Taylor Regan Regan, a multi-sport standout for nearly four years for Otis-Bison girls took the Cougars this winter some place they’ve never been before. The team’s leader, Regan helped Otis-Bison to third place in the Class 1A Division II state tournament at United Wireless Arena in Dodge City. ,W ZDV WKH &RXJDUV½ ÆUVW WULS to state since 1990 and just their fourth overall. Regan scored nearly 23 points per game in helping Otis-Bison to a 19-4 record entering state. Then she scored 14, 14 and 8 in their three state games.
Brett Meyer Meyer, a sophomore for the Fort Hays 6WDWH 8QLYHUVLW\ PHQ½V WUDFN DQG ÆHOG WHDP earned All-American status earlier this month in the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala. 0H\HU ÆQLVKHG LQ ÆIWK SODFH in the 800-meter run in a time of 1 minute, 50.75 seconds, less than one second back of the national champion. Meyer is a Scott Community High School graduate. He was one of two All-Americans during the indoor season, joined by senior Dillando Allotey, who was seventh in the 200-meter dash.
Tiffany Dortland Dortland, a sophomore for Russell High School and transfer from Victoria, led the Bronco girls to the Class 3A sub-state championship game. Russell ÆQLVKHG LWV VHDVRQ ZLWK D record with Dortland leading the way at 17.1 points per game, 2.92 steals per outing, along with 2.4 assists. She was one of two players for WKH %URQFRV LQ GRXEOH ÆJXUHV as junior teammate Jaclyn Schulte averaged 16.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per night for the 3A substate runners-up.
Hayden Wiltfong Wiltfong, a sophomore for the Norton Community High School wrestling team, came up ELJ LQ WKH %OXHMD\V½ ÆIWK straight team championship in Class 3-2-1A. Wiltfong scored 15 team points through the weekend, and all three victories came via SLQ 7KDW LQFOXGHG WKH ÆIWK place match where Wiltfong pinned Sabetha’s Cauy Rokey to help Norton eventually push its lead out of reach of runner-up Hoisington. Wiltfong was one RI ÆYH 1RUWRQ PHGDOLVWV DV WKH %OXHMD\V won for the 10th time since 2004.
