Peyton Havlas The senior for the Quinter High School girls’ basketball team, Havlas averaged 12.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game as the Bulldogs claimed the state championship by winning the Class 1A Division II title in Dodge City. The 5-foot-10 Havlas made the go-ahead and eventual game-winning two free throws as the Bulldogs defeated Hartford 46-44. The two free throws were part of her 10 points in the title game to go along with 13 rebounds for the double-double. 6KH ZDV RQH RI ÆYH VHQLRU VWDUWHUV IRU WKH Bulldogs this season.
Trever Medina Medina, a junior for the Sharon Springs-Wallace County High School boys’ basketball team, averaged 22.8 points per game this season as the Wildcats made it back to the Class 1A Division II state tournament. The 6-foot-1 junior also averaged 11.2 rebounds per contest to go along with 4.7 assists and 3.1 steals. Medina scored 63 points in the three games at Dodge City’s United Wireless Arena, leaving him just one point shy of Northern Valley junior Riley Sides, the top scorer in the state ÆQDOH WKLV VHDVRQ
Dayton Porsch Porsch again proved his dominance of the Class 3-2-1A wrestling rnaks with his state title at 145 pounds in late February at Hays’ Gross Memorial Coliseum. The title was his third 3-2-1A crown. Porsch pinned previously unbeaten Scott Resler of Wathena-Riverside in 3 minutes, 6 seconds. The title means Porsch (35-0) will have a chance next season to join an elite group of wrestlers with four Kansas state championships. The junior from Hoxie also hasn’t lost a match since his freshman year for the Indians.
Efe Osaghe Ranked No. 4 in NCAA Division II, Osaghae claimed All-America status after an eighth-place finish at nationals for the Fort Hays State University wrestling team at 149 pounds in earlier this month in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Osaghae advanced through the weight class to the second day of competition. Osaghae fell to Natrelle Demison of Adams State in the seventh-place match, falling via 3-2 decision.
