Chase Werth
The Thomas More Prep-Marian sophomore helped the Monarch baseball team to a 7-1 start to the season with a huge opening day. In a pair of contests against Scott City, Werth strung together three home runs and racked up seven RBI in seven at-bats in a sweep of the Beavers. Werth hit a pair of homers in the season opener and added a double. In Game 2, Werth’s homer was the start of home runs by three consecutive Monarchs in a 13-run first inning. Werth leads TMP in slugging (.880) and is second in OPS (1.294) with 11 RBI, which ranks third on the team. He mans the hot corner at third base for the Monarchs.
Alexcia Deutscher
The Ellis senior made her return to the track March 31 after missing last season with a knee injury suffered during basketball. She won the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 6.25 inches at the La Crosse Invitational. At the Ellis High School Invitational, she took home gold in the 400-meter relay, 100-meter dash and javelin throw. She also placed second in the long jump and is on pace to advance to state in all four events.
Keith Dryden

In his first meet, Dryden placed second in both the 100 and 200 at Junction City on April 1. He ran a 10.49 in the 100 and 22.23 in the 200. He also ran a 50.8 in the 400 meters. The senior is also a valuable member of Hays High’s 400 and 4x400 relay teams, both of which took third place in Junction City.
Paxton Duran
The Fort Hays State senior pitcher carried the Tigers to four key MIAA victories against Emporia State and Washburn on April 8 and 9, respectively. Duran shut out the Hornets in the opener and picked up her second win of the day in Game 2.
