your race and it certainly doesn’t care about your age. The Leukaemia Foundation World’s Greatest Shave has been in existence for twenty years as of 2018, and it has raised millions to help the fight against blood cancer. Thousands upon thousands of people have shaved or coloured their hair in the name of this Charity to help science create a better future, a future where a blood cancer diagnosis doesn’t mean a long hard road ahead. Members of the NSW Police Force are certainly not immune to this terrible disease, nor are the members of their family. As such, members of the Port Stephens Local Area Command are taking the plunge and shaving their heads to raise money for a cause that is very close to all involved.

“Our intent is to highlight and celebrate this special Day and to support young women in our community to become leaders.” “When women support women we win and when women and men support women we all win.” A fundraising raffle was held, with all proceeds directed towards the Port Stephens Family and Neighbourhood Services. Prizes for an online auction were donated by local artist Ms Jenny Crozier to support the Chief Inspector Tony Townsend and Senior Constable Aaron Tull from Raymond Terrace Police Station, as well as Senior Constable Luke Rogers from Lemon Tree Passage Police Station will be having their heads shaved at 2pm at MarketPlace Raymond Terrace. Senior Constable Luke Rogers told News Of The Area, “My Grandmother and Aunty both died from cancer, and my Sisterin-Law had cancer but is thankfully in remission.” “Anything to help support the cause, even

community Group. Ms Swanson also spoke at the Breakfast, saying, “We do have terrific people from a terrific part of the world.” She also reminded those in attendance of the serious side to the need for an International Women’s Day, saying, “We have a responsibility to make our area a safe one for women.” “The fastest rate of homelessness is women aged over 55.” “In a country like Australia, that is unacceptable.” Speaking at the event,

if it is just to give a small donation, because every little bit helps.” Chief Inspector Tony Townsend told News Of The Area, “l was diagnosed with Leukaemia in 2013 and spent twelve months in hospital undergoing chemotherapy, and also received a bone marrow transplant.” “Senior Constable Aaron Tull’s young Daughter Amelia also suffered from Leukaemia in 2012 and had extensive treatment, and thankfully we are both in remission now.”

Principal of Hunter River High School, Mrs Debbie Dibley gave a powerful personal testimony of her experiences as a young woman and overcoming adversity to become an Educational leader. Mrs Dibley told the School Student leaders and others in attendance, “My message to my students is, education provides focus and education truly changes lives.”

“All three of us have been living and working in the local area for many years. For example, I first moved to the area back in 1988,” he said. “We’re locals trying to generate some local support to give any financial assistance that can be given, to allow further research to help prevent and cure this disease which will in turn save many lives,” Chief Inspector Townsend added.

some in the local fish shop as SA and the waters of Spencers Gulf are a known haunt of this species,” he added. “Fillets were being sold for $70 kg!” News Of The Area asked why, and we were told that the fish were flown to Japan to be processed and then flown back to be sold close to where they were caught. “This was a round trip of some 15,000km! Cheap Asian labour was cited as the reason,” he added. “Where to next?” we asked the dynamic duo. Judy said that England was the next item on their ‘bucket’ list as she had always yearned to visit the Roman city of Bath. Geoff, a local cricket legend in his heyday, wants to check out Lord’s Cricket Ground where many an Ashes Test has been played. “The ‘Long Room’ there is open to the public out of season and its a virtual museum of portraits and cricket memorabilia,” he said. Judy still has a passion for the outback as she believes that Australia is ‘the greatest country on Earth’ and advised that their next planned safari will be a journey along the Oodnadatta track in SA.

JUDY and Geoff Camm have recently returned from a two month odyssey across the Nularbor in their caravan.
