Coach: Cullen Riner, 7th year (31-31) Last season’s record/ playoff finish: 13-0, Eight-Man Division I state champions Returning starters: 4 offense, 4 defense Top returning players: Roxton Brown, 6-0, 205, sr., LB; Denton Schurr, 5-9, 170, sr., RB/ DB; Byrone Roenne, 5-10, 185, sr., OL: Kade Miller, 6-0, 165, jr., TE/DB; Darrien Holloway, 5-11, 165, soph., RB. Team notes: When Osborne wins state championships in eight-man, the Bulldogs do it in impressive fashion. In 2013, the Bulldogs set an eight-man scoring record by putting up 760 points en route to the Eight-Man Division I championship, the school’s first. Then last year, they did it again. The Bulldogs went 13-0 once again and put up 764 points to claim the state title, a fourth-quarter come-from-behind win against St. Francis. The Bulldogs once again look poised to be a state title contender, but will have to fill some big shoes
left behind by the graduation of Cullen Grabast and Derek Naegele, both of whom are with the McPherson College program. In addition, the Bulldogs graduated quarterback Justin Burch, who came back from an ankle injury to play in the title game a year ago. But, the Bulldogs return a wealth of talent, led by senior Denton Schurr, the title team’s leading rusher. Schurr had 180 carries a season ago for 1,788 yards and 31 touchdowns (second only to Grabast). He also was one of the team’s top tacklers with 74. Also big returners on defense are senior Roxton Brown (78 tackles) and junior Kade Miller (76). Darrien Holloway saw key time as a freshman after transferring from Russell. He collected 82 carries in a backup role for 626 yards and 17 scores. In addition, junior Darnell Holloway joins the team after transferring from Russell, but having to sit out last fall. The Bulldogs again will have to contend with the likes of Victoria, Logan-Palco and Bennington for a playoff spot.
