The Princeton Battlefield Society (PBS) celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2021. The mission of PBS since its founding has been: to acquire, protect, preserve, and restore the lands and cultural landscape related to the Battle of Princeton of Jan. 3, 1777; to enlarge and improve the Princeton Battlefield State Park; and to educate the public about the Battle of Princeton, the Ten Crucial Days, and the American Revolution. PBS has been active in all of these areas in recent years, including: working with the American Battlefield Trust (ABT) to acquire an additional 15 acres of land encompassing part of the historic battlefield; expanding and enhancing exhibits in the Thomas Clarke House, the sole remaining building on the property from the time of the battle; and supporting a recent educational initiative “Eyewitness of the American Revolution”, featuring the stories of individuals in in the Princeton area participating in or affected by the battle, both as ‘Eyewitness Cards’ provided to members of the public

events and to schools in the region and in live video versions with historical reenactors presented on YouTube.

PBS’ signature activity in historic education is its annual program of events at the battlefield, notably “Young Patriots Day” in September – focused on youth education –and “Experience the Battle of Princeton” – a re-enactment presented each January. This year’s event on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023 will mark the 246th anniversary of the battle and will include a narrated reenactment of key portions of this pivotal battle.

It will take place between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. and feature reenactors portraying both Crown and Continental forces, after which, attendees will have an opportunity to interact and converse with these living historians. At 11:30 a.m., the NJ Society, Sons of the American Revolution will join other hereditary organizations and representatives of legacy National Guard and British Army units whose antecedents fought at the battle in a wreath laying ceremony at the

Memorial Grove behind the Colonnade on the battlefield.

Full details registration for the event are

on the PBS website at www.pbs1777.org.

Pro Musica presents A Feast of Carols

Princeton Pro Musica, American Prize Award winner for choral performance, will present A Feast of Carols on Sunday, December 11, at 4:00 p.m. in Richardson Auditorium on the campus of Princeton University. Favorite movements of Handel’s Messiah, Christmas music of J. S. Bach, and selections from Margaret Bonds’ Ballad of the Brown King and her Go Tell it on the Mountain are interwoven amongst a sumptuous, sparkling medley of classic carols and beloved holiday songs arranged and orchestrated by Artistic Director, Ryan James Brandau. With a chorus of 90+, a full professional orchestra, two outstanding vocal soloists, and even a singalong or two, this is truly

a feast for the ears.

High lyric soprano Heather Phillips, whose performances have been described by Opera News as “beautiful” and “shimmering,” is continuing to garner critical acclaim with reputable performances on the opera and concert stage. Bass-baritone Joseph Parrish, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, has sung with the Asheville Lyric Opera and the Cincinnati Opera. Voce Di Meche recently described his voice as having “deeply resonant tone that is never booming but rather subtly colored.” This is the Princeton Pro Musica debut for both vocalists.

The Princeton University Art Museum wishes you a healthy, happy holiday season!

The Princeton University Art Museum Store celebrates the holidays with handcrafted works and art-related gifts for everyone on your list. We are committed to supporting working artisans who are experts in their respective crafts, and we are excited to feature more than 40 regional artisans this holiday season.

Glass artists Dan and Jill Burstein create Venetian-style or murrine vases in their New Hope, PA, studio. In his Hopewell, NJ, studio, Scott Staats creates stunning color glasses and bottle stoppers. Mary Angus of Readsboro, VT, constructs delicate glass candy canes from layers of transparent and opaque glass.

Platters with gentle swooped edges, created by Highland Park, NJ, artist Bryan Weitz, are beautiful by themselves or presented with food. Ryan Greenheck from Philadelphia, PA, creates mugs and bowls with a splash of color on the inside.

Jewelry is ever-changing, with artisans using leather, semi-precious stones, gold, and silver to design pieces at all price points. Ashka Dymel, from Brooklyn, NY, creates eye-popping necklaces and earrings featuring her mixed-metal contemporary designs. Meanwhile, Michelle Pressler of Philadelphia, PA, crochets tiny gemstones in delicate arrays of colors.

Peter Jacobson of Fort Washington, PA, uses felled Pennsylvania hardwood to craft a food-safe, functional collection of bowls and platters. Hand-pieced oval and round wood trays by Robert Patterson of Milton, GA, are likewise exquisite as decorative pieces.

Baltimore-based textile artist Susie Lipscher reworks vintage kimono fabrics into silk scarves, and Jane Runyeon of Wyomissing, PA, paints original, colorful patterns on large silk and cotton scarves.

Alongside these handcrafted works, discover art puzzles, notecards, calendars, Museum publications, and art supplies for kids of any age.

Have

ever thought about what it would be like to fly an airplane?

Imagine sitting in the pilot seat and looking straight out to the horizon to see the blue skies and clouds. And then when you look to your right you see the Philadelphia skyline and to your left New York City the skyline. Flying is an incredible feeling. Talk about seeing the world from a different perspective. Ok, maybe you have flown in a commercial plane to Florida or Utah, but there is something so unique about flying in a single engine airplane. When flying in a Cessna Skyhawk, you are seeing the world from a completely different view than on the ground or a commercial jet. The Princeton Flying School at the Princeton Airport offers an extraordinary experience of an Introductory Flying Lesson.

In the beginning you will go through a pre-flight inspection to ensure the airplane is

ready for flight, as all pilots do. Then, you will spend an hour in the air with a certified flight instructor going over some basic maneuvers. You will even get a chance to fly the airplane yourself! But do not worry; there are dual controls in the planes, so the instructor is there to assist you the entire time.

When people return from their first Introductory Flying Lesson they are elated and often speechless. Many have said it was their dream to fly a plane, and it finally came true! This is a very special hour. Not only is this a special experience, but it counts as your first hour towards getting your Private Pilot’s License. Many students are inspired during their Introductory Flying Lesson to continue to study and train for their Private Pilot’s License, while others are completely captivated by this hour and feel fulfilled. Either way, flying an airplane is something very special and you have the power to be the one

who makes this experience possible.

An Introductory Flying Lesson is the perfect gift to give to that someone who seems to have everything and you just don’t know what to buy. What better gift than an experience of a lifetime. This holiday season

struggle no more when it comes to gift giving. As long as they are tall enough to reach the pedals, they can fly.

Call 609-921-3100 for more information or visit us on the web at www.PrincetonFlyingSchool.com Happy flying!
