpers up to 40kg, were hauled over the side of ‘Stinkpot’.
It got to the stage when I was only catching these whopping big fish because I could, so I decided it was time to quit targeting mulloway and move on.
All my mulloway records were filed away and the gear, rods and reels, were hung up in the garage 20 years ago and that’s where they remain to this day.
Snapper has always been the number one attraction to me, visiting Broughton Island as far back as 1976 to chase
these magnificent fish.
Living in Fingal Bay for all those years it didn’t take Einstein to deduce that there should be good snapper spots closer to home than Broughton.
I vividly recall watching the ace of rock fishers Graham Knott drag a monster 9kg up the rocks in front of the lighthouse.
How long has this been going on? I asked myself.
Now, many years later I pretty much spend my boating hours bobbing up and down in ‘Stinkpot’, pretty close to where I witnessed
pleasure for me to sit out among the whales, dolphins, turtles, seals, sea eagles and gooney birds tossing baits into the surging water as it breaks over the shallow reef. Snapper country.
Returning home with a few cracker snapper for the kitchen, after a day on the water, makes it all worthwhile.
As I said, there is more to fishing than catching fish.
I will leave it up to you to prepare the kids in your family to go fishing in the warmer months.
I guarantee, they will be
volunteer drivers are, in fact, residents at Palm Lake Resort.
The PLR Bar Committee is a residents’ group, which runs a club bar that sells to the residents of the Resort, buying stock from local vendors, and has been
running for the last ten years.
Volunteers service the bar, and also cook in the kitchen at the fortnightly Happy Hour raffles, inside the magnificently decorated Promenade building at Palm Lake Tea Gardens.
The monies donated on
11 August were raised over the past 12 months of raffles.
“We are happy to run this for the community, by the community,” Graham Reynolds, organiser of the Bar Committee raffles, told NOTA.

Dorin’s Draws By Paul DORIN
Dear Jasminda, WHY do so many people's workplace greetings via email include exclamation marks now?
Is this a new marketing competency?
Tina L.
An exclamation mark is useful when you need to express very strong feelings.
Here are some examples of when I think an exclamation mark is suitable:
It's quadruplet boys!
Are you home, Gladys?
There's smoke billowing out of your kitchen!
Helen, if you drop in, don't pat the dog. She bites!
And some examples of when an exclamation mark is not required:
Dear Tina! Thanks so much for getting back in touch!
Don't forget the staff meeting at 5 today!!! Sally is taking the minutes!
The Write Direction
By John BLACKBOURN
Creating offence
MY favourite expression of all time is: 'We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so that stupid people won’t be offended.'
This reality seems to ring true everywhere in our lives.
When we point out issues we are branded as cranky old people and get lumped in with the perennial whingers in our society.
The current point of interest is the Victorian Government's decision to abandon its sponsorship of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in regional Victoria.
As we understand the process, the
Victorian Government was to apply for the 2034 games.
When the process to select the games host for the 2026 games became available, the Victorian Government immediately jumped in and brought forward their planning.
This had the convenient effect of gaining kudos just before the next election.
So, was this a good decision?
No other nation, state or location had put forward any indication that they were interested in hosting the running of those Commonwealth Games.
In our commercial world, the fact that there was no buyer in the market for that product should have provided the first red flag.
Victoria promotes itself as the sporting location of choice for major events in Australia.
Hosting the F1 motor racing GP, the Aussie Open and the Boxing Day cricket test each year, they saw themselves as the logical location for the Commonwealth Games.
Even better was the fact that, rather than holding the event in Melbourne city, the Commonwealth Games were to be located in the regional areas of the State.
Dear Tina,
I AGREE. There is a time and a place for exclamation marks, but they should be used sparingly.
Increasingly, more and more people insert exclamation marks throughout their emails and other correspondence to the point where everyone sounds permanently excited.
Politically this was a master stroke that most voting citizens would have been in favour of.
It seems, at last, politicians have recognized that there are voters in the bush.
This event would require many of regional Victoria’s sporting venues to be extensively remodelled.
A number of locations would require completely new facilities.
One regional location would get the athletics, another would host the cycling, another might get the golf or the rugby 7s, the shooting, the archery, the swimming.
All those wonderful sporting opportunities would be shared around the region.
Every region was going to be a winner.
What a wonderful opportunity for regional Victoria.
In addition, decentralisation might then be delivered once all the facilities were in place and operating successfully, in order to justify one’s ability to move and settle permanently in a regional area of choice.
Lower cost of housing, easier reach to schools, hospitals, less issues with travelling and parking, the close proximity to shopping and all the benefits people
Electric Vehicle Opportunity
DEAR News Of The Area,
AS an electric car enthusiast I was delighted to hear that publicly available charging for electric vehicles was to be installed in Booner Street opposite the Benchmark in Hawks Nest and astonished
that within a week or so the chargers were up and running.
Doubtless this was the result of long and onerous work behind the scenes, so thanks to all the people who made it happen.
Recently I have made a few longer
Lack of detail on Voice not PM’s fault
DEAR News Of The Area,
THE points raised by Dr Hunter a couple of issues ago were well made and necessary. There is one more though, that counts for misinformation and an only slightly hidden agenda.
When the arch-conservative white wingers claim that the Prime Minister is at fault for not disclosing just how the Voice would work, it is for the purpose of discrediting the PM, so that in the event of a “no” vote
success, claims of incompetence can be made, together with demands to vote him out and vote us in!
After all, we are the only people who know how to run the country!
In my opinion, the Voice can never be a gutter politics matter.
It is a humanitarian decision properly to be made by the whole of the Australian population.
Here is the fact though.
It is not the privilege of the PM to tell us how the Voice would work, that privilege
distance journeys, and my experience has reinforced my sense that Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest should aim to promote themselves as an electric vehicle-friendly holiday destination.
We could start with “Our towns love electric vehicles” signage at the entrance
I'm taking this opportunity to loop back to you to see if you are interested in selling your home!!!
I'll reach out to you next week!
Overuse of exclamation marks takes away the impact of this misunderstood form of punctuation.
It's a bit like the overuse of swear words in conversation.
seek in life.
Holding the Games in and around your area would see the Government involved in better providing for a growing population in a higher quality environment to the benefit of all involved.
Everyone should be happy, right?
There is just one problem here, no one thought to cost the whole episode. The perception was that everything would cost less in the regions, so the $1.8 billion figure stated as being the cost of the previous games was well within the borrowing capacity of the Victorian Government.
Plus, the Federal Government was also expected to contribute major dollars towards this exciting concept.
May I invite you to re-read the opening paragraph in this opinion piece which may help every sports lover to understand the reality of this exercise, because Victorian ratepayers and taxpayers are surely going to feel the financial impact of this rash move for many years to come, commonly guessed to be in excess of a conservative $1 billion worth of fines madness, in compensation.
to Tea Gardens with the other welcome signs.
Electric car owners look for accommodation with charging facilities onsite or nearby, and will bypass villages which don’t offer these services.
Yours, M J SUTCLIFFE, Hawks Nest.
Have Your Say
belongs to the whole of Parliament.
It is necessary that the whole of Parliament determines this matter, for the sake of avoiding future ugly partisan political disruptions to the consultative process of Voice/Parliament negotiations.
And if the PM did have that privilege, it would be a first in the history of our Constitution.
It is also worthy of note that referendum votes have never spelled out the “how” of any process, only the “what”.
Regards, Warwick NICHOLS, Tea Gardens.

TUESDAY 8th August: The Semi Final of the Minor Singles Competition was played plus social bowls. Spectators certainly were not disappointed with the standard of bowling in this Semi Final. Lyn gained 5 points over the next 2 ends (24 v 19), she only needed 1 more point to claim victory. Alas for her this never eventuated Jeanette winning the next 6 ends, winning on the 29th end 25 v 24. Deyonne Page and Irene Roberts battled for 35 ends, such a close game all the way Irene
winning 26 v 23. Social bowls played a game of 3 bowls Triples and 2 games of Pairs all 18 ends, a big win to Deb Gardner, Dawn May and Dale Winter 27 v Sheril Johnson, Pam Gilchrist and Bette Saillard 8. Thursday 10th August: The Final of the Minor Singles, Jeanette Emmett v Irene Roberts once again a great display of bowling by both competitors, such a close game 28 ends bowled

FOLLOWING the opening of the new Myall Park Sports Complex, the Lady Hawks flew back to the Nest with their final home game against Thornton-Beresfield Bears on Saturday, 12 August.
On a gorgeous, breezy 23-degree afternoon in the middle of August, the Lady Hawks concluded their season by running onto the field with the hard-rock intro from The Perpetrators.
The Bears scored first, and kept the ball in the Lady Hawks’ back half with a sustained offensive push.
The Hawks held fast in the centre, forcing the Bears to struggle sideways, and settle for a try on the far right wing, unconvertable being too far out for the Bears’ kicker.
Hawks’ defence intensified, with many aggressive double-taggings to remind the Bears’ players
that this was not the same Lady Hawks they had faced at the 36-0 drubbing back in June.
The rest of the first half saw a strong Lady Hawks’ line hold off any more tries from the Bears.
The second half started as the first had ended, the Hawks denying a steady strafing from the Bears up and down their try-line, then pushing away back up the field to 10 metres out.
Dodges and opposition fumbles put the Hawks within a few heart-pounding inches of scoring, but the Bears’ defence held strong, too.
Until six minutes left, neither side had managed a second-half score.
With just two and a half minutes left, like a flash of lightning out of the clear blue sky, Hawks’ Sophie Frazer took the ball and sprinted all the way up the right wing, swooped round like a raptor
and planted the Hawks sole try in between the posts.
Sophie then had the honour of converting her

game for abusive language, a self-inflicted blow to their already low manpower.
Sonny Marks, Zac Atkins and Benjamin Taylor scored more tries in steady succession, with the Hawks establishing total domination over the Cheetahs by 25 minutes in, reinforced by a seventh try
going to John Schultz for his 100th game.
Just before half-time the Cheetahs found their try-line, but straight after, Hawks’ Ryan Saunders and Luke Perry swooped again for the eighth and ninth tries, within seven minutes.
The Cheetahs’ consolation try, consoled little, the impossible scoremargin kept so when Ethan Tito leapt from dummy-half
on the line, making the tenth try for the Hawks.
All eight successful conversions were made by Shaquiel Saunders, a phenomenal start to his Seniors career, and likely going on to bigger places soon.
A merciful 23-minute early-end was called with Waratah-Mayfield running out of players, the score 5212.
Waratah-Mayfield were thanked for their efforts pulling together just enough to run the game.
Carl Williams and John Schultz both reached the
major milestone of 100 Hawks games each, and were presented their honours after the match by local legend Brooke Roach.
In a fitting finale to the season, and to the ‘Back to the Next’ Sponsors and Old Boys Day at the home field, the 2023 Hawks finished at
third on the competition ladder, and now look to the finals season, starting next weekend.
