The benefits of Biking to school: For years, studies have shown that kids of all ages that bike to school, have a number of advantages than the kids that take the bus or car pool. Children that ride bikes or walk to school are able to concentrate more efficiently on their daily tasks. This concentration can last longer well into the day. The “Mass Experiment 2012” project examined the connection between concentration, diet and exercise among 20,000 schoolaged children aged 5 to 19. This study and numerous other clinical studies have found that riding to school not only greatly improves learning, but health, physical and social skills. It has also shown that children that ride bikes to school have a stronger connection to the community, as well as improved independence,
along with better family bonding. All in all, the study showed that kids that ride to school have
improved cardio fitness and reduced body fat. This is a result of the additional three percent more time of moderate to rigorous physical activity, which can
equate to an extra 24 minutes of activity per day. This contributes to riding where children have sustained high activity levels throughout the day, reducing obesity and improved bone structure. Studies are also beginning to show that exposure to nature and free outdoor play can reduce stress and relieve ADHD symptoms. Children that ride bikes to school are also helping to save the planet. In doing so, they are improving the air quality and reducing carbon monoxide emissions from buses and cars.
