Collin Kisner Kisner started his junior campaign with a trio of individual gold medals in the La Crosse Invitational on March 30 . The Knights’ sprinter beat out Plainville’s Sam Kaup in the PHWHU GDVK ÆQLVKLQJ in 11.11 seconds. Then he won the 200-meter dash by QHDUO\ VHFRQG ÆQLVKLQJ in 23.31. He added a third FURZQ LQ WKH ÆQLVKLQJ in 51.72. Kisner is a returning state medalist in the 100 and 200. At state at Cessna Stadium a year ago, he was seventh in the 100 and fourth in the 200.
Adell Riedel The Trego Community High School freshman EXUVW RQWR WKH VFHQH LQ KHU ÆUVW SUHS PHHW claiming four gold medals leading the Trego girls to a WLH IRU ÆUVW SODFH $SULO DW the Hoxie Invitational. Riedel won the 400 and 800, and anchored the Golden Eagles’ gold medals in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter relays. Riedel won the 400 in 1 minute, 2.96 seconds and the 800 in 2:33.93. Trego’s 1,600 relay came in at 4:24.48 and the 3,200 Relay crossed at the 10:58.62 mark.
Junior Hernandez Hernandez, an Ellis High School junior blasted a grand slam for the Railer baseball team as it started the season with a 30-0 shellacking against Ellinwood April 7. Hernandez’s seven-RBI effort was part of a 33-hit day for the Railers as Ellis ended the game after three innings. hernandez, also a soccer player in the fall at 7KRPDV 0RUH 3UHS 0DULDQ ÆQished 5-for-5 and scored four runs. In the second game, Ellis won 17-0 in three innings, and Hernandez walked twice and scored twice.
Alaina Gfeller A senior on the Russell High School track & field team, Gfeller started the season with a pair of gold medals in the Russell Invitational on April 6. Gfeller won the long jump with a jump of 16 feet, 6.75 inches. She also won the triple jump at 368.5. Gfeller is the reigning Class 3A long jump state champion, and was second in the triple jump a year ago for the Broncos in the state finale. Also a talented runner, Gfeller was second a year ago in Class 3A in the 400-meter.
