Chris Cox

A senior for the Hoxie High School wrestling team and transfer from Oakley put together a solid senior season at 220 pounds. Through Feb. 3, Cox carried a 26-4 mark, which included a first-place win at the Phillipsburg Panther Invitational. Cox went 4-0 in the tournament with three of the matches lasting a combined 2 minutes, 55 seconds. He also recorded a 2-0 decision to claim the title. Cox is a returning state medalists who was second at 220 pounds in Class 3-2-1A a year ago when he was with the Plainsmen.

Peyton Ostmeyer

A senior for the Natoma High School girls’ basketball team, Ostmeyer has made the most of the Tigers’ season so far, though Natoma is extremely shorthanded. Nearing 1,000 points for her career, Ostmeyer was averaging 11.3 points and 11.6 rebounds through 14 games. In the Tigers’ lone win, she put up 32 points and grabbed 17 rebounds against Rock Hills.

Jared Casey

Just a sophomore, Casey is a driving force for the Planville High School basketball team. The 6-footer averaged a little less than 15 points per game in the Cardinals’ 11-6 start. THat included scoring 28 of the team’s 48 in a narrow loss to Class 2A juggernaut Central Plains on Feb. 6. He scored 27 points twice in that same time span and had just three games where he failed to reach double digits, one of which he did not play. He also scored a season-best 32 points in a 41-point win against Stockton on Dec. 15.

Carly Heim

The Fort Hays State University junior by way of Hoxie High School was an offensive catalyst for the Tigers through the end of January and early February. Heim had a stretch of big outings — 12, 20, 18, 16 and 20 points as FHSU won six straight contests. The junior point guard was averaging 11.6 points per game through Feb. 3 with six regular season games remaining on FHSU’s schedule.
