Braydon Delziet
Delziet, a senior at Hays High, got his final wrestling campaign with the Indians underway with a 21-3 start on the mat as of Jan. 14. Delziet is the no.3-ranked wrestler at the 220-pound division for Class 4A. Two of Delziet’s losses came by 6-4 decisions against Oakley’s Chris Cox on Dec. 11, the other coming in a 6-5 decision to Mulvane’s Dylan Jorns. Delziet rallied off 12 straight victories, seven coming by way of fall with the rest as a result of a forfeit. Delziet has 13 victories via fall through Jan. 12.
Jake Stoppel
The senior forward for the Fort Hays State University men’s basketball team recorded his third double-double of the season in a win against MIssouri Southern on Jan. 4. The Wilson native was averaging more than 11 points per game while hauling in six rebounds. He had scored in double figures in eight games to help the Tigers amass an 11-4 record as of Jan. 13.
Jon Inman
After putting a lot of work in the weight room last offseason, Fort Hays State University junior Jon Inman is seeing the benefits this year. Inman, the No. 6-ranked wrestler at 184 pounds, suffered just one loss through eight competitions this year. Inman won individual championships at the Bethany College Open, Nebraska-Kearney open and FHSU’s Bob Smith Open. The junior’s only loss prior to Jan. 16 came in at Newman’s Jet Invitational on Dec. 13.
Audra Schmeidler
Schmeidler, a senior forward, led the Hays High School girls’ basketball team as it builds on last year’s rough season that ended with a 6-15 record. The Indians were close to surpassing last year’s win total with a 3-5 record through eight games. The senior has range out to the three-point line and also is able to score around the basket. She also serves as one of the team’s leading rebounders and interior defenders.
