The 5-foot-10 guard for the La Crosse Leopards girls’ basketball team was an integral part of the team’s 14-1 start to the season. West led the Leopards with an average of more than 12 points per game, while shooting just under 50 percent from the field. West averaged more than four steals, three rebounds and two assists per contest. West led La Crosse with 21 points in a victory against the Victoria Knights on Jan. 26. She was moved to the guard position from the post by first-year head coach Nicholl Weigel at the start of the season.
Beth Bohuslavsky
The Fort Hays State senior point guard set a new career high with 27 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field against Southwest Baptist on Feb. 6. Bohuslavksy reached double figures in scoring in five consecutive games For the No. 5 Tigers following her big game against the Bearcats. The senior leads the team in assists and minutes played and is third in scoring.
Lexie McDowell
McDowell, a 5-foot-10 sharpshooter signed to play basketball at Washburn University, scored a gamehigh 19 points in Hill City’s victory at Hoxie on Jan. 26, ending the Indians’ 107-game winning streak. Through 13 games, McDowell is averaged a teamhigh 15.6 points per game and shot 45 percent from beyond the arc. Mcdowell scored a career-high 32 points on Jan. 15 at Ellis.
Connor Ross
The Fort Hays State senior center fielder from Moreland, Okla., got off to a torrid start to the 2016 season against New Mexico Highlands in Las Vegas. Ross had multiple hits and at least one extra-base hit in each of the Tigers’ first three games of the season. He went 4 for 4 for seven RBI in the series finale on Feb. 8. He hit .571 with seven RBI in 14 at-bats after the Tigers’ first series of the spring.
