Time to Play

he kiddos are back in school, now it’s time for the adults to play! Embrace your inner child and play your favorite games -- bridge, mah jongg, pinochle, and canasta -- at Game Friendzy. “Children and grandchildren are back in the classroom, so now parents and grandparents can devote some time to leisure play that’s fun, social, and brain-stimulating,” says Game Friendzy owner Bernadette Hennessy May. Game Friendzy offers two options for play and lessons -- faceto-face and virtual. Prefer to play, interact, and chat with partners and opponents live, across a real table? Game Friendzy hosts in-person pickup games for bridge, mah jongg, canasta, and pinochle, in a private game room located in the Conservatory of Musical Arts, 57 E. Kings Highway, Audubon. Bridge pickup games are available the first, third, and fifth Thursdays; mah jongg the first, third, and fifth Fridays; canasta the second and fourth Fridays, and pinochle the second and fourth Thursdays. The in-person game sessions run 10

am-12 pm and cost $8/person. No reservation is necessary. Come alone or with a partner; tables are formed as players arrive. Rather play from the comfort of your own home? Game Friendzy also offers virtual gaming and learning options via the free internet programs Zoom and Shark Bridge. Casual, supervised online pickup bridge games are available Tuesdays, 10-11:30 am. The fee is $5/player/session. For the more competitive, Game Friendzy also offers online American Contract Bridge League tournament play. And for those who’d like to learn how to play bridge or just polish their skills, Game Friendzy offers online lessons for beginner to advanced players. New classes starting October 4 include Introduction to Bridge, Play of the Hand, Introduction to the 2/1 Game Force System, and Defense in the 21st Century. Visit the Game Friendzy calendar at www.gamefriendzy. com/calendar to see all the options or call Game Friendzy today at 856-795-PLAY (7529) with questions or to register for a class. ■

formerly known as Wholesale Mattress Warehouse

o Bull Mattress & More truly is the little guy the big guys hope you don’t find. That is their motto, and there may not be a more fitting one for any business anywhere. Located in a little warehouse next to Dunkin’ Donuts at 2060 Springdale Road in Cherry Hill, take one step inside the front door and you will instantly realize it is unlike any mattress store you have ever been in. Imagine walking into a discount store and finding every item marked down lower than it has ever been marked down before. That is what it is like in their warehouse every minute of every day. Carole Cutry is the owner and sole operator. With no employees, virtually no paid ad-

vertising and operating out of a warehouse rather than a big expensive showroom, she simply does not have the overhead that all the others have and can therefore hit lower price points. How much lower you ask? Shockingly, every mattress in her warehouse is 55 percent to 80 percent lower than regular store prices. Not only has she taken all of the overhead out of buying a mattress, she also eliminated the deceptive advertising, phony sales and high pressure sales tactics that are unfortunately all too common nowadays. “My goal is for my customers to have fun buying a mattress,” Cutry says. “And if they are able to come here and find

lower prices than they will ever see them any place else ever again, every minute of every day, and not have to haggle for those prices, that is a fun buying experience. I want every person that walks out of here to have a smile on their face. We want to be a breath of fresh air in the marketplace.” Saving every customer 55 percent to 80 percent every minute of every day in a no haggle, no hassle, no pressure environment? That’s a breath of fresh air alright. Keep it up, Carole! JB Bakery, where everything is always Just Baked, and people are always smiling

B Bakery began as a bagel and bread shop in 1952. Over time, ownership passed from family to family, and the product line increased. Fifteen years ago, Burlington native Stephen Simon purchased JB and made it what it is today: a local landmark and dessert lover’s paradise that is regularly voted one of Burlington County’s best bakeries. Originally, JB stood for “John’s Burlington Bakery”, the bakery’s founders, Mr. Simon sees it as “Always Just Baked” because it operates 24 hours a day to produce freshbaked products. At JB, professional bakers and pastry chefs employ traditional methods to perfect the art of dessert making. They use scratch mixes and high-quality ingredients free of preservatives and imitation flavors, with the human element involved from creation to

consumption. The bakery offers hard-to-find specialties from all over the world, holiday delicacies, seasonal specials, fresh bread and rolls, a coffee bar, and exceptional service. The chefs design custom cakes for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, Sweet 16s, Bar and Bat Mitzvah, holidays, reunions, and many other occasions; by establishing relationships with customers and listening to their ideas, JB’s all-star staff turns cake dreams into reality. Through the years, JB has become a Burlington County landmark. It is annually featured in the local news, and people visit from out-of-state to tour the facility and taste the sweets. Guests cherish walking in and experiencing the rich aroma that is unique to real, old-fashioned bakeries. A few years ago, JB gained fame for introducing its ever-popular

“Whale Cookie,” a sugary delight inspired by the brave beluga that swam the Delaware River. The bakery was especially honored to host Food Network Chef Robert Irvine for an episode of Dinner Impossible, entitled “Nightshift: Impossible”, during which Irvine used JB’s old-world techniques and machinery to pull a culinary

all-nighter. Above all, JB is a family bakery and a part of the local community. Generations have come to regard it as “their” bakery, and it is common for people who grew up with JB birthday cakes to feature JB at their weddings as well. It is the official bakery of Burlington’s Wood Street Fair and supports

other local events such as Festival of Lights, Bike Night, and the car show. JB frequently makes gift and product donations to local organizations and fundraising efforts, and it creates jobs for community members. Come visit us at 712 S High St, Burlington or call Today (609)386-2295 ■

Nicky’s Festival

O

n September 25th, 2021, The Nicky Green Foundation will be hosting the Tenth Annual Nicky’s Festival at the FLYING W RESORT in Medford, NJ from 3-7pm. We have held this annual event for the past nine years, and we are looking forward to this year. This event has continued to help raise funds to support the

various outreach activities on youth suicide awareness and prevention that the Foundation participates in. The Nicky Green Foundation’s mission is to raise awareness and to promote the prevention of youth suicide. The statistics regarding youth suicide is frightening. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for

teenagers, a fact that continues to be all too real for many. In working with youth, the Foundation expresses to them that there is no shame or judgement to be made if they are feeling down, depressed or just not good about themselves. We stress the need to have kidsplease see NICKY'S, page 6

Make Your Fitness Victory a Triumph Over Cancer

W

e know that healthy habits can affect a person’s risk for cancer and other diseases including heart disease and diabetes. This is because getting enough physical activity and eating healthy foods can help our bodies work as well as possible. And there is growing evidence that cancer survivors who have these healthy habits have better quality of life and might have better treatment outcomes. The American Cancer Society recommends adults get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity activity each week. Moderate activities make you breathe as hard as you would during a brisk walk. Vigorous activities use your large muscle groups and make your heartbeat faster, make you breathe faster and deeper, and make you sweat. As we challenge ourselves to eat healthy and get active, let’s help reduce cancer risks not only for ourselves but also for our community. You can make your miles more meaningful by joining the American Cancer Society 49th annual BikeA-Thon Bridge to the Beach on Sunday, September 19, 2021.

This DetermiNation program will help you achieve your personal fitness goals and change the course of cancer forever. The ride features four startpoints with six route options (including a century route) giving you the freedom to ride a short, medium or long distance. Or go virtual and set your own miles to complete at your pace. With access to professional training, an unparalleled community of support, and inspiration every step of the way, the American Cancer Society will help make your ride a triumph over cancer. When you join Bike-A-Thon you’re not just participating in an endurance event. You’re joining a community of cancer fighters, who for nearly 50 years have pushed themselves to help save lives from cancer. Every pedal pushes us closer to breakthrough research and provides those in need access to a 24/7 cancer helpline. Together, through the fundraising efforts and dedication of our cyclists and volunteers, we are fighting cancer smarter, better and harder than we ever have before. Sign up to save lives or learn at www.acsbike.org. ■

BIKE-A-THON Just like hard work goes into your training, the American Cancer Society gives our all through things like breakthrough research, a 24/7 cancer helpline, and free rides to chemo. As part of DetermiNation, you’ll help us stay relentless in the fight.
